Kiwis and Tangerines

This week’s Splitcoast Challenge (SC227) once again had me reaching for Stampin’ Up!s Designer Series Papers. Urban Oasis, Urban Garden and A Walk in the Park all contributed Kiwi Kiss patterns which coordinated fantastically in this design. Of course, with Stampin’ Up!s “Buy Three…Get One Free” promotion, you can purchase three Designer Series Papers or 12″ x 12″ Textured Card Stocks and get one free. Hungry for Kiwis and Tangerines? The guilt-free recipe is as follows:

  • Begin with a 5 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ Kiwi Kiss card base. This is a size that lends itself to easily balanced designs!
  • Next layer the Kiwi Kiss Fifth Avenue Floral paper from the Urban Oasis Designer Series Paper directly onto the card base.
  • A geometric Kiwi Kiss design from A Walk in the Park Designer Series Paper was selected for the horizontal panel and matted onto Kiwi Kiss card stock.
  • The vertical panel, also matted on Kiwi Kiss, is from the Urban Garden Designer Series Paper collection.
  • Tangerine Tango was punched using the Eyelet Border Punch to add contrast.
The Stampin’ Up! Little Leaves Sizzlits die and the Big Shot was used to cut two leaflets from Tangerine Tango, which were adhered to the vertical panel.
  • As a final touch, the Leaflet Soho Designer Hardware Brad was attached to a white 1-1/4” circle layered on a Tangerine Tango scalloped circle punched using a Nestabilities die and the Big Shot.

Quick and Classy

Sometimes simple is powerful! Although “quick” and “easy” could be two adjectives that would describe this card, I prefer to describe it as “elegant” and “chic”. While the ribbon is reminiscent of a classic grey tuxedo, the eyelet border adds a hint of femininity and compliments the small, texturized dots, making this card one of my favorites! Do you have ten minutes? Let’s make this card!

  • Make a card base from Very Vanilla card stock. Texturize it using the Small Dots plate from Stampin‘ Up! Backgrounds I and your Big Shot.
  • Add a Basic Gray Taffeta bow.
  • Punch a border using the Eyelet Border Punch and adhere to the bottom of your card. I used a selection from Patterns Pack Designer Series Paper II, which is a Hostess Level I gift.

Design Tip: The nice thing about this card is that it can be easily modified for any occasion. Change out the ribbon and the border paper, and you can create an entirely different mood, or a sentiment can be quickly stamped onto a scalloped oval and added to the left of the bow. This becomes a perfect design base. And for today…I like it just the way it is!

Butterfly Tea Party

As I have mentioned many times before, I love Designer Series Paper and the Butterfly stamp from the “Occasions MiniGreat Friend set. Tea Party Designer Series Paper provided wonderful spring colors to compliment the bevy of butterflies on this card. Of course, now is the time to stock up on Designer Series Paper and 12″ x 12″ Textured Card Stock during Stampin’ Up!s “Buy Three, Get 1 Free” promotion. This card can be made in a flash, and features the Big Shot and Texturz Dies.
  • Make a card base from Barely Banana card stock and run it through the Big Shot using the Large Dot plate from Stampin’ Up! Backgrounds I.
  • Using Almost Amethyst card stock, punch an Eyelet Border strip approximately 2″ wide. Tip: Cut the strip about 1/2″ wider, as you will lose some width with this punch.
  • Add a 1-1/2″ strip of Small Yellow Floral paper from the Tea Party Designer Series Paper.
  • Layer Certainly Celery and Pretty in Pink Ribbons across the front of the card as seen in the picture.
  • Stamp three butterflies using the Butterfly image from the Great Friend stamp set, using Pretty in Pink, Certainly Celery, and Almost Amethyst ink on Very Vanilla card stock. Cut out using Paper Snips. Tip: Stampin’ Up!s Paper Snips are excellent for cutting out even the most intricate designs!
  • Scatter the butterflies across the surface of the card using Mini Glue Dots. Add a few rhinestones down the center of each butterfly for just the right touch of sparkle!
  • Welcome to my Tea Party!
Design Note: This card is pretty even without the ribbon and butterflies. Just select your favorite Designer Series Paper, and use the coordinating card stock! It only takes seconds to zip the paper through the Big Shot using the Texturz Plate of your choice.
