Stamp Review Crew: Buffalo Check Christmas

Buffalo Check Christmas card

It’s time for the Stamp Review Crew: Buffalo Check Edition! If this is your very first visit to one of our hops, the Stamp Review Crew is a group of international Stampin’ Up! demonstrators whose mission is to do a blog hop on the first, third and fifth Mondays of each month. Our hops are unique because each of us features the same stamp set used in a variety of ways, giving you loads of inspiration for that set. The hops are archived at the Stamp Review Crew blog. You will be able to click through each hop at any time, going directly to the posts for that hop whenever you want.

This week we are featuring the Buffalo Check background stamp. If you are following along in order, you have just arrived from the amazing Tanya Boser.  After visiting me, you will continue to the next stop, the talented Dawn Tidd.  Be prepared to be inspired!

Buffalo Check Christmas

I’m mad for plaid! I’m smartin’ for tartan! I’m a wreck over check! There should be no doubt in anyone’s mind that this background stamp was on my first order from the Holiday Catalog.  It is so versatile, depending on the color ink and the cardstock color you use.  Because I am getting into the holiday spirit early, I opted for a traditional red and black buffalo check. I hope you enjoy today’s card.

Buffalo Check Christmas

Red and black Buffalo Check reminds me of a plaid flannel shirt my dad used to wear when I was growing up on the farm.  It’s a color and pattern which evokes feelings of warmth and comfort, and for this reason I wanted a special sentiment, such as the one found in the Snowflake Sentiments set. It is stamped in Shaded Spruce onto Crumb Cake cardstock.  A Stitched Shapes oval just fits!

For a touch of the unexpected,  I wanted to add a bit of sparkle.  Gold Glimmer pine cones, Tranquil Tide Glimmer pine boughs, and Sparkle Glimmer berries were created with Pretty Pines Thinlits.

Buffalo Check Christmas

A double bow, made from Real Red 3/8″ Mixed Satin Ribbon, finishes off the cluster.

Buffalo Check Christmas

Because of the bow, I will need to hand deliver this card. But that will not stop me from making a few more of these for my neighbors!

Glittery Holiday Card for The Paper Players

It’s Sunday, and time to play with The Paper Players! This week the lovely LeAnne has planned a fun Tic Tac Toe challenge for us.

Glittery Holiday Card

I used Stampin’ Up!’s Frosted Floral Suite to create a glittery holiday card, which completes both the top and bottom horizontal rows of LeAnne’s challenge. I hope you enjoy today’s card.

Don’t you love how the colors Mint Macaron and Tranquil Tide complement each other? These two patterns from the Frosted Floral Specialty Designer Series Paper collection make a beautiful backdrop for the other elements on this card.

I completed an entire row by adding Copper and Tranquil Tide Glimmer Paper die cuts created with Frosted Bouquet Framelits Dies.

Glittery Holiday Card

A Berry Burst sentiment, offset to one side, becomes the focal point.

Glittery Holiday Card

Three sequins, with rhinestone centers, add even more sparkle to this glittery holiday card.

What do you think? Is this a card you would like to receive? Won’t you let me know in today’s comments?

On the CASE: Falling for Leaves Thinking of You

Follow Your Dreams

Nicole and I are back On the CASE working through current Stampin’ Up! catalogs, breaking down gorgeous samples step-by-step, and providing you with free tutorials so you can CASE your own. This week I am featuring a thinking of you card created with the Falling for Leaves bundle, a fall set from the Holiday Catalog.  Enjoy!

The card I selected to CASE is the Mossy Meadow thinking of you card.  I liked the Pumpkin Pie “pop” of color and the gorgeous detailed Mint Macaron leaf. I hope you like this card as much as I do.

Colors of the Day
Stamps and Papers and Inks … Oh, My!

Stamps: Falling for Leaves Bundle (includes Detailed Leaves Thinlits Die)
Paper: Mint Macaron (4-1/2″ x 2″),  Mossy Meadow (4-1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5-1/2″), Pear Pizzazz (4-1/4″ x 1″, 2-1/2″ x 2-1/2″), Pumpkin Pie (2″ x 2-1/2″), Whisper White (3″ x 3″), Country Lane Designer Series Paper (4-1/4″ x 3/4″)
Ink: Early Espresso, Mossy Meadow, Pear Pizzazz, Pumpkin Pie
Other: Big Shot,  Detailed Leaves Thinlits, Stitched Shapes Framelits, 5/8″ Striped Burlap Trim,  Stampin’ Dimensionals, SNAIL

“On the CASE” Notes
Your Step-by-Step Guide

1.  Score the Mossy Meadow cardstock at 5-1/2″ and crease with a bone folder to form the card base.  Ink the leafy image in Mossy Meadow and randomly stamp around the edges as shown.

2.  Die cut the edging from Pear Pizzazz cardstock.

3.  Adhere the edging to the card base.   Add the strip of designer paper, then adhere burlap trim at the interface.  (Cut off the top part of the burlap trim as shown.)

4.  Stamp the single leaf in Pumpkin Pie twice. Stamp the triple leaves once in Pear Pizzazz. Die cut all the leaves out using the appropriate thinlit.

5.  Die cut the elegant leaf out of Mint Macaron.

6.  Stamp the sentiment in Early Espresso onto Very Vanilla cardstock.  (I made a mistake and used Whisper White.  Yikes!)  Ink the delicate flower image in Pumpkin Pie, and stamp over the sentiment.  Do this twice.  Die cut the sentiment using the 2-3/8″ (approximate) round Stitched Shapes framelit. Adhere to the card using dimensionals.

7.  Adhere the leaves to the card base as shown.

How Hard Was It to Crack This CASE

Your arm and Big Shot will get a work out with all the die cutting necessary for this card! There are lots of steps involved, but there isn’t anything which will cause you a problem.  Difficulty Level:  3 out of 5, simply because of the time invested and the number of  steps involved.  However, the smile this card will put on someone’s face will be well worth your time.

#SUontheCASE

Nicole and I hope our projects today inspire you to try CASEing the catalog, too! We’ll be “on the case”, looking for the hashtag #SUontheCASE on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+  & Pinterest). If we find one of your projects, we’ll share it, like it, repost it – we’ll do it all!
