The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
For someone who loves the sound of ocean waves crashing on the beach, you would think I would have tons of “Beach-y Stamps”. I really don’t. However, I remembered I had this cute little stamp called “Best Friends” (Cornish Heritage Farms) I had received while I was a member of Splitcoaststampers Dirty Dozen Design Team many years ago. Now seemed like a good time to ink it up. I paper pieced this little sweetie’s sun hat and bathing suit from a piece of Subtles Painted Patterns designer paper. I couldn’t help but bedazzle the flowers on her suit with rhinestones, while her hat received a Sunset Shimmer Vellum ribbon around the crown and an adhesive backed Blooms accent. Even the lucky pup has a paper pieced collar and a rhinestone. Blends were used to color the Pool Party ocean and the Crumb Cake beach. A Rolling Waves die cut added a frothy sea foam. The beach scene is framed in an arch created using a retired Everyday Arches die. Although the color does not show up, the little dots are pink foil. Yep, I LOVE Stampin’ Up!’s new Stampin’ Hot Foil System. All that was needed was to add the perfect sentiment from the Summer Happiness stamp set. And yep, in my mind, I made sure our little bathing beauty and her pup have lots of sunscreen!

Nueve
Nueve was hospitalized Friday night. He took a serious turn for the worse and his vet immediately called Iowa State University’s small animal hospital. Dr. Rita had the day off, but her associates, Dr. Brooke and Dr. Shane, readied him for the over 3-hour trip to Ames. Iowa State’s vet school and their associated hospital is one of the premiere facilities in the Midwest. Nueve is bleeding internally and they are struggling to find the source and cause of the bleeding. He received a transfusion to help alleviate the strain on his heart. Leaving him behind was one the most difficult things I have ever had to do. He likely would have crashed during the night had we not made the decision to get him there as fast as we could. But even as sick as he is, Nueve is still such a good boy. The emergency team said he is one of the sweetest dogs they have worked with.
My husband, Kim, and I arrived back home at 1:00 AM Saturday morning (the morning I am typing this). There were things to take care of here before we head back up to Ames today. Because we rushed straight out from our local vet, we had no change of clothes, no prescription meds with us. This blog post, which you are now reading, had not been written. Flowers needed to be watered and overnight bags needed to be packed. His emergency vets said we could spend the night there, but sadly we had to come home for meds and clothes. They said he would be sleeping and they would take great care of him while we were at home. I have to give a huge shout-out to our great friend, Rose. I called her in tears, practically incoherent, and asked her if she could pick up Uncle Q and Sixx, whom we had left at our home. She dropped everything and made the hour and a half drive from her home to pick them and their food up. She made certain everything was turned off and the doors were locked. They will stay with her as long as needed.
Iowa State called me early this morning for an update. Nueve is stable and has been transferred from the Emergency Care Unit to Internal Medicine. A sweet 4th year vet student, Maggie, is his companion for the day. She is already bonding with him and took him on a short walk this morning. She said he was showing off his show dog gait for her. Nueve will be undergoing a battery of diagnostic tests over the next fe days. I’ve answered many, many questions over the phone this morning to see if I can add any insight as to why this happened. In the meantime, we continue to pray for a positive outcome. They have determined he had a major gastrointestinal bleed. Now they have to solve the mystery as to what is causing it.
