Serene Crane Birthday Card

Beauty, harmony, grace and good fortune!  The crane has long been a symbol of each of these things in a variety of cultures. What better way to wish someone a happy birthday than with a serene crane birthday card! It’s time to play at Festive Friday – Home of the Inspo List!

serence crane birthday card
For this week’s challenge, we are inspired by International Wetland Day, which is celebrated on February 2nd. Remember, at Festive Friday you do not need to actually celebrate or make a card for the occasion featured. Your goal is to simply use three or more items from the inspiration list on your project. I used birds, florals, green and birthday to create my card. I can’t wait to see what YOU create!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips

A beautiful designer paper is the starting point for this serene crane birthday card. In fact, other than the crane and the sentiment, the paper does the work for today’s card.  Can you believe that these gorgeous flowers were snipped from paper? A few die cut stems are all that is needed to zhuzh it up!  The crane  perches atop the sentiment, while a sprinkling of rhinestones adds a bit of sparkle.

Nueve’s Canine Corner

It’s me, Nueve!  I gots something new to show you. My Mom bought me a special new necklace. She got it for me after her friend, Michelle, had her dog stoled.  Jasper was in his crate in Michelle’s van being a good boy. He was at a motel in Minneapolis and was waiting to go to a dog show.  A bad man stoled the van with Jasper in it. It was really cold in Minneapolis, and everyone prayed they would find Jasper before he got too cold and fell asleep forever.  Jasper was stoled on Saturday, and they found the van with Jasper in it on Monday night.  Jasper was still in his crate, and was very, very cold and hungry. I know he would have liked some of my “Good Boy Treats”.  The bad man said he didn’t know Jasper was in the van.   I know good boys don’t bite, but that bad man should be bited.  (Oh, wait…Sixx is ‘rupting me!…It is too stoled, Sixx! That’s how you make people words mean something already happened. You put a “d” on the end.   Stoled. Bited. Grrr…she thinks she knows everything!)

Nueve's' Corner

Anyway, Mom got worried about what would happen if I got losted when we go to visit my human brother this year.  I would be far away from my real home, and I wouldn’t know all of the strange houses and stuff. So, my dad got on the ‘puter and found some special dog necklaces that have something called GPS. I don’t know what GPS is, but Mom said because it has it, the necklace gives off free quincies, or something like that.  I just know if the quincies are free, they must be good. The necklaces came in different colors, but I wanted pink.  Sixx made fun of me.  She said boy dogs don’t wear pink. But, I like pink.  I wear Great Aunt Muffy’s necklace.  It’s pink, and I LOVE it ’cause it still smells like her and has cupcakes on it.  But, her necklace is starting to get too tight. Mom said I am getting to be a big boy now.  That’s because I eat a lot of “Good Boy Treats”!

serene crane birthday card

It has been really, really cold here.  I wanted to go outside, but that bad dog, Frost, must be out there somewhere. Mom said we couldn’t out because we might get Frost bited.  She says that all the time when it gets really cold.  Why don’t Frost’s owners keep him on a leash so he can’t bite us?  I even gave Mom my best “Puppy Dog Eyes” and tilted my head a little so I looked really cute, but she still wouldn’t let us go out and play.

So we just decided to take a nap.

I gotta go now and help Mom.  We are going to make homemade puppy treats ’cause I’m Good Boy, Nueve!

See the Good

A sparkling snow, majestic mountains, a beautiful deer, and an uplifting sentiment!  On days when it seems as if everything is going wrong, it’s time to see the good.  It’s Sunday, and time to play with The Paper Players!

See the good
This week, sweet Claire is the host of our monthly Clean and Simple challenge.  The theme she selected for us is:  Winter Animals .   Don’t you love it?  When I think of winter animals, I often think of deer.  So I selected this sweet doe from the new Grassy Grove stamp set to be my focal point. I can’t wait to see what animal YOU feature on your card.   But before you run off to grab those stamps, papers and inks,  remember that by CLEAN AND SIMPLE, we mean cards that have:

  • minimal layers
  • few to no embellishments
  • lots of clean white space (minimal patterns)

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips

I love the Grassy Grove bundle from the January – June Mini Catalog, especially the deer.  However, as the name would indicate, the rest of the Grassy Grove stamp set and coordinating dies, aren’t really suited for a winter animal theme.  Luckily,  the Mountain Air set came to the rescue.  This is a reversible set. I first inked the “flat” side of the mountains with Smoky Slate, stamped it off once, and then stamped onto the panel. After cleaning the stamp, I flipped it over to the “detailed” side, inked it with Smoky Slate again, and stamped it below the first image. Next, I added the tree line, inked in Evening Evergreen. Because we are dealing with winter animals, I pulled out a piece of sparkly “snow” I found in my “Box of Misfit Card Parts”, and added it.  I LOVE it when I find something usable among the “castoffs”.  However, I think the new Mother of Pearl paper would make amazing snow!  Because my sweet doe needed a little something,  I added an evergreen die cut.   And what about this wonderful sentiment?  See the good! What a positive outlook to have!

Nueve’s Canine Corner

It’s me, Nueve! I’m so sad.  My stubby tail isn’t wagging because our sun shiny days are gone.  We got snow again.  Mom said it was between 6 and 7 inches.  I’m not sure what an inch is, but when I had to go outside to potty,  it came up past my knees. Mom made Dad go outside and scoop away snow so Great Uncle Brody wouldn’t have to walk in it.  He gets special ‘rivileges  cause he is old. Now Sixxy and I will have to wait to go on walks until people get the snow taken off the walking places.  Mom doesn’t like to take us out for walks right after it has snowed.  She’s afraid she’ll fall on the slick places.  Plus, we won’t get to watch the neighbor, either.  Sixxy and I like to watch him make wood sticks for his fire window.  Sometimes the neighbor woman rolls their cooker thing out into the driveway and makes meat.  We LOVE to smell the meat!  She never shares, even when we ask nicely. I don’t think she likes furry kids.

See the Good
Mom said that we kids need to see the good in the snowy days, just like her card says.  Even though we couldn’t get out to walk, Mom snuggled with all of us in front of the fire window.  Then she did Obedience School.  We did sits and downs. Great Uncle Brody can’t hear very good, but Mom just moves her hand, and he knows what to do.

See the good

It was really fun because we got treats.  I think that is more like eating the good, than seeing the good. But I guess I got to see the yummy treat before I ate it.  Then I got to play my favorite game,  Search and Rescue.  Dad holds me, while Mom hides.  Once she is in her hidey place,  Dad says, “Where’s Mom?” and I go find her.  I got to play three times.  Mom was seeing the good, which was me,  because each time I found her, she said, “Good boy, Nueve!”  By then, I was really tired, and needed to nap.

Until next time, see the good…

Tropical Thank You

With the cold temps we have been experiencing these past few days here in Southeast Iowa, the Boxers have not wanted to venture out for their daily walks.  I can’t say I blame them, and I am happy for their good sense.  While they lazed in front of the fireplace, I played with my new stamps from the January – June Mini Catalog.  I mentally escaped the bitter temps by creating a tropical thank you card! It’s Sunday, and time to play with The Paper Players!

tropical thank you
This week, the amazing Anne Marie has a wonderful color challenge for us:

tropical thank youIsn’t this a yummy trio of colors? I used black as my neutral.  I can’t wait to see what colors you use!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips

This was such a fun card to create. The new Artfully Layered bundle is filled with bold images and die cuts, just perfect, as the name would imply, for layering! And if you look closely, you can get a peek at a new embossing folder, Splatters. It forms the backdrop for my collage of foliage.  I can already tell, both the bundle and the embossing folder are going to be favorites of mine.

Tropical Thank You

This is an easy card to make, but it does take time because of the layers, embossing and die cutting.  But, I think you will be pleased with your results.  To download the free step-by-step tutorial for today’s  Tropical Thank You card, which includes all the paper measurements and all of the current products used, please click on the button below. Hi, everyone! It’s me, Nueve! It’s been really cold here, and Mom doesn’t let us stay outside very long. She’s afraid our ears and toes will get Frost bitten. I don’t know who Frost is, but he is a bad boy.  Good boys like me don’t bite!
Tropical Thank You card

When we come back inside, we all rush to get a place in front of the fire. Sixx  and Uncle Jack always get the bestest spot in front of the fire window.  They always get to lay wherever they want! Grrr!

tropical thank you

Great Uncle Brody likes the special bed.  It’s up on little legs.  He’s old, and it makes his bones feel better.  I like to lay on it, too.  Sometimes I crawl up on it with him. He doesn’t mind.
tropical thank you

As for me,  I get to curl up on one of the round beds.  But at night, I curl up right beside my Mom in the Big Bed. She says I’m the bestest  snuggler of them all.  That’s because it’s part of my job of being a Good Boy!  I hope you have a grrrrrreat week with lots of treats!
