When I was five years old, I received a jewelry box for Christmas. It was magical! When I raised the lid, a beautiful ballerina popped up, on point, twirling about in her tutu. It made such an impact on me, that several decades later, I still remember it fondly. This music box was the inspiration behind today’s dancing hippo card, created for a little girl. It’s Sunday, and time to play with The Paper Players!
This week, I have the honor of hosting our 600th challenge! Can you believe that 12 years ago, on June 7, 2010, The Paper Players hosted their very first challenge? Time certainly does fly. Our sincerest thanks goes out to all who have supported us by playing along. Your cards are always a delight!
It’s our monthly Clean and Simple challenge, and I have selected the theme of Kards for Kids. Remember, by Clean and Simple, we mean cards that:
- Have minimal layers and embellishments
- Have plenty of open, “white” space
- Are simple, uncluttered
So gather up those stamps, papers, and inks! We can’t wait to see what YOU create!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
The Hippest Hippo stamp set and coordinating Hippo dies are available during Sale-A-Bration. Filled with adorable images and lots of fun dies, the Hippo collection is perfect for the young and young at heart. This prima ballerina was colored using Blender Pens and inks. And her pedestal? It happens to be the tub die. I snipped off the handles, and embossed it. While Clean and Simple cards should have minimal embellishments, I couldn’t pass up adding the rhinestones. What little girl doesn’t love bling? In my book, there is still ample “white” space to add to the clean look.

I literally squealed and clapped my hands when I saw your card, Ann! This is such a fun, girly card that’s perfectly pretty in pink. That little bedazzled pedestal is the perfect finishing touch, too. Swoon!
LOVE your twirly little hippo! She would be perfect atop a sweet little music box! Here’s a good music box story…my mom had one on her dresser (no ballerina though). I opened it up and inside were all her kids’ baby teeth! ICK!!! I never opened it again and never fessed that I had opened it either!! LOL! Glad you created such a sweet little card! And thanks for being such a great PP teamie all these years too!
I had a jewelry box like that too 🙂 Love your hippo ballerina, she’s adorable in a classic gray-and-pink color combo. Thanks for a fun challenge, Ann!
Oh Ann, I remember those music boxes! What a wonderful trip down memory lane! I love your little tutu hippo – such a fun card and it just made me smile. It’s been a pleasure to craft beside you all these Sundays
hugs

Ann, warmest congrats to you for your long time with this fabulous team! What a milestone. This sweet ballerina makes me smile! Such a CAS design yet still so true to your style with the added patterns, textures, and BLING! Love it.
Be still my hippo-loving heart – Ann this card is so girly and lovely! I love that you incorporated some of your signature style into her podium and the touches of pink are perfect. An awesome card for a fabulous 600th challenge – here’s to the next 600!
That dancing hippo is just too cute! What a sweet card!
Oh, my, I remember having one of them music boxes as well.
Triple cute card for a little girls birthday or used as a baby card.
Still having them triple digit temperatures; over 20 days now & yet more to come. :{
Talked to brother yesterday who lives in Ohio and they where in the 70’s
Take care, stay safe and keep cool
I think every little girl should have a jewelry box with a ballerina. This set also reminds me of a segment from the movie “Fantasia” – Dance of the Hours
This Hippo set is one of my new favorites! Your card is so cute!! Y’all are in my thoughts and prayers!!
Ann, I think my sister had one of those jewelry boxes too! Your hippo is perfect and love how you embossed and dolled up the stand! Great job with the challenge! Have a great week!
Oh, my hippo loving heart is so happy seeing this adorable card. Ann, I always wanted to be a ballerina and have that fabulous jewelry box. Living on a farm in Central Indiana never led to dance lessons, but I still remember longing for that box. LOL! I am so happy you had one to cherish! Your card is just perfect to make a little girl so happy!
I cherish our friendship that has developed because of the PP team. I have always admired your work and I still remember meeting you in SLC and telling you how I love your cards! Have a great week!
Hi Ann,
Love your card and I am making it right now. So sweet.
Have a great Day Ann give puppies a hug
