The Stamp Review Crew: Merry Café Edition

Stamp Review Crew Banner

It’s time for another round of inspiration from The Stamp Review Crew.  If this is your very first visit to one of our hops, we are a group of international Stampin’ Up! demonstrators whose mission is to do a blog hop on the first and third Mondays of each month. Our hops are unique because each of us features the same stamp set used in a variety of ways. This week we are featuring the Merry Café stamp set. I am #12 on the hop. You may have just left Stop #11, the talented Cindy Elam! After visiting me, you will continue to Stop #13, Natalie Lapakko. Enjoy today’s hop!

Merry Café – Joy Fold Card

The Stamp Review Crew Merry Café

When I found out we were using the Merry Café stamp set for this hop, I wanted to create a card in which I could tuck a little  cash or a check.  I needed something elegant, and so for the task at hand, I created a Joy Fold card using Year of Cheer Designer Series Paper and Champagne Foil.  To create the fold, I used this Splitcoast tutorial.  It’s my “go-to” pattern whenever I make Joy Fold cards.

The Stamp Review Crew Merry Café

I embossed the Champagne Foil using the Winter Wonder Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, and trimmed the front edge.  A Velcro dot holds the panel closed.

The Stamp Review Crew Merry Café

Rhinestones add a touch of sparkle to the inside front panel.

The Stamp Review Crew Merry Café

The top of the cup and edge on the right are not adhered.  A little moolah or a folded check snuggles in nicely.  Abe looks quite cozy, don’t you agree?

I hope you enjoyed today’s card made with the Merry Café set.  Won’t you let me know in your  comment today?  Of course, if you ever have a question about the cards I create or the techniques I use, I am only an email away.  Now hop along to Stop #13, the incredible Natalie Lapakko, to see what she has in store for you!  If you get lost along the way, you can find a list of all the hoppers at The Stamp Review Crew.

On the CASE: A CASE of Gourd Goodness

Gourd Goodness

Welcome to this week’s On the CASE with Ann & Nicole, an endeavor undertaken with my friend and stamping buddy, Nicole Watt, of Pixel Maven’s Retreat. In “case” this is your first On the CASE visit, here is the scoop: Twice a month, on the first and third Wednesdays, we will be CASE-ing a card from one of Stampin’ Up!’s current catalogs. CASE means to Copy and Share with Everyone, and that is exactly what we will be doing. We hope you enjoy the cards we CASE and the free step-by-step tutorials! Let’s get on to today’s CASE!

Gourd Goodness

Fall is my favorite time of the year! I look forward to the beautiful hues of autumn, and the turning of the leaves.  I also adore a card filled with texture and detail.  SO – it is no wonder I fell in love with this Gourd Goodness  card.

Gourd Goodness

This was my first time playing with embossing paste, and I was worried.  After all, I am the woman who cannot frost a cake and have it look edible.  But luckily, the card was very forgiving, and I LOVE the textural detail the paste imparts.  I can’t wait to play with it again. Enjoy my Gourd Goodness CASE!

Colors of the Day
Stamps and Papers and Inks…Oh, My!

Stamps: Gourd Goodness
Paper: Early Espresso Cardstock or any brown of your choice (4-1/4″ x 11″, 3/8″ x 2-7/8″), Crumb Cake Cardstock (3-7/8″ x 5-1/8″, scraps), Whisper White Thick Cardstock for making the masks (3 pieces at 2-1/2″ x 2-1/2″), Whisper White Cardstock (5 pieces at 2″ x 3″, 2″ x 2″)
Inks:  Crushed Curry, Soft Suede, Tangerine Tango
Other:  1-1/2″ Circle Punch, Paper Snips, Big Shot, Seasonal Layers Thinlits, Embossing Paste,  Palette Knives, Very Vanilla 1/2″ Lace Trim, Gold Mini Sequin Trim, Mini Glue Dots, Multipurpose Liquid Glue

“On the CASE” Notes
Your Step-by-Step Guide

1. Score the Early Espresso cardstock at 5-1/2″ to form the card base.
2.  Create three masks using Whisper White Thick cardstock and the intricate Leaf thinlit from the Seasonal Layers detailed dies set.

Gourd Goodness Masks

Coat the back with Multipurpose Liquid Glue. Allow the glue to dry to form a repositionable bond.
3. Position the masks on the Crumb Cake layer.

Gourd Goodness

Apply Embossing Paste over the masks using a Palette Knife, spreading it like you are buttering a piece of toast.  (Be sure to clean the knife immediately after using.)

Gourd Goodness

Carefully remove the paper masks. Set aside to dry.

4.  Create three Crushed Curry leaves. Stamp off once for the bottom layer, and use full strength for the detailed over-stamp.  Repeat with Tangerine Tango ink, creating 2 leaves. Snip out all five leaves with Paper Snips.

5.  Using the Seasonal Layers thinlits, cut 2 smaller leaves from Crumb Cake.

Gourd Goodness6. Create a banner from Early Espresso cardstock. Snip a “V” into both ends. Adhere the banner.  Add the lace, gathering it up on one side.  Use Mini-Glue Dots to hold the ruching, or gathers, in place.  Add the Gold Mini Sequins. Note:  I did not adhere the ends of the banner, in order to insert leaves under them.

Gourd Goodness7. Ink the sentiment in Soft Suede, and stamp onto Whisper White cardstock.  Punch out with the 1-1/2″ Circle Punch.

8. Assemble the card as shown.  Pop the sentiment and selected leaves up on Stampin’ Dimensionals.

How Hard Was It to Crack this CASE

If you love lots of texture and dimension, today’s card is for you.  The techniques involved are not difficult, but there is a learning curve involved with the Embossing Paste.  It dries quickly, so pull out what you need to use on your palette knife, and close your container.  Of course, two-step stamping is always fun…and adds so much dimension. Just remember to stamp off the base stamp.  Difficulty Level:  3-1/2 out of 5 due to the Embossing Paste, fussy cutting, and ruching the lace
