The Stamp Review Crew: Valentine “Free for All” Edition

SRC-Valentine-FFA-banner

It’s time for another round of inspiration from The Stamp Review Crew. If this is your very first visit, we are a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators whose mission is to do a blog hop on the first and third Mondays of each month. Our hops are unique because each of us features the same stamp set.  But this week is different…we are having a Valentine “Free for All”, where we are featuring ANY current stamp set that is “Valentine-able”. You may have just left Stop #1: the talented Heidi Baks. Her work always blows me away.  I am Stop #2 on the hop.  I will be featuring two new projects today, one which I designed for my husband, Kim, and one which I created for my son, Brady.  Enjoy!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
Card #1: Super Quick and Easy

SRC
This finished card measures 4-1/4″ wide by 5-1/2″ long.

  • Hearts a-plenty! The new Happy Heart Textured Impressions Embossing Folder creates the perfect background for a Valentine, don’t you think?  This panel is 5 hearts x 6 hearts, and is matted on Cherry Cobbler cardstock.
  • Butterfly! A Cherry Cobbler butterfly has found a permanent home in the center of the embossed square. This beauty was made using the new Butterflies Thinlits dies.  A small black heart, courtesy of the Owl Builder Punch, adds a touch of romance, while a single rhinestone adds the perfect touch of bling.
  • Love! The Love sentiment, from Hello Life, provides the perfect sentiment, don’t you think? I love the flourishes at the beginning and the end of the word.

Project #2: Mini-treat Bag with Tag

IMG_1406

  • Mini Treat Bag!  What better hideaway for a gift card and a Valentine tag than a Mini Treat Bag created with the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits die! This one was made using Kraft cardstock and the Stacked Logs pattern from Adventure Abounds Paper Stack.  A Burlap Ribbon banner adds texture, while a Kraft heart accents the sentiment.
  • Blendabilities to the rescue! The Lumberjack image was inked in Tuxedo Black Memento, and stamped onto Whisper White cardstock.  Real Red ink was used to color his shirt, using the image provided in the set for that purpose.  Then it was Blendabilities to the rescue!  These alcohol markers are so much fun to use, and they provide streak-free coverage.

IMG_1413Isn’t this just the cutest Lumberjack ever? When my son, Brady, saw the Occasions Catalog, Wood You Be Mine was one of the first sets to catch his eye.  It only seemed appropriate to make his Valentine with it.  And the nice thing is this entire tag and bag will slide into an envelope for easy mailing.  I’ll just flatten the paper bow, and it will still be adorable!

You might have noticed I like using butterflies with the word “love”.  Here is a card from my archives featuring the Swallowtail image.  It could be easily updated with sentiments from the Hello Life set:SwallowtailI hope you enjoyed today’s projects. Of course, if you have questions about the cards I create or the techniques I use, I am only an email away.  Now scoot along and visit the rest of the hoppers.  Next up is #3 on the list, the talented and creative Adriana Benitez! If you get lost along the way, visit The Stamp Review Crew for a list of all hoppers. Until next time…

Sunshine for The Paper Players

IMG_1373-001It’s Sunday, and time to play with The Paper Players!  This week we have a Clean and Simple challenge for you, hosted by the incredibly talented LeAnne:  We want to see sentiments as the focus on your cards!  Designer Series Paper and other embellishments are welcome, but remember it IS a clean and simple challenge.  Layers and “doodads” should be kept to a mimum.  Now, that is quite a tall order for me, but I tried my best.  I hope you enjoy my attempt at Clean and Simple!

This finished card measures 4-1/4″ wide by 5-1/2″ long.

  • Rays of Sunshine! The rays were created in minutes using the template found in the Hooray It’s Your Day Project Kit.  I temporarily adhered the template to Whisper White cardstock, and sponged it with Crushed Curry ink.  How easy is that?  (Tip: Create your own temporary adhesive with the Two Way Glue Pen!  The bond is temporary if you let the glue dry first.)

IMG_1373-002

  • Focus on the sentiment! What better sentiment to go with the sun theme than “Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves”! This sentiment from Feel Goods was inked in Night of Navy and stamped directly onto the rays.

IMG_1372-004

  • Paper bow!  A Night of Navy paper bow, created with the fabulous Bow Builder Punch, adds just the right bit of pizzazz!

IMG_1372-003This card is earmarked for a very special blog follower and fellow Boxer lover, who certainly brought sunshine into my life, and into Muffy’s and Brody’s lives, too.  Like many of you, Gena often emails me to chat about the Boxers.  During the bitterly cold weather we had recently, I mentioned Brody had gained weight, and his winter coat no longer fit.  I also mentioned that Muffy’s coat was now too tight, since she has matured, but it fits Lexi fine.  Gena emailed me back, and innocently asked questions about their sizes.  Well, you can imagine my surprise when I got the mail Thursday.  There was a box from Gena.  And lo and behold, inside were two winter coats she had made…one for Brody and one for Muffy! I haven’t been able to take a picture of them on the kids yet, but I will in the near future.  Here they are:

IMG_0376IMG_0378Aren’t they awesome? Brody loves to wear “clothes” and he LOVES his new coat.  In fact, after I took it off and placed it on the island, he sat at whined until I put it on him again.  And Miss Muffin looks very chic in her pink with brown polka dots!  Thank you so much, Gena! You certainly brought sunshine into our lives!

I had fun with today’s card and today’s challenge.  It was the first time I had ever used a stencil to create a design, and it was so quick and easy.  I am probably one of the last stampers on earth to use a stencil.  Now I can’t wait to try it again using the Artisan Embellishment rose stencil.  How about you? Do you use stencils? Won’t you let me know in your comment today? Your comments are very important to me, and I do read each one.  Of course, if you ever have questions about the cards I create or the techniques I use, I am only an email away.  Until next time…
