One Layout with Four Looks

Patti MacLeith, Papercrafts by Patti, is one of my dear stamping friends.  When she recently needed a few extra pieces from the January Paper Pumpkin kit to create a project on which she was working, I was more than happy to help her out. In return, she sent me one of her fabulous card creations.  It was clean and lovely – a classic layout for sure! Upon seeing this card, I was struck with the idea of using that layout to create several cards.  I asked Patti’s permission to CASE her layout and got to work. I hope you enjoy today’s feature:  One Layout with Four Looks.

Look #1:  Sure Do Love You

One layout four looks

For this card, the sentiment from the Sure Do Love You stamp set was heat embossed in white onto Berry Burst card stock. Gold Foil adds a touch of metallic luster, while a beautiful Berry Burst bow adds a touch of texture.  Of course, the Hearts paper, one of the designer paper patterns from the Painted with Love collection, is perfect for a Valentine’s Day card.

Look #2:  A Magical Day

One Layout four looks

Did you know the unicorn is the national animal of Scotland?  It must be in my Scottish DNA to adore them, because they have always been my favorite mythological animal. These whimsical unicorns, from the Myths & Magic Specialty Designer Series Paper collection, are sure to brighten the recipient’s day! This card could be used for birthdays for both young and old, or as a simple friendship card.  The Shimmering Basic Gray Ribbon is available as a Sale-A-Bration item, and is FREE with a $50 order. The sentiment receives special treatment, having been stamped twice, once in Berry Burst and once in Tranquil Tide.  “You Are” was snipped from Tranquil Tide, and popped onto the Berry Burst sentiment.  If you are a fan of the Magical Day stamp set, check out this card.

One Layout with Four Looks
Look #3:  Petal Palette

One Layout Four Looks

Who doesn’t love a classic black and white card? A bit of bling and a Whisper White Organza bow set off this pattern, which is actually from the Petal Passions Memories & More Card Pack. What a wonderful sentiment to let someone know just exactly what they mean to you!  The patterned card was used just as it came from the package.  It was matted onto a piece of Basic Black card stock, leaving a 1/8″ margin on all four sides. If you are a fan of Petal Palette, like I am, check out this card which showcases the framelits, and this cutie which also uses the Petal Passions Memories & More Card Pack. Tutorials are included for both of these cards.

Look #4: Truly Tailored

One Layout Four Looks

The sky is the limit when pairing the Truly Tailored stamp set with True Gentleman Designer Series Paper. There are so many cute, quirky patterns, as well as fabulous traditional masculine ones in this collection.  Of course, this layout is perfect for showcasing any pattern of paper.  The sentiment was inked with Stampin’ Write Markers in order to highlight the various sections.  Night of Navy Corduroy Ribbon adds texture.

So there you have it! One layout with four looks! It’s a perfect one for showcasing sentiments and paper.  If you would like to create your own, the dimensions are easy:

  • 2-3/4″ wide x 4″ high – Designer Series Paper
  • 3″ wide x 4-1/4″ high – Mat
  • 4-1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5-1/2″  –  Card Base

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips

Today’s card is a feminine – and versatile – one for sure! By changing out the sentiment, (I used the “Thank You” sentiment from another Sale-A-Bration set, Heartfelt Blooms), this card could be used for a birthday card, wedding card, anniversary card, thinking of you, and more.

Although it has a clean and simple layout, this card sports extra-special details which give it a “WOW” factor, including pearls and a bow created from Whisper White 1/4″ Organza Ribbon.

Of course, the focal point of this card is the beautiful bouquet of lavender.  The image was stamped three times, and water colored using Blender Pens and the following inks:  Old Olive, Powder Pink, Sweet Sugarplum.  They were fussy cut with paper snips and arranged onto an oval created from the Stitched Shapes Framelits.

Barn Door Slider Card

Barn Door Slider CardWhen I saw the Barn Door card in person at OnStage Live this fall, I knew I had to have the bundle.  I have never been a fan of slider cards, but this one was different.  It was a barn door! How could this old farm girl possibly resist a barn door slider card! The concept was just too cute.  I am always in need of friendship cards, so  I decided to try my hand at creating my own Barn Door Slider Card.  Enjoy!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips

The first thing I did before I created today’s card was to watch this video from Stampin’ Up! It is chock full of helpful hints!

After creating the slots, I used the Pinewood Planks Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder to simulate the look of barn wood.  The track, brackets and handle were die cut from Basic Gray cardstock, and the door was stamped in Basic Gray Archival Ink.

Barn Door Slider Card

The wreath was stamped three times:  Once in Old Olive on Old Olive cardstock, and twice in Berry Burst on Whisper White cardstock.  I then die cut the Old Olive wreath, the three flowers as a group, and one large flower.  I accented the wreath with Whisper White Baker’s Twine and a single pearl.

Barn Door Slider Card

The sentiment, from the Charming Cafe stamp set, was stamped in Basic Gray.  Isn’t this such a wonderful sentiment? Three Berry Burst Glitter Enamel Dots were used to accent it.  Because of their flat shape, they do not hamper the sliding of the door.

Barn Door Slider Card

Behind the door, a flower from the Graceful Garden set was colored using Blender Pens and Berry Burst ink for the petals,  and Old Olive Stampin’ Blends for the leaves. Clear Epoxy raindrops drip from the petals and leaves.  In retrospect, I wish I would have colored the rose yellow to represent friendship.  However,  Berry Burst is such a yummy color.  It is so hard for me to resist using it!

Barn Door Slider Card

I really love the way this card looks when the door is closed over the flower and the sentiment is exposed.  And I love the surprise when the door is slid open!

Speaking of surprises when the door is open, I have to share with you a tale from my youth.   One of our barns at home on the farm had a sliding door.  Now this was back in the day when curly perms were all the rage.  My adorable mother had a curly perm which was poofed up to the high heavens.  I’ll never get the day when she slid the door open and a mouse dropped from the track right into her poofy hair.   As she marched into the barn, she retrieved the wee beastie from her tresses, let it go, and continued on her merry way,  as if it happened every day!  As for me – from that day forward, I was always very, very careful when I entered that barn…
