Something Old, Something New

You might think from reading today’s title that today’s card is a wedding card. Surprise! The answer is “nope”! It’s a card that does exactly as the name implies. It does indeed feature something old and something new, but it’s from my stamping stash. It’s Sunday and time to play with The Paper Players.

This week the incredible Joanne is hosting our theme challenge. What fun she has in store for us with the theme of Something Old, Something New! She is asking us to pair a new craft item with an old craft item. I used a variety of retired dies, pairing them with gorgeous new paper called Beautiful Gallery. This paper will be available on May 6th, when the new Annual Catalog goes live. I can’t wait to see your something old and something new!

I LOVE Joanne’s challenge! Sometimes I feel guilty using retired products on a card, but I am a firm believer that if you genuinely love a product, there is no need to hide it away in a drawer. By all means, use it! How fun it is to pair those beloved products with something new. In my case, I pulled out this simple image of a house from one of my favorite designer series paper found in the new 2025 – 2026 Annual Catalog called Beautiful Gallery. Older products I used included the In the Woods and Horse & Sleigh dies for the trees, which were die cut from one of my favorite papers from the past, Distressed Gold. The lovely subtle texture was achieved with the retired Tasteful Textile embossing folder. It has always been one of my favorites and so is the retired Double Oval Punch, which makes punching out sentiments a breeze! It was great pulling these old war horses out of the stable for another ride!

Hey, Mom’s Friends! It’s me, Nueve! I have some good news to share! I had my 9-week checkup with Doc Rita on Wednesday. She said my knee joint was strong and stable. BUT I am not cured yet.

Mom explained that now the hard part starts. We have to get my musskels stronger or else I could re-hurt my leg again. When I couldn’t do very much, my musskels disappeared. I don’t know where they went. This is my owie hind leg, and my once beautiful Boxer behind has no musskels. But Doc Rita told Mom I could start walking up and down hills. I can also do sits and downs. Doc Rita calls them “doggie push-ups”.

I still cannot run and play. Uncle Q knows that makes me sad, so he tries to make me feel better by laying near me.

I also have my ‘corns to cheer me up and keep me company!

Plus I got a special gift from one of Mom’s stamping friends to make me feel better. It’s my very own Boxer puppy!

Doc Rita said Mom and I still need to be patient. I still can’t run. I still can’t play with Sixxy and Uncle Q. I still can’t go up and down stairs. Mom is still sleeping on the floor in the living room so we can all cuddle with her. But I know that with Mom by my side, I will get better.

Having faith in those who love me and following their directions is part of my job. I am a Working Dog. I am Good Boy Nueve!

What a beautiful blend of old and new. I love this paper!! My suite will be here this week and I just cannot wait to play with it, GREAT NEWS for Nueve!!! I am certain with you guiding him he will be good as new in no time!!!

  2. Anne, I love the way you placed the die cut leaves on either side of that gorgeous DSP. You showcased these elements beautifully to produce another gorgeous card. As for Neuve – great news. Yes, the hard work comes now, but he is so going to enjoy being able to do some exercise again!

  3. What a great way to use patterned paper to create a scene. The use of the tree dies worked very well here. – Nueve you are a very handsome dog, hoping you heal up soon and get those muscles back in shape.

  4. Really loving that card! Nueve is a very fortunate family member that his “Mom” would sleep on the floor with him. 🙂

  5. I don’t think we should feel guilty for mixing our older, much loved items with newer purchases Ann – which was what inspired my theme this week! Pairing the two can present opportunities to create something unique and lovely. Case in point: those trees frame that sketched scene beautifully!

A lovely new way to use that Beautiful Gallery DSP! Thank you so much for the inspiration…and I even have those tree dies! Nueve, you are indeed a good boy! I know it must be hard not to run and play right now, but it will pay off in the end. Your human mom is the best caregiver you could have! Butterscotch thinks you’re looking very handsome!

I love this scene and I was planning to create something with these papers just today, so your card is definitely inspirational! Love the embossing as well as those wonderful trees!

  8. What a beautiful way to showcase the DSP. The framing is gorgeous with the textured panel, the strongly coloured frame and then the trees to add perspective. Have a lovely week. 🙂

Oh Ann, I just love this lovely scene! That DSP is fabulous and I think I might need to add that to my stash. I love the trees and gorgeous embossing!
BUT–the best news of all is on Nueve’s healing! He just has to stay calm a little longer and all will be right in his world. And Mama’s, too! I love all the pictures. They made me smile! He is a GOOD BOY!

  10. Ann, I ordered this DSP just for that particular scene. I love your card and will undoubtedly be CASEing it. The buildings remind me of my late husband’s boyhood home on Main Street in Castleton-on-Hudson, NY. I am so relieved to here Nueve had a good report. I can sense he will be a good boy and mind his momma. Praying for his muscles to rejuvenate so that he can finally play with his relatives again. How sweet of your stamping friend to send that pillow. TFS.

  11. Ann, as always you come up with the most beautiful cards
    Such lovely DSP.
I have been using some of my older stamps that I have had for years and making thank you note cards for my sister-in-law. She likes sending out cards so making a variety. Sometimes it’s nice to dust off some of them older stamps in making cards for any occasion. Some I had that I forgotten about.
Nueve; you sweet thing. Glad to hear that you are getting better

    Love your card.

Great news Nueve and Ann. Ted made it through Tulip Time but he isn’t doing real well all the time. Slow and steady big guy!

  13. Hello Ann; What a terrific way to use the Beautiful Gallery DSP. I love this collection and have been sparingly using it on only the choice cards. Of course, your ideas are always some of the best. Thanks, Ann, and have a beautiful Sunday.

Beautiful. Love the trees in front! Sending hope for Nueve’s Boxer behind. Lol
