Jolly Christmas for Freshly Made Sketches

img_1662-002

Freshly Made Sketches features a classic sketch this week which I can see myself using again and again! I was in the mood for something a wee bit elegant, so I decided to ink up a retired set which is one of my all-time favorites, Jolly Christmas.  This is one of my sets which has seen a ton of use, since I used this same deer to create 115 swap cards when I attended Stampin’ Up!‘s last Founder’s Circle.  I think this design just may be a winner for this year’s Christmas cards, too!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
This finished card measures 5-1/2″ wide x 4-1/4″ tall when folded.

  • Touches of elegance!  Gold embossing, Very Vanilla cardstock and Gold Foil pair up for a rich and elegant combination.  The Tree die cut, made with the Perfect Pines Framelits, is decorated with Pearls.  Retired Gold Cording Trim accents the punched circle nicely.  Since this was the last of my cording trim, my Christmas cards will be sporting Gold Baker’s Twine.

  • Gold snowflakes! I pulled out my retired Gold Encore ink to ink up the Snowflakes from Christmas Pine.  This image is turning into one of my “go-to” stamps.  I love the background it creates.  If you do not have Gold Encore, consider one of Stampin’ Up!’s neutral shades of inks, like Crumb Cake, and stamp off to lighten it. For a touch of color, Soft Sky would be lovely, too!
  • img_1671Merry Christmas! In keeping with the elegant tone of this card, I opted to use a sentiment with a cursive font.  This one is from the Star of Light stamp set.  I just LOVE it, don’t you?  Soft Suede ink looks great with the gold.

img_1678If you do not have the  retired Jolly Christmas set, don’t despair.  This is such a wonderful sketch, you could put a variety of images in the focal circle, and the results would be amazing. I could have used current sets.  Bells, pine cones, stockings, trees, ornaments…the list is endless! But every once in awhile, nostalgia strikes, and I just have to pull out one of my oldies but goodies.  When I saw the circle on this sketch, I immediately thought of this leaping reindeer.

Cozy Critters for The Paper Players

img_1548

The talented Claire at The Paper Players has the perfect challenge for this busy Thanksgiving week: Clean and Simple Christmas.  I had all types of clean and simple designs floating through my head. Most of them were clean and elegant.  Surprisingly enough, I opted for clean and cute, and inked up the Cozy Critters Host Set for the first time. I hope you enjoy today’s effort!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
When folded, this card measures 4-1/4″ wide x 5-1/2″ tall.

  • Fox on a box! I stamped the Present from Cozy Critters three times: Emerald Envy, Real Red, Daffodil Delight. I then cut off the Real Red lid and adhered it to the Emerald Envy image.  I did the same with the Daffodil Delight ribbon.  The result has so much dimension!

  • Fox in a hat!  I inked up the Fox from Cozy Critters with Calypso Coral ink, and stamped onto Whisper White cardstock.  I repeated this two more times, for a total of three foxes.  Fox #1, I snipped out with Paper Snips.  The body of Fox #2 was punched out with the Fox Builder Punch, and popped atop Fox #1 with dimensionals. I snipped out the head of Fox #3, and also added it Fox #1.  For Santa’s hat, I used the Hat from Jolly Friends, while the Tail is courtesy of the Foxy Friends set.

  • Stitches and snowflakes! The Snowflake background, from Christmas Pines, was inked in Soft Sky. What a sweetly subtle background it makes for the Present, which was cut out using an Oval Stitched Shapes Framelits die.

Wouldn’t this make an adorable card for a child? I thought it would.  But when my 27-year-old son saw it, his eyes lit up.  He has a thing for foxes…so Brady, I guess this one will be yours!

Hey Chick for Freshly Made Sketches

img_1532-001The talented designers at Freshly Made Sketches have what I think is a very cute sketch this week.  I know I should be making holiday cards, but I really wanted to play with some of my new goodies from the upcoming Sale-a-bration Brochure.  This fun little set is called Hey, Chick.  I thought this goofy little chickie would be perfect to use with this sketch.  Although she will not be available until the brochure goes live January 4th, I still hope you will enjoy today’s card.  And I promise, I will be posting holiday cards for you very soon!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
This finished card measures 4-1/4″ wide by 5-1/2″ tall when folded.

  • Easy peasy! I inked this crazy little gal in Basic Black Archival ink and stamped her three times.  I then punched out the images using the 1-1/2″, 1-3/8″, and 1-1/4″ punches.  Her feathers are a mix of Crushed Curry and Pumpkin Pie, while Smoky Slate was used to highlight her body.  Soft Sky adds a subtle shadow around her.  The image was inked a fourth time and stamped directly onto the card base.  She was colored the same way as before.
  • Speckles! One of my most often used stamps is the Speckles image from Gorgeous Grunge.  For this card, it was inked with Crushed Curry, and used to randomly stamp the lower part of the card. I repeated the process with Smoky Slate.  Of course, I masked off the chicken in the corner to prevent her from getting speckled in the process.
  • Hey, chick!  Every chick deserves a little bling, so I added a single Rhinestone to accent each chick.  I LOVE the way the rhinestones draw the eye right to the circles.

I had a blast creating this quick and easy, clean and simple card.  Since I have a few friends who would be perfect candidates for receiving this card, I  am sure I will be whipping out a couple more!
