Just A Note

I love sending “just a note” cards to a friends. The wonderful thing about “just a note” cards is that you can tailor them for so many occasions simply by customizing the inside sentiment. Birthday, thinking of you, get well soon, congratulations and more. The sky is truly the limit. In fact, I am sending you a virtual “just a note” card right now to let you know it’s Sunday and time to play with The Paper Players!

just a note card

The incredible Jaydee is hosting this week. Because it is the fifth Sunday in the month, it happens to be a Tic-Tac-Toe challenge. What a fun board she has prepared for our stamping pleasure! I went right across the middle with “flowers, die cut, embossing/foiling”. I can’t wait to see what elements you choose. But before you head off to gather your stamps, papers and inks, please be sure to check out what our talented design team members have created for your inspiration!

Today’s card has a delightful feminine-vintage vibe going on, don’t you think? This lovely Beautiful Gallery floral pattern, as well as a bow and pearl embellishments, certainly played a major role in adding to the feminine factor. Likewise, the color palette and the embossing, courtesy of the retired Distressed Tile 3D embossing folder, imparted a vintage feel. With their perforated edges, the Perennial Postage die cuts added interest, and when “popped up”, gave depth and dimension. And you want to know the best part? This “just a note” card was easy-peasy, quick and easy!

Hey, everyone, it’s me, Nueve! I have so many things to tell you! I have been on vay-ka-shun. We went to visit my human brother, Brady, his wife Korin, and my Auntie Kia in Washington. It’s a place very far away from Iowa and the Missipibby ribber. It took four days for us to drive there. They have mountains. I wanted to see one close-up, but Mom said that even though they look like they are not very far away, they really are.

I was very happy to see Auntie Kia and her mom, Korin. Korin is very pretty. She smells good, too. I gave her lots of kisses.

My kisses must have tickled because they made her laugh big! It was great seeing her ’cause I hadn’t seen her for three years!

Poor Aunt Kia has the same dee-zeeze that Great Aunt Muffy had. It’s called Degenerative Myelopathy. (Mom spelled it for me.) It is like ALS in people. It makes me sad ’cause she can’t move very good and can’t jump or play very good. But that’s okay. I wasn’t supposed to be doing a lot of running or jumping yet ’cause of my “Owie Leg”. We just did a lot of laying out in the yard in the sun.

She has to wear special boots and things on her hind legs so she can move a little. Mom said Aunt Kia has braces, but I think Mom is confused. You wear braces on your teeth, and Auntie Kia does not have braces on her teeth. Anyway, we looked for critters in the grass.

I was lucky and spotted a sloth ball in the wild. I made sure to grab it before it attacked Auntie Kia.

Auntie Kia is white in the face ’cause she is old. But I think she is still beautiful. Mom said that when Auntie Kia was young, she looked a lot like Sixxy.

I don’t know when I will see Auntie Kia again, so I made sure to give her lots of snuggles.

Auntie Kia even let me take one of her toys home with me so I would never forget her smell. It was a special toy she got when she finished her last chemotherapy treatment. Yep, Auntie Kia is a Warrior Princess and a cancer survivor. Mom said she had part of her “test-tens” removed. “Test-tens” are inside your tummy area. ‘Cause they are inside you, they are “in-test-tens”. I figured that out all by myself!

I will always remember the time I spent with Auntie Kia. I loved just being with her and snuggling with her. I made certain I was very gentle with her. She was my alpha and I was respectful. Most importantly, I made memories with her. Making memories with the ones I love is part of my job. I am a Working Dog. I am Good Boy Nueve!

Nueve had a bit of a setback last Sunday. Things were progressing well. He had been allowed to resume most of his activities, even going up and down stairs. He attended his first obedience class in 4 months on Thursday and was so happy to see his classmates and instructors. And then something happened Sunday morning. I had gone upstairs, leaving him on the first floor. A few minutes later, he came upstairs to check on me, as he always does – he rarely leaves my side. When I walked into the bedroom where he was, there he stood on three legs. He was holding up what he calls his “Owie Leg”. He couldn’t put any weight on it and was limping. I was devastated. He and I had worked so hard to heal and recover. Very carefully, Kim and I were able to get him down the stairs. We set up his big crate, and he sought the safety and comfort of it and his ‘corn.

He was in a lot of pain. Of course, I called Dr. Rita, who was able to see him immediately. After her examination, she determined that he did not seriously re-injure the tear. She started him back on pain meds and we have been restricting some of his activity. We are not doing stairs, so he and I are back to camping out on the living room floor. Plus, we carefully monitor his interactions with Sixx and Uncle Q. We’ll never know what happened. She said it could have been as simple as twisting it when he stood up or tweaking it on the stairs. He goes in for a recheck tomorrow (Monday), and we will be taking things on a week-to-week basis. Thank goodness it was not as severe as it could have been. On the plus side, Dr. Rita said he is regaining his muscle tone.

  1. Beautiful serene card, Ann! Of course, I love all of your creations!
    So sorry about Kia.💕💕💕
Glad you had a fun trip to Seattle to see Brady and Korin.
Prayers for Nueve and Kia. You are such a good Mom, camping in the living room!!
    Hugs and Take care

  2. Ann, I love this card and you are so right about just a note card. I really should use that sentiment more often as it does cover a multitude of reasons. Apart from that gorgeous paper, I love the embossed background and your classic ribbon is the perfect finishing touch. As for Neuve, I hope he’s doing better on his pain meds. The fact that he’s regaining muscle is a really good sign. Hopefully the rest and meds have helped him this week.
    Thanks for rocking my challenge!
    hugs
    jaydee

  3. Beautiful card Ann. Luv everything about it.
Nerve, my thoughts and best wishes are you.
Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable Independence Day
Fireworks have been shooting off here all week into the early morning hours . . .thanks to our neighbors.
Having a very light shower ( mist – a light sprinkle) here. The little bit of rain has helped cool things down a bit. Large 4th of July parade (3 hrs. long)in Arlington tomorrow. They are expecting over 40,000 people to line the streets to watch.

Aww, poor Nueve. When my girl Sadie tore up her knee, we got 4 months into the 6-month recovery time after her surgery when she somehow busted the implant and we had to do it all over again, so Nueve is in much better shape than she was! Once they’ve injured the knee one time, it’s a lot easier to damage it again OR to hurt the other one as it’s trying to compensate for the original injury. I’m sure Nueve will be just fine, the hard part will be keeping him from being too active for a while yet. Hugs to you, I know how hard it is worrying about these fur babies!

  5. Beautiful card!

Nueve, thank you for sharing the pictures of your trip and time with Aunt Kia. Looks like it was very special. Hope your owie is better soon. Harry

  6. Joanne James - The Crafty Owl

I love this card Ann – so much so, I’m going to find a substitute EF and sentiment and recreate it as I don’t have those exact ones to showcase that beautiful DSP pattern! The soft greens are so calming, just beautiful! Your travels sound like they were a lot of fun and I am hoping that Nueve’s setback is just a blip on his road to recovery – he was doing so well. Love those photos too!

  7. Absolutely love the Beautiful Gallery DSP…and what you’ve done with it in this card. All those lovely touches to make it a very special card indeed.

  8. Nueve, don’t lose hope! This is just a little setback. You are a smart dog, so I have faith you will follow Dr. Rita’s advice and will be better very soon!

    Your kitty friend, Butterscotch

  9. I love “just a note” card, too! This is truly a beauty! The pattern is beautiful and the way you framed it with the postage die really makes it stand out. The embossing speaks for itself! And hopefully Nueve will recover (again) soon!

  10. Your card definitely has a vintage feel, Ann. All the layers and elements come together so perfectly too. It’s just gorgeous!

I’m so sorry about Neuve, he has endured so much, and you as well. I do hope there is a time when all this will be behind you and he’ll be healed. Loved seeing the pictures from your trip to Washington. It’s so wonderful you got to see your son, DIL and their sweet old girl.

Take care and have a good week!

  11. Claire Broadwater

Ann, this card is gorgeous! I love the DSP, postage dies and the embossed background! The pearls make is so special.
Nueve has been so busy! So happy you had such a great visit with your son and all your family! I am so sad to hear Nueve had a set back. Prayers and big hugs are coming your way!

  12. The card is beautiful! The dsp is gorgeous and the embossed border really adds an elegant touch to the card!

  13. Elizabeth Stewart

Ann… love your very elegant card! But such a bummer about the setback. I so love Nueve’s journal.

  14. Your card is just beautiful – love the colors. Thanks for the update on Nueve and all the pictures of him and his Auntie Kia. Best wishes for continuing recovery for Nueve. I just love him!

  15. Be still, my heart! This card is just perfect. Great floral image (my favourite of the whole pack), our favourite embossing folder and just an edging of postage stamp. Gorgeous! I hope things are improving with your dog – sound very painful.

  16. I’m sorry to read about Neuve’s setback. I know he is very special to you and Kim
Hoping for better days ahead for all of you

  17. Chris from Pella

First, love the card – you had me at Mossy Meadow. I love using just a note stamps. So glad you got to go to Seattle. I was wondering how Kia was doing. She is still a cutie. Oh Nueve, you need to heal so be careful. I showed Bernie your post and explained all about boxers. No offense, he fell asleep and is making little snort noises.

  18. Bonnielee McGuire

I’m not crying, you’re crying : ( And the card is beautiful!
