Clean and Simple Sports for PP410

It’s time to play with The Paper Players! Can you believe it has been three years since I last uttered those words? But I am proud and happy to announce that I am back on the Design Team that I love so much, creating alongside the most amazing women I know.   Their artistic ability and creative spirit inspire me.  It is an honor to be back, and I hope I do not disappoint them!

This week the lovely Claire is hosting a Clean and Simple Challenge – Sports! Can you believe that my first challenge back is a Clean and Simple challenge?  Clean and Simple has always been a stretch for me.  However, I am always up for a challenge.  I hope you enjoy today’s card.

Clean and Simple

Colors of the Day

Being an Iowa gal,  there was no doubt that my Sports card would feature the Iowa Hawkeyes.  However, this card can very easily be made into a card celebrating YOUR favorite team:

  • Use your team’s colors. The card base measures 4-1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5-1/2″.  The Daffodil Delight layer measures 4″ x 5-1/4″; the Basic Black layer is 3-3/4″ x 5″; and the top layer is 3-5/8″ x 4-7/8″.
  • Substitute your team’s mascot. Herky the Hawk (a digital image I purchased off Etsy) is perched atop an oval created with Stampin’ Up!’s Layering Ovals framelits. It was matted on a Basic Black scalloped oval, and adhered to the card base using dimensionals.
  • Spell out the name of your favorite team.  I pulled out the retired Little Letters thinlits, but you can use alphabet stamps if you wish.
  • Finish off your card with rhinestones or embellishments of your choice.

Clean and Simple

Wouldn’t this make an adorable invitation to a “watch party”, whether it’s a Bowl Game or the NCAA tournament, or even a BBQ before the big game? What do you think?

Clean and Simple

I hope you will join us over at The Paper Players  and celebrate my first week back on the team. I can’t wait to see what you create!  The challenge is open until Friday,  September 21, 2018 at 12:00 Noon PST.
As always, if you have any questions about the cards I create or the techniques I use, I am only an email away.  Now scurry on over and see what my fellow design team members have created.  Until next time…

“On the CASE” Notes
Your Step-by-Step Guide

1.  Score the cardstock at 4-1/4″ and crease with a bone folder to form the card base.

2.  Emboss the 5-3/8″ x 4-1/8″ piece of Mint Macaron cardstock with the Subtle folder.  Adhere to the card base with SNAIL adhesive.

Follow Your Dreams

3.  Create a circle in the upper left part of the 5″ x 3-3/4″ piece of Mint Macaron cardstock using the Filigree Circle.  Adhere to the card base using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Follow Your Dreams

4.  Die cut the feathers from Berry Burst, Caylpso Coral, Petal  Pink, So Saffron,  and Tranquil Tide;  the Filigree Circle from Whisper White; and the word “Dream” from Tranquil Tide.  Use a Stampin’ Write Marker® in the corresponding feather color to draw the barbs of the feather.

5.  Adhere these pieces to the card base in the positions shown.

6.  Selectively ink the sentiment in Calypso Coral and stamp onto Calypso Coral cardstock. Snip out the words “Follow Your”, and adhere to the card.  Ink the small Feathered Circle in Mint Macaron, and stamp as shown. Repeat this two more times for a total of three circles.

If you would like to step up this card, try adding a snippet of Linen Thread on the feathers…

How Hard Was It to Crack This CASE

Although there is a lot of die cutting to do on today’s card, the technique is easy.  There will be time invested, but the outcome is well worth it.   Difficulty Level:  3 out of 5, simply because of all the steps involved.

FF0016 Air Force Birthday and/or Clouds

Hot air balloon card

It’s time for the Festive Friday Challenge, where every challenge is a party! For FF0016, we are celebrating the US Air Force Birthday (September 18th) and/or Clouds. You can create a card celebrating the Air Force’s birthday, you can feature clouds on your card, or you can combine both! Whatever way you decide to create is fine with us. We would love to have you play along.

For today’s card, I selected the Clouds option of the challenge.  It just so happens the Lift Me Up stamp set not only features clouds, but also a trio of beautiful hot air balloons.  What a perfect set to use for today’s challenge!  I hope you enjoy today’s card as much as I enjoyed creating it.

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips

The largest balloon is the star of today’s hot air balloon card.   It was die cut from Very Vanilla cardstock.  Tranquil Textures Designer Series Paper and Joyous Noel Specialty Designer Series Paper in a Tranquil Tide hue were used to back it. The mini-sized “Swirly Cloud” image, inked in Crumb Cake,  was used to decorate the Very Vanilla cut-out.  This little stamp is perfect for adding a touch of interest to anything. The edges were then distressed using Crumb Cake ink and a sponge dauber.

The smaller balloons were both stamped twice, once in Crumb Cake and once in Tranquil Tide.  I then paper pieced each one.

As you can see, the medium sized balloon was stamped with the “Swirly Cloud” image. I love this little stamp!

As a finishing touch, I added a Baker’s Twine bow to the largest balloon.  I used white twine, which I tinted with Tranquil Tide ink.  The other two balloons are sporting Linen Thread bows.  A trio of Tranquil Tide Artisan Pearls complete the look.
