Dragonfly Dreams for Freshly Made Sketches

Dragonfly Dreams is one of the sets which spoke my name when I first opened up the 2017 Occasions Catalog.  A lover of art nouveau, dragonflies have always been one of my favorite images.  And what better sketch to show off this winged beauty than Jen Mitchell’s classic sketch for Freshly Made Sketches Challenge #268.  Enjoy today’s card.

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
This card measure 5-1/4″ square when folded.

Every card deserves a good foundation, and Jen’s sketch provides just that.  I used patterns from the Falling in Love Designer Series Paper Collection, matted onto Gold Foil.  The colors of these papers are so soft and subtle.  The Gold Foil adds just the perfect touch of elegance.

The Soft Suede Dragonfly was popped on top of a Gold Foil specimen, which had been created with the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits.  Of course, every dragonfly deserves Pearls, so I added a few on the tail.

Metallic Gold Thread and Gold 1/4″ Natural Trim ribbon complete the look.

I hope you enjoyed today’s card.  I am so in love with this sketch.  I used it for my previous card, and I am sure that I will use it again.  And how about this dragonfly!  I did have a little help with today’s design.  Or maybe it was a hindrance more than a help.  How could I resist this face?  He could not wait for me to finish up and go play with him.

As always, if you ever have any questions about the cards I create, or the techniques I use, I am only an email away! Until next time…

Reindeer Greetings for FMS268

Christmas Day has passed.  I trust that all of you who celebrate the holiday had a day filled with peace and love.  Kim, Brady and I celebrated quietly at home…as quietly as is possible when you have Boxers with new squeaky toys!  As I was a bit under the weather, I didn’t get this card posted for you.  It uses a retired set from 1999 named Reindeer Greetings.  I found it at our local Goodwill store this past summer for $2.88.  Since I loved the simplicity of the reindeer, I couldn’t pass it by. I thought it worked perfectly with his fabulous sketch from Freshly Made Sketches. I absolutely love this challenge.  Since the FMS team looks for clean lines and edges, it forces me to create outside my comfort zone, and that is a good thing in terms of stretching one’s creativity.  I hope you enjoy today’s card!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
When folded, this card measures 5-1/4″ square.

I opted for a clean and elegant look for today’s card, and nothing screams holiday elegance to me like black and gold!  The Reindeer was inked in VersaMark and then heat embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder.

The Gold Foil panel was matted onto Basic Black card stock.  I matted the Polka Dot Fabulous Foil Designer Acetate sheet first onto Whisper White, with no border, and then onto Basic Black, with a 1/16″ border on all four sides.

Because I felt the card was a little stark, I added a Gold Baker’s Twine Bow. It was very simple, yet added a needed touch of texture.

To truly see the warmth of this card, here it is  pictured without the light tent:

And again, from the other side:

I know, I know.  I used a retired stamp.  But don’t you just love this sketch? I’m sure I will be using it again.  It is a classic.  And on the upside, I have my first holiday card created to send out for Christmas 2017!
