“Once upon a midnight dreary, as I pondered weak and weary”. So begins Edgar Allan Poe’s classic poem, The Raven. I remember studying this poem as a part of a poetry class I took in college. While the specifics of our classroom discussion have taken up residence in some “cobwebby” corner of my brain, I will never forget the haunting line, “Quoth the Raven Nevermore”. It’s Sunday and time to play with The Paper Players.

This week the amazing Joanne has a fabulous sketch for us, one which I absolutely love. I originally planned to create a feminine and flowery card, but as you can see, I decided to pay homage to Poe’s classic poem of lost love. I can’t wait to see what YOU create using Joanne’s very versatile sketch. But before you head off to gather your stamps, papers and inks, please stop by and leave my incredible Design Teammates, who work so hard to inspire you weekly, some “Comment Love”. It brightens our day!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
A full moon, a mysterious raven, and an eerie sentiment set the mood for today’s card. When I first saw the moon pattern from the Frightfully Fun designer series paper, creative ideas began to flow. What a perfect backdrop for this raven image from the Raven’s Tale stamp set. Joanne’s sketch was ideal for pulling it all together. The Textured Tree Ring 3D embossing folder adds lovely texture in keeping with the theme. Of course, every card needs a bit of bling. While Poe described his raven as having “fiery eyes”, a rhinestone seemed more appropriate for my stately bird. If you would like to create your own Quoth the Raven “Nevermore” card, the Textured Tree Ring embossing folder, Frightfully Fun designer series paper, and the Raven’s Tale stamp set are part of the July Online Exclusives, available July 1st.

Nueve’s Notes
Hi, everyone! It’s me, Nueve. I’ve been having a busy summer going to school and practicing tricks and oh-beedience. When we have homework, Mom makes it fun. She lets us all work together for the easy things, like sitting. Mom had been standing between Sixxy and Uncle Q, but she told us to stay and walked away so she could take our picture. Sixxy was disrespectful, ’cause she stuck out her tongue.

Later, Sixxy decided she didn’t want to work anymore. She would rather play ball and have fun instead. She’s not a very good working dog.

Mom just ignored her while she laid down with her ball and tried to look cute and pretty. Me and Uncle Q continued our lesson. We were supposed to lie down, but Uncle Q was worried that Sixxy was going to be having fun, so he didn’t do what he was supposed to. But I did, ’cause I am the bestest boy.

After all the work we did, I was exhausted. Mom let me bring one of my ‘corns outside so I could cuddle with it.

Mom is worried and scared ’cause I have to have sleepy gas and surgery tomorrow to remove three Boxer bumps. I let her know I will be fine, ’cause Dr. Rita and her helper, Dr. Brook, will not let anything happen to me. Plus, I know all of my friends will be sending up doggy prayers for me. Will you send up one, too? Making my mom feel better when she is afraid is just part of my job. I am a working dog. I am Good Boy Nueve.

I love that you’re embracing Halloween already! Somehow I skip over that and go right to Christmas! But I am sure I’ll get some cards in there soon! What a great spooky card, too! Love it! And I’ll definitely be sending out some doggy prayers for mom and pup! Let us know how it goes!
Great and scary card today. Thanks for the Nueve news and pictures. Wishing him and you well. Indeed, I love him.
Fun card! Loved Nueve’s story. Hugs and prayers for all involved with the surgery. Bernie was neutered a couple months ago. He has a basset hound girl friend that is a little younger and planning play dates as her house has a fenced in backyard. He also has a basset hound buddy he plays with in their back yard. They live across the street from the big windmill so we can walk over easily. But, he has his own job as the unofficial “Ambassetor” for Pella. His job is to make people smile while visiting Pella. Young and old line up to pet him! Anyway, let us know how he does.
I couldn’t wait to comment on your card this week, Ann! I love it!! I’m always ready for a spooky Halloween card and I love how you combined that huge raven with the scene from the DSP. I have all the new Halloween stamps and papers so I will have to CASE your card for sure : ) Best of luck to Nueve as he gets de-bumped, I’m sure he’ll be on the road to recovery in no time but I totally understand being nervous about it. Maybe you should hug one of his ‘corns while he’s having the procedure done, he would probably agree that that would help make you calmer!
Great card! Sending lots of love and prayers for Nueve, you, and Kim. Nueve is in amazing hands and in Gods. He will make you proud and come out of this with flying colors. He knows how much everyone loves him. 💕💕🫂🫂❤️
That is fantastic!! We have a lot of ravens in our home (art, not alive) as they are a favorite of both my husband’s and me. Thanks for sharing. Sending so many prayers for Nueve, and for you as I know you must be scared. He will be fine, as will you, when it’s all over.
