Saying goodbye is never easy, but saying goodbye to my best friend broke my heart.  Maybe that is why they refer to dogs like Jackie as “heart dogs” – your heart is broken when they leave. While it was sad to say goodbye to Muffy and Brody, they had lived long, wonderful lives, until losing their battles to Degenerative Myelopathy (Muffy) and a stroke (Brody).  Jackie would have only been 7 on April 4th – the victim of cancer. He was taken far too soon. Being stoic, as most Boxers are, he hid the symptoms from me until it was too late.  It had invaded his spleen, his liver and chest.  He was placed on an opioid painkiller while the emergency team at Iowa State University worked to stabilize him and assess his case. Iowa State has a wonderful oncology unit, and we were willing to do anything to have him with us longer. Cost was never an issue.  What was an issue was his quality of life.  And unfortunately, the assessment was bleak.  Although our hearts were breaking, we could not put this amazing boy through any more testing, only to end up making the decision to help him transition the next day. His attending vets were compassionate and caring, and cried with us as we said goodbye.  A working dog until the very end, we left his body for further studies. Jackie would have wanted it that way.  He was happiest when he had a job to do. He will return home to us in a few weeks, when his final “work” is done.  As I searched for pictures to post, some tears were replaced by smiles as I remembered his loving spirit, his sweet personality, his willingness to please.  Maybe you didn’t know Jack, but once you knew him, you loved him.

I would love to thank my team mates at The Paper Players and Festive Friday for allowing me time away from my design team duties to allow my heart to heal.   Three dogs in three months is almost more than I can bear.  I apologize to my customers for not being in contact this last week. I’ll be back taking care of business on Monday.

Run free, sweet Jackie.  I know your mother Muffy,  Uncle Brody, and friend Lexi were there to meet you at The Bridge.  I will miss you more than you will know…

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips

What could be better than coordinating paper, foil, and rhinestones to team up with an amazing stamp set and dies? It makes card making SO easy!  First of all, the Waves of the Ocean 12″ x 12″ designer series paper sports hues of Calypso Coral, Coastal Cabana, Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, Night of Navy, Pacific Point,  and Petal Pink.  It’s only available while supplies last. I used a pattern with shades of Pacific Point and Coastal Cabana in it. I matted it upon this gorgeous Night of Navy foil, along with a strip of Coastal Cabana foil. I know foil is really difficult to photograph, but trust me, it’s stunning!  Once again, these amazing foil papers (silver is also included in the package) are only available while supplies last, as are the Waves Rhinestones.

I learned something about my Mom today.  Sometimes, when she makes a card, she is messy. I was looking at her working place.  It was a mess.  It made my head swim! I was like “Whoa!”

She needs to take better care of her stampin’ toys.  And speaking of toys, why does everybody take my toys?  I’m tired of it. Uncle Jackie took my squeaky pig, and he wasn’t even playing with it.

Then Sixxy took the ball I was playing with, and I couldn’t get it back from her.  She thinks she’s the boss of me.

Your Strength is an InspirationI was really upset. But, my Dad made me happy again. He went out last night and bought me my own pig, because I am a good boy.

Your Strength is an InspirationWell, I have to go now. I have to help my mom clean up her stampin’ place, cause I’m a working dog. If she does a good job, maybe I’ll let her play with my pig, and give her a treat, ’cause I am Good Boy Nueve!

It’s Clean and Simple week at The Paper Players, and I have the honor of being the host. Animal lover that I am, I couldn’t help but pick Wild About Wildlife for the theme.  The Players would like to see you feature an animal on your Clean and Simple card.  From lions and tigers and bears, oh my, to float like a butterfly and sting like a bee, I can’t wait to see what YOU create.  But remember, it is CAS week, so make sure your cards:

  • Have minimal layers and embellishments
  • Have plenty of open space
  • Are simple and uncluttered

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips

On some cards the designer series paper does all of the work, but not today.  It’s the dies that do the heavy lifting.  Creating this card couldn’t be any easier. The only time consuming task is gluing together these stunning birds, and adding the blossoms to the card front. As much as I would have loved to adorn those flowers with pearls, I did try to keep it cleaner and simpler.

Notes from Nueve

Hey, everyone! It’s me! Good Boy Nueve! Sixxy and I haven’t been able to go on walks the past few days.  One day we had ice and snow, and Mom wouldn’t take us out.  Then we had sun, and Mom still wouldn’t take us on a walk. She said it was too cold. I don’t think it’s too cold, but she said I didn’t count  ’cause I have a fur coat on.  Sixxy was mad about it.  She decided to play the “Inside-Outside” game.  Do you know how to play that game?  Mom hates it, but Sixxy always gets her to play.  It’s where Sixxy wants to go out, so Mom gets up to let her out.  Then Sixxy wants to come in. So Mom gets up to let her in. Then Sixxy asks to go back out, but she waits until Mom has sat back down. SO Mom gets up to let her out…that game. SIxxy gets her to do that a bunch of times. Then Mom loses her patience and says, “NO. You can’t go back out!” and Sixxy puts on her pouty face.

This time, though, I thought Sixxy looked super sad. I felt bad for her ’cause what if she really did have to go potty?  So I decided to help her. After all, that is what I do. I’m a helper.

I walked over to join her at the door and lend a paw.  Maybe if we both stared at the door it would magically open.

It didn’t work, no matter how hard we stared at the door.  It just wouldn’t open.

I told Sixxy maybe we should both look pitiful, and see if Mom would open the door.  I used my best puppy dog eyes, and Sixxy dropped her head and looked really, really sad.

But you know what, Mom still said “No!” and she said it in her “I Mean Business” voice. So, we just decided to take a nap in front of the fire window.
