Summer Holiday at the Seashore

It’s Sunday, and time to play with The Paper Players! This week’s challenge is a theme challenge hosted by the talented JaydeeSummer Holiday! I know that this Iowa gal would like nothing better than to spend her summer holiday at the seashore. Enjoy today’s summery card.

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips:  Midnight Muse and Whisper White
This finished card measures 5-1/2″ wide by 4-1/4″ long.

  • Bling! What better way to accent a sentiment than with a bit of bling! A Starfish from By the Seashore, with a single Rhinestone, draws the focus right to the sentiment.  Although I will never make it to the seashore, I can certainly Dream about it!
  • Texture! That’s the name of the retired Jumbo Stampin’ Around Wheel that I used to create the delicious Midnight Muse stippling behind the shells.  Although I like to purge retired stamps, every once in awhile an image is such a classic that it begs to live at my house forever.  That’s the way it was with the Texture wheel.  (By the way, I will be listing the sets I have for sale in a few weeks.)
  • Driftwood! Why did I elect to use the Woodgrain Textured Impressions Embossing Folder for the background of today’s card?  To represent driftwood! To make the design stand out, I rolled the retired Texture Stampin’ Wheel right over the top!
  • Gumball! Gumball Green edging, created with the Finishing Touches Edgelits, adds a refreshing “pop” of color!

Storm Damage

Like most of the Midwest, we have experienced our share of severe thunderstorms recently.  On Thursday, the Twins, Lexi and I headed to the basement as 80 mph winds blew down trees and power lines.  We survived unscathed, but our neighbor was not so lucky, as this picture attests. Underneath the limb is a freestanding basketball hoop.

Lexi the Schnauzer

And finally, I leave you with a picture of Lexi doing her impression of a schnauzer.  She is indeed a little character.  I think she did a great job.  What about you?

As always, your comments are important to me.  Won’t you please let me know what you think of today’s card? And remember, if you ever have a question about the cards I create or the techniques I use, I am only an email away! Until next time…

  1. Love this beachy card, Ann! Makes me wish I was on vacation already. 🙂

Love the schnauzer imitation! Tell your Lexi that my Lexi says she could pass easily! 🙂

  2. Hello, I really love your card, I made one, almost the same, but only after I saw yours 😉
    Thank you for sharing it.

  3. Ann, I SO enjoyed your summery card. I love the sandy background you created for those beautifully cut out elements. I also love that you kept to a crisp blue and white color scheme. Reminded me of Nantucket!
    Gorgeous
    Hugs

  4. Great card Ann. Love what you did with the wood background. You are so creative!

  5. Great card! And your dog looks just like ours!!! So funny!

  7. Love your Summer Seashore card and the wood grain really does make one think of driftwood! Love that Texture wheel, too. Hugs 🙂 Sandy

  8. Love the “driftwood” effect in the back! Very pretty card!

  9. I really love your card! The Midnight Muse with the Gumball edging is perfect! 🙂

  10. First of all, so glad to hear that you and the pups and your home escaped any storm damage…but so sorry for your neighbor(s)! Your card is wonderful…whodathunk of using the woodgrain EF behind the Sea shells, etc. Great idea!

  11. Yes, those storms were too much all over and too many nights in a row. I have a nephew in the St. Louis area, who was just a mile from all the tornado damage. It was a cool morning here and only 64 out now. I would like some sunshine please. Here’s to a great week for all of you.

  12. Beautiful card.

Love you stories about your dogs. Always look forward to your posts.

  13. What a great beach-y card! I love the texture wheel with it, and I love the pop of green. Now, off to dream about the beach!

  14. Gorgeous, Ann! I can feel the ocean breeze right through the screen. Love the driftwood and the swirls of pearls!

  15. Love your beautiful card, Ann! Sadly I have never seen the ocean, but I imagine it would be wonderful. Maybe someday!

  16. I agree with Linda – I thought of the white washed beach cottage theme with this wonderful card! Of course I just looked at an issue of Country Life with the same in it. Yesterday we went to Knoxville and went over the dam – there was lots of driftwood ashore so I got the connection right away. Love your take on it. Then those classic pearls are just perfect!

Love the imitation Lexi! Maybe I should print that out to keep a smile on my face!

I knew you had lots more wind than we did. Too much rain for us though our basement is dry. Weather, if it isn’t a drought or fire, there is tornadoes and flooding. Is there any perfect place?

  17. Nice card for the Paper Players.

Our sirens went off the other day and announced 80 mph winds would hit in 10 minutes. We gathered everything in but nothing happened other than rain. We were fortunate!

Lexi is a very funny dog!

  18. This is just lovely! I love the monochromatic natural theme you have going here. I am SO glad you are safe & sound, too! Scary stuff!

  19. I really love your card. Especially thetextured background and the woodgrain embossing…you gave this card the right feel.

  20. Ack! I loooooove this! So stylish and clean …wow, wow, wow! You knocked it outta the park. This set is on my wish list. Which is too long….

  21. Going to “the shore” is a tradition for us! I love the way you used the wood grain EF to make the drift wood background.

  22. I love your card! I have had this set and just haven’t been able to do it justice. Thanks for the ideas!

  23. Ann, your beautiful cards always have just the right touch to make them perfect! This one is no exception, and makes me think of visiting my parents on Cape Cod (I live in California). And as a fellow dog lover, I enjoy your doggie stories; visiting your website makes me feel like I’ve come home! Thanks so much for sharing your creations and a little bit of yourself.

  24. I am so thankful you and your family are safe. Your neighbors were lucky–it could have been much worse.

Love, love, love, your card. The woodgrain and blue are perfect. I love seashells and nautical themes. I guess I have always taken growing up on the shore for granted.

Thanks for sharing Lexi’s fun photo!

  25. Ann great card and love the idea of spending time at the beach! OMG I’ve been traveling like a mad man for work and off again tomorrow for Mexico. I REALLY don’t want to go, but the second quarter is crazy busy for me.
Love Lexi’s impression and the previous post is so sweet. I too send pet sympathy cards when needed. Always so sad to lose a beloved pet. Also LOVED you video, just didn’t have the time to comment from my travels. hugs.

  26. So Beachy! I love this set! Thanks for sharing.

  27. This has the perfect look of a whitewashed summer cottage! Wonderfully beachy! So glad you escaped the worst of the storms- so scary!

  28. Really like the card! The white with the black matting and green is a nice combination….I’ll be trying this soon! Glad you didn’t lose any trees in the storm. My in-laws in Spirit Hollow lost trees, patio furniture, and their grill was damaged. Could have been much worse, though.

  29. Beautiful card Ann ~ love the stipple…too bad this was out before I came into the SU world! I have my favourites that I won’t let go of either, so I get that! Be safe..the weather is crazy out there ~ it’s june and we’re struggling to have summer..feels more like cool spring weather for us!

  30. Great card. I haven’t used a wheel in forever. You make me want to!

This weather we are experiencing all over the country is scary. So glad all is well at your house. I saw that picture of Lexi on Facebook. She is adorable. Have a great Sunday.

  31. Beautiful! Lexi too, but not the storm damage – that’s so scary. You’re welcome to come to my shore any time you’d like!

  32. Really nice card! Love the color combo on it.
Lexi is to cute. So happy you could get a picture of that face to share with us. It made me laugh.
So happy all of you were ok. Some really wicked storms have hit here in the US. I count my blessings that we have not had anything here in my town. There was six tornados that did touch down in our state last week. My heart goes out to all of the people that have suffered from these storms.
    Give the furbabies a hug!
