It’s time for the Festive Friday Challenge, where every challenge is a party! For FF0013, we are celebrating State Fairs with a Turquoise twist. You can create a card to celebrate State Fairs, or you can create a card or project that has the color turquoise, or you can combine both! Whatever way you decide to create is fine with us! We would love to have you play along!

State Fair Pop Up Card

pop-up cardI live in Iowa, home of one of the greatest state fairs in the nation.  Therefore, it should come as no surprise that I would select the State Fair option. The Iowa State Fair is known as “America’s classic state fair,” and has inspired books, movies, and a Broadway musical. Although it is well-known for its amazing butter cow sculpture, which could butter an estimated 19, 200 pieces of toast, the Iowa State Fair also boasts fabulous livestock competitions, grandstand entertainment and a whopping 82 different fried foods on a stick.

I would have loved to have created a butter cow card, but alas, I have no cow stamps in my collection. In addition, I have no fried food on a stick images either.  SO, I opted to create a roller coaster pop-up card using the Let the Good Times Roll stamp set and Thrill Ride Pop-Up Thinlits to celebrate the Midway. And let me tell you…the good times do roll at the Iowa State Fair! I hope you enjoy today’s card.

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips

I had a blast creating this pop-up card.  As you can see, there were a ton of pieces to die cut from a multitude of card stocks, including all of the little flags and banners.

Flags and banners were created from Real Red, Daffodil Delight, Blueberry Bushel, and Pumpkin Pie card stocks. The bushes were stamped in Tranquil Tide, while the sun was stamped in Daffodil Delight ink onto Daffodil Delight card stock.  The cars were stamped in Blueberry Bushel, Pumpkin Pie, Lovely Lipstick, Daffodil Delight, and Pool Party.  Yep, there was a lot of stamping and die cutting.

The little concession cart was actually stamped 4 times in 4 different colors and paper pieced. Yep, there was a lot of cutting and stamping going on with this card.  But isn’t it an adorable card?  It was well worth the time and effort.

The Challenge Twists

  1. Adorable card. Though I must confess, I am terrified of roller coasters.

  2. Such fun! I love your colors–their brightness reminds me of the lights at the state fair. Great card–great details and great inspiration! TFS.

  3. Your card is amazing! The dies, stamps, colors and your creativity are perfect for a state fair. I can see that you put lots of time into your beautiful card. Smile BIG! 🙂

  4. Oops, sorry for the double comment.

Our state fair is a great state fair!!! Your tribute to the carnival rides is the best complete with the lemon shake up stand. Love all the colors and excitement to your card. What a great card for the challenge. My favorite stick food is the pork chop from the pork producers tent. I can’t even begin to think about fried candy bars let alone fried butter. Speaking of butter, I wonder how the pig stamps would look done in yellow like butter for a card…….

  6. Oh my goodness!! What a fun card. You do such a fantastic work of art. Love this card and yes, you deserve Grand Champion.

  7. Oh my goodness!! What a fun card. You do such a fantastic work of art. Love this card.

  8. Wow, Wow, Wow!!! Love this card. You went above and beyond on this, Ann.

  9. Precious, Ann! An adorable card and what a lot of thought and work. As debra said, “you deserve a ribbon for it” ! You could go into construction work but I prefer dogs! : ) : )

  10. That is absolutely darling! That would be a fitting card for all ages! When I lived in DesMoines – I agree, Iowa is a great state for fairs. Thanks for creating the little bit of whimsy! That took some time! And it shows. Seems like when I give cards, more people comment about the amount of time it must have taken, as much or more than the design. But I always appreciate whatever they say – just like I know you do too!

  11. WOW Ann! Your state fair card should win a blue ribbon!!
