Dragonfly Dreams for Freshly Made Sketches

Dragonfly Dreams is one of the sets which spoke my name when I first opened up the 2017 Occasions Catalog.  A lover of art nouveau, dragonflies have always been one of my favorite images.  And what better sketch to show off this winged beauty than Jen Mitchell’s classic sketch for Freshly Made Sketches Challenge #268.  Enjoy today’s card.

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
This card measure 5-1/4″ square when folded.

Every card deserves a good foundation, and Jen’s sketch provides just that.  I used patterns from the Falling in Love Designer Series Paper Collection, matted onto Gold Foil.  The colors of these papers are so soft and subtle.  The Gold Foil adds just the perfect touch of elegance.

The Soft Suede Dragonfly was popped on top of a Gold Foil specimen, which had been created with the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits.  Of course, every dragonfly deserves Pearls, so I added a few on the tail.

Metallic Gold Thread and Gold 1/4″ Natural Trim ribbon complete the look.

I hope you enjoyed today’s card.  I am so in love with this sketch.  I used it for my previous card, and I am sure that I will use it again.  And how about this dragonfly!  I did have a little help with today’s design.  Or maybe it was a hindrance more than a help.  How could I resist this face?  He could not wait for me to finish up and go play with him.

As always, if you ever have any questions about the cards I create, or the techniques I use, I am only an email away! Until next time…

  1. I love this card. Do you happen to know the dimensions of the 2nd layer with the bokeh print. I know the card is 5 1/4 square. I finally was able to get a hold of some pieces of this retired DSP and would love to have this card made and ready for that special occasion. It is a beauty.

  2. Love your style!

  4. Ann,

    Happy New Year!
I took a little break from blogging and enjoyed my LONG vacation break (Dec 16 – Jan 3). I did however go back browse at all your creations from my absence. FABULOUS of course. Your dragon fly is gorgeous… love the sketch too. and the DSP background reminds me of a screen door it landed on. right?
Your carrousel horse is beautiful! love the colored flags below… such a great touch.
I especially liked the story about your mom…. I make a vanilla bark, pretzel, peanut cookie/candy…. so stinkin’ easy. Melt on the stove over low heat… stir in the broken pretzels and peanuts and drop on waxed paper. They set up in about 10 minutes… done! I like the white choc best for these but you can make either. Don’t you cherish your mom’s handwritten stuff. I sure do.
Of course your helper’s face is just the cutest! Hugs.
