Happy Spring PP727

What better way to wish someone “Happy Spring” than with a bouquet of spring flowers! It’s Sunday and time to play with The Paper Players!

This week, sweet Claire is hosting our Theme Challenge. What a timely theme she has for us: Spring Flowers. It won’t be long until the flowers of the season will greeting us with their lovely blooms. My card today is super easy to make. I can’t what to see what YOU create!

Today’s card is easy-peasy, and can be made in a very short amount of time. You may be wondering “how”. The answer lies in the paper. The gorgeous die cut image which serves as the focal point is part of the Wildflower Birthday designer series paper collection. It consists of 12 sheets of patterned paper: 2 each of 5 double-sided designs, 2 each of 1 single-sided sheet of die cuts. In fact, the sweet Pretty in Pink gingham paper is from the same paper pack. I used the Perennial Postage dies to create the perfect setting for the flowers. The sentiment is from the Storybook Friends stamp set. Isn’t it a lovely script? I punched it out using an old Stampin’ Up! oval punch from back in the day and adhered it onto a Blueberry Bushel oval mat, which I hand-cut. The “trellis” is from the Celebrate Love Mix & Match Ephemora Pack. A trio of Regal Foiled Dots add the perfect bling. See how easy it was? The most difficult part was hand-cutting the oval mat for the sentiment.

Hey, Mom’s Stampin’ Friends! It’s me, Nueve. I know it has been a long time since I have talked with you. Sadly, I have some not so good news. Just when I was all ready to do ‘bedience stuff with my mom, I hurt my leg really bad. We were playing catch with my sloth ball in the backyard, and I must have landed wrong after I jumped up really high for it. I came back limping. Mom was really worried. When I was still limping the next morning, Mom took me to see one of my favorite friends, Doc Rita. Everytime I see her, she tells me I am handsome and she gives me treats. I like her. This time she took me back to a room where they take special pictures. She said I partially tore my Cranial Caudaul Ligament. It’s the same thing as an ACL in people. I’m not sure what either of them are, but Doc Rita, my mom and my dad were really worried. It made me so sad.

It made me even sadder when I found out I can’t run or play for 12 weeks. I’m not sure how long 12 weeks is, but I think it is very close to forever. Mom takes me outside on the leash, but only to potty. I have to takes meds and be really good. I can’t even go upstairs to the Big Bed, so Mom and I are sleeping downstairs in front of the fire box.

Mom is trying to keep my brain active so I don’t get bored and depressed. We play games, like “Which Cup Has the Treat?” and a really fun puzzle game she bought me. If I’m not better after all this rest, I have to have surgery. I don’t want that. So I am trying to be good.

I am going to work hard to get better so I don’t need surgery. I have to get better so I can get back to work. After all, I am a Working Dog. It’s what I do. I am Good Boy Nueve!

Terrific Toadstools PP726

I love sending “Day Brighteners”. These are cards whose sole purpose is to lift the spirits, bring on a smile, and just make a person feel happy. I think this pink “Terrific Toadstools” card will do the trick. I can’t wait to drop it in the mail. It’s Sunday…and you know what that means: It’s time to play with The Paper Players.

This week, the stupendous and super-talented Stef is hosting our monthly sketch challenge. I don’t think you will find a sketch more versatile than this. While I opted to highlight toadstools of the magical kind, I can’t wait to see what YOU create!

The delightful Toadstool Garden designer series paper (a Sale-A-Bration product) was my jumping off point for today’s card. I pulled the colors for the toadstools from the pattern, using Melon Mambo and Peach Pie for the caps and Smoky Slate and Early Espresso for the stipes – the technical term for the stalk. (Yep, old science teachers never die!) Bubble Bath cardstock was used to create the background circle, complete with Granny Apple Green grass. Most of the grass was covered over by the sentiment, which was selectively inked in Early Espresso and Melon Mambo. I really wanted the word “Magical” to pop. Five Purple Adhesive Backed Sequins , another Sale-A-Bration freebie, add amazing sparkle.

Clean and Simple Masculine Card PP725

Do you find it hard to find just the right masculine card? Maybe this clean and simple masculine card is just what you need! It’s Sunday and time to play with The Paper Players.

This week it is the talented Jan’s turn to host our Clean and Simple challenge. She has selected the theme of “Masculine” for us. I used a fun coyote image to design a card that I felt was versatile enough for a male of any age, whether they are the “younger men” in our lives, like grandsons, or “not-as-young” men, such as my husband. (Yep, this was his Valentine card this year.) I can’t wait to see what YOU create! But remember, this is a CLEAN and SIMPLE challenge.  Before you run off to gather your stamps, papers, and inks, keep in mind that when The Paper Players use the term “clean and simple”, we mean cards that:

Have minimal layers and embellishments
Have plenty of open space
Are simple and uncluttered

Masculine cards don’t have to be boring. They can be anything you want them to be. Feel free to break away from the stereotypes. Rich colors, like the Night of Navy featured on today’s card, is always a sure bet. However, feel free to have a little fun. What says fun better than Granny Apple Green grass and a Boho Blue sky! Instead of brown, which I felt could be a little drab for the vibe I was going for, my coyote is rather dapper in Smoky Slate, plucking his Pecan Pie banjo. And for an unexpected “pop” of color, I added a Berry Burst bandana.

Of course, I love using texture on all of my cards. The Timber 3D embossing folder is usually my “go to” embossing folder for masculine cards. Texture is also added by heat embossing the sentiment. In keeping with the Clean and Simple requirements, no embellishments were added. The result is a flat card which is “post office friendly”.
