Stamp Review Crew: Sea of Textures Joy Fold Card

It’s time for the Stamp Review Crew: Sea of Textures Edition! If this is your very first visit to one of our hops, the Stamp Review Crew is a group of international Stampin’ Up! demonstrators whose mission is to do a blog hop on the first, third and fifth Mondays of each month. Our hops are unique because each of us features the same stamp set used in a variety of ways, giving you loads of inspiration for that set. The hops are archived at the Stamp Review Crew blog. You will be able to click through each hop at any time, going directly to the posts for that hop whenever you want. This week we are featuring the Sea of Textures stamp set. If you are following along in order, you have just arrived from the talented Charlet Mallet.  After visiting me, you will continue to the next stop, the always creative Lou Kitzelman.

Sea of Textures Joy Fold Card

Joy Fold Card

Joy Fold Card

I have always loved octopi! They fascinate me, not only by their appearance, but also by their behaviors.  It must be the science teacher in me.  It wasn’t a surprise that I loved this bundle, especially given the textural images, too.  I hope you enjoy today’s Sea of Textures joy fold card.

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips

Joy fold cards are always fun to make, and they are easy, too! This one highlights one of the gorgeous patterns found in the Tranquil Textures Designer Series Paper collection.

Joy Fold CardThe inside was decorated with Crumb Cake netting and sea fans, with sea weed die cut from the same designer paper that is featured on the card.  Glimmer paper star fish and coral fans add a touch of sparkle.  The sentiment was inked in Fresh Fig, and offset to the side.

The octopus was heat embossed in copper on vellum, and then die cut out.  He rests against a Sahara Sand net, while surrounded by a variety of glimmer paper sea weed, sea fans, coral, sand dollars and starfish, all created with the Under the Sea Framelits.

I am not sure to whom I will send this card.  I have a friend who LOVES the beach who happens to be retiring soon, and I think she would love today’s card.  After all, retirement certainly is an adventure!

This is not the only Sea of Textures card I have created.  You may remember this one I designed for the Festive Friday Challenge:

#FF0013: Pop-Up Card to Celebrate State Fairs

pop up card

It’s time for the Festive Friday Challenge, where every challenge is a party! For FF0013, we are celebrating State Fairs with a Turquoise twist. You can create a card to celebrate State Fairs, or you can create a card or project that has the color turquoise, or you can combine both! Whatever way you decide to create is fine with us! We would love to have you play along!

State Fair Pop Up Card

pop-up cardI live in Iowa, home of one of the greatest state fairs in the nation.  Therefore, it should come as no surprise that I would select the State Fair option. The Iowa State Fair is known as “America’s classic state fair,” and has inspired books, movies, and a Broadway musical. Although it is well-known for its amazing butter cow sculpture, which could butter an estimated 19, 200 pieces of toast, the Iowa State Fair also boasts fabulous livestock competitions, grandstand entertainment and a whopping 82 different fried foods on a stick.

I would have loved to have created a butter cow card, but alas, I have no cow stamps in my collection. In addition, I have no fried food on a stick images either.  SO, I opted to create a roller coaster pop-up card using the Let the Good Times Roll stamp set and Thrill Ride Pop-Up Thinlits to celebrate the Midway. And let me tell you…the good times do roll at the Iowa State Fair! I hope you enjoy today’s card.

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips

I had a blast creating this pop-up card.  As you can see, there were a ton of pieces to die cut from a multitude of card stocks, including all of the little flags and banners.

pop-up card

Flags and banners were created from Real Red, Daffodil Delight, Blueberry Bushel, and Pumpkin Pie card stocks. The bushes were stamped in Tranquil Tide, while the sun was stamped in Daffodil Delight ink onto Daffodil Delight card stock.  The cars were stamped in Blueberry Bushel, Pumpkin Pie, Lovely Lipstick, Daffodil Delight, and Pool Party.  Yep, there was a lot of stamping and die cutting.

The little concession cart was actually stamped 4 times in 4 different colors and paper pieced. Yep, there was a lot of cutting and stamping going on with this card.  But isn’t it an adorable card?  It was well worth the time and effort.

The Challenge Twists

As mentioned earlier, Festive Friday is a challenge with twists.  If you do not wish to create a State Fair project, you could create a card or project featuring the color turquoise.  We offer alternatives for every challenge.  Plus, if you play along with us, you will be earning Fest Points which can be redeemed for items such as tutorials (including the tutorial for today’s card), retired Stampin’ Up! products, design team cards, and even a spot as a Guest Designer! But remember:  To earn Fest Points, you need an account on the challenge site. Just click on login/register on the challenge site to get started.

On the CASE: The CASE of the Masculine Birthday Card

masculine birthday

Nicole and I are back On the CASE. Our mission: To work through current Stampin’ Up! catalogs, breaking down gorgeous samples step-by-step, just for you! CASE means to Copy and Share with Everyone, and that is exactly what we do. We hope you enjoy the cards we CASE and the free tutorials included in our posts.  Today’s edition features a CASE of the En Route masculine birthday card.

Annual Catalog Page 53

Let’s be perfectly honest.  The Best Route Suite was NOT one which was calling my name.  There were other suites who topped my Wish List.  However, one day as I was making my way from Delightfully Detailed to Tropical Chic in the catalog, I took time to really look at this suite. While it is what I would call a masculine set, the sentiments could be used for anyone.  The samples are amazing…and so appropriate for graduations, promotions, and birthdays…especially when paired with the Best Route Memories & More Card Pack.  So I bought it all.  The paper, the enamel shapes, the textured impressions embossing folder, the washi tape, and of course, the Best Route Memories & More Card Pack.  I hope you enjoy today’s CASE of a card which is perfect for a masculine birthday or a graduation.
