Dove of Peace for The Paper Players

IMG_2783-001 with WMJust like every house should be built upon a strong foundation, every card should begin with a great sketch…and that is exactly what Joanne has for us in this week’s The Paper Players challenge!  I decided to get a start on my holiday cards, so I used the new Dove of Peace stamp set.  Enjoy!

pp259The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
This finished card measures 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ when folded.

  • Black isn’t just for Halloween!  Shimmery Black Glimmer paper paired with gold foil makes an elegant and sophisticated color combination. Isn’t the Black and Gold striped paper fabulous? It’s from the Winter Wonderland Specialty Designer Series Paper collection.

IMG_2759

  • White on gold! The Dove was embossed with white on Gold Foil paper.

IMG_2783-002Because I wanted to use the Dove without the sentiment, I simply cut it off, rather than mask it.  I had an extra wooden block handy, so I will mount the sentiment onto it before I use it.

Dissected Dove

  • Foiled again! I love the look of a small Gold Metallic Doily adhered over the Gold Foil circle.  A Winter Wonderland embellishment in the center is the perfect touch.

IMG_2782This is one of those cards which just doesn’t photograph well.  Of course, I shot a few pictures using my light tent, but I really wasn’t satisfied.  So I tried the mantel…

IMG_2791and was happy with the how the Black Glimmer Paper sparkled.  I also shot one outside on top of the mailbox.

IMG_2796-001I think this shot shows off the glimmer paper well, too.  At any rate, I can tell you it is VERY pretty in person, as one of my customers will find out…I will be sending it out this winter.  But I do have to share this funny with you:  I always have my husband, Kim, critique my card when I am finished.  In typical husband fashion, Kim said it was very pretty, but he wondered why I used the word “peach”.  It took him a minute or two until it dawned on him it said “peace”.  Needless to say, we both got a giggle out of it.

Your Recipe for Fun

Stamp Set:  Dove of Peace; Inks: VersaMark; Paper: Gold Foil, Black Glimmer,  Winter Wonderland Specialty Designer Series Paper, Metallic Doilies; Tools:  Big Shot,  Circles Collection Thinlits, Christmas Greetings Thinlits, Heat Tool, White Stampin’ Emboss Powder; Embellishments:  Winter Wonderland

We are still waiting on the results of Brody’s biopsy.  It’s the waiting which is so stressful.   Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts. As soon as we know anything, I will let you know.  As for Jack and Kia, they will be heading out next Thursday for the Cedar Valley Boxer Club Specialty show in Amana, Iowa.  They are still too young to show, but they are going to hang out with the big dogs, socialize, and be passed around to spend time with different people.  In the meantime, Jack is catching up on his beauty sleep.

FullSizeRenderI hope you enjoyed your visit today.  What did you think of today’s card?  Won’t you let me know in your comment? Your comments are important to me, and I do read each and every one.  Of course, if you have any questions about today’s card, don’t hesitate to email me! Until next time…

She Sells Sea Shells for The Paper Players and Brody News

IMG_2752It’s time to play with The Paper Players! This week the lovely LeAnne has a Clean and Simple Challenge for us…The Beach!  Now I am a dyed-in-the-wool Stampin’ Up! stamper, and I rarely ever use a non-Stampin’ Up! stamp.  But today I pulled out a never-used set by Our Craft Lounge called Treasured Friend.  It is a set I was given when I was designing for Splitcoaststampers Dirty Dozen back in 2010. I thought it was perfect for this challenge!

pp258The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
This finished card measures 4-1/4″ wide by 5-1/2″ long.

  • Faux water coloring! Water coloring with Blender Pens and inks is quick and easy. I simply touch the tip of a Blender Pen to the ink pad itself, and color the image.  Since it’s easier to add color than to remove it, I always test the color on scratch paper to make certain it is not too dark.

IMG_2752-001

  • Glitteriffic!  The Sea Shell and Sea Horse from By the Tide were water-colored and then glittered.  The new Fine Tip Glue Pen, available September 1st in the new Holiday Catalog, makes it a cinch to add glue…and glitter…exactly where you want it.  Dazzling Diamonds is my glitter of choice for adding a touch of bling.

IMG_2752-002

  • Banner!  The sentiment was stamped onto a piece of Very Vanilla card stock.  One end was punched into a “V”,  courtesy of the Hexagon Punch.  The other end was curled around a small, round file.  If you don’t have small file, a wooden skewer works fine, too!

Here is your recipe for fun!

Stamp Sets: By the Tide, Treasured Friends (Our Craft Lounge, retired); Inks:  Pink Pirouette, Marina Mist, Island Indigo, Crumb Cake, Rose Red, Always Artichoke, Elegant Eggplant, Cajun Craze, Chocolate Chip, Blushing Bride; Tools:  Big Shot, Ovals Collection Framelits, Decorative Dots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Blender Pens, Fine Tip Glue Pen, Hexagon Punch; Embellishments:  Sahara Sand Lace Ribbon, Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter, Metal Rimmed Pearls

Brody

It is with sadness I have to report that Brody had a hemangiosarcoma removed from his side on Friday.  Hemangiosarcoma is an aggressive, malignant tumor which almost always carries a poor prognosis.  The exception to this is a hemangiosarcoma which  originates in the skin and has not yet metastasized to the internal organs. Brody’s did indeed originate in the skin, and the surgeon went quite deep and wide in an attempt to get it all, as you can see in this photo.

Brody We will know if she was successful when we get the results of the biopsy next week.  Of course, the entire family has been on an emotional roller coaster.  We can only hope and pray we caught it early enough…

I hope you enjoyed today’s card.  Even though I feel like a traitor to Stampin’ Up!, it was a perfect image for the challenge, don’t you agree? Of course, if you have any questions about the cards I create, or the techniques I use, I am only an email away.  Until next time…
