Do you find it hard to find just the right masculine card? Maybe this clean and simple masculine card is just what you need! It’s Sunday and time to play with The Paper Players.

This week it is the talented Jan’s turn to host our Clean and Simple challenge. She has selected the theme of “Masculine” for us. I used a fun coyote image to design a card that I felt was versatile enough for a male of any age, whether they are the “younger men” in our lives, like grandsons, or “not-as-young” men, such as my husband. (Yep, this was his Valentine card this year.) I can’t wait to see what YOU create! But remember, this is a CLEAN and SIMPLE challenge.  Before you run off to gather your stamps, papers, and inks, keep in mind that when The Paper Players use the term “clean and simple”, we mean cards that:

Have minimal layers and embellishments
Have plenty of open space
Are simple and uncluttered

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips

Masculine cards don’t have to be boring. They can be anything you want them to be. Feel free to break away from the stereotypes. Rich colors, like the Night of Navy featured on today’s card, is always a sure bet. However, feel free to have a little fun. What says fun better than Granny Apple Green grass and a Boho Blue sky! Instead of brown, which I felt could be a little drab for the vibe I was going for, my coyote is rather dapper in Smoky Slate, plucking his Pecan Pie banjo. And for an unexpected “pop” of color, I added a Berry Burst bandana.

Of course, I love using texture on all of my cards. The Timber 3D embossing folder is usually my “go to” embossing folder for masculine cards. Texture is also added by heat embossing the sentiment. In keeping with the Clean and Simple requirements, no embellishments were added. The result is a flat card which is “post office friendly”.

Beautiful Butterfly PP724

With the gray and dreary weather we have been experiencing here in southeast Iowa, today’s card is a day brightener. What could be cheerier than a beautiful butterfly! It’s Sunday and time to play with The Paper Players!

This week, sweet LeAnne has a wonderful color challenge for us: Summer Splash, Daffodil Delight, Flirty Flamingo. As you can see from the fabulous inspiration the Design Team has provided, there are so many ways to use these colors. I can’t wait to see what YOU create!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips

In determining how to incorporate LeAnne’s challenge colors, I used the 60 – 30 – 10 rule of design: the dominant color should take up 60% of the design, the secondary color should take up 30%, and an accent color should take up 10% of the design. Keeping this in mind, I decided on Summer Splash as my main color. I used a pattern from the Unbound Beauty designer series paper collection to form the background panel. Isn’t this a great subtle pattern?

Daffodil Delight become my secondary color, and the intricate butterfly wings were die cut from Beautiful Bokeh paper using the Beautiful Butterflies dies, which are part of the Beautiful Butterflies Hybrid Embossing Folder. (Note: It may be a little confusing, but a hybrid embossing folder contains both the embossing folder AND the dies.)

Flirty Flamingo worked great as my accent color. I used Flirty Flamingo cardstock to create the scalloped frame. (The Stitched So Sweetly dies are retired, but as their name implies they are very sweet…and sometimes I just have to get them out and show them some love.) The paper used to create the butterfly’s body is a pattern from the Brights 6″ x 6″ collection. To finish things off, I stamped the sentiment in Flirty Flamingo and added three Flirty Flamingo Rainbow Dots. The Starstruck embossing folder, a Sale-A-Bration freebie, adds such lovely texture!

Reminiscent of a Beatrix Potter illustration, what can be cuter than a bunny in a bowtie professing his love! It’s Sunday and time to play with The Paper Players!

This week I have the pleasure of hosting our Theme Challenge: Love Is in the Air. Just think of the possibilities! It could be a birthday card, an anniversary card, a wedding card, a Valentine, a child’s card and more. In the famous words of John Lennon, “All you need is love…”

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips

This week’s card is all about the paper! Storybook Moments designer series paper appeals to me on so many levels. The figural sheets of adorable beasties have a vintage vibe to them. The images remind me of illustrations from a Beatrix Potter book. I decided to showcase a sweet little bunny boy, dressed in his bowtie. The ornate frame was die cut from a lovely Boho Blue pattern using a die from the Storybook Friends die collection. This blue looked lovely against the Crumb Cake Timeless Plaid backdrop. What better way for him to profess his love than with the sentiment, “My heart loves your heart”, courtesy of the Heart Shaped stamp set.
