Hot Chocolate for the Pals

It’s Thursday, and time to play with the Pals at Pals Paper Arts!  This week, we have a trio of  warm and wonderful colors for you:  Riding Hood Red, Crumb Cake, and Very Vanilla.  I decided to ink up the Scentsational Season set and prepare two steaming cups of hot chocolate.  Enjoy!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
This finished card measures 4-1/4″ wide by 5-1/2″ long.

  • Steamy! The Steam image from Scentsational Season was inked in Soft Suede and stamped onto Vellum.  Slits were cut into the Mug images to hold the “vapor” in position.   A Very Vanilla textured circle, layered onto a Riding Hood Red scalloped circle, provides the perfect backdrop.
  • Gingerbread! The Gingerbread Boy was inked in Crumb Cake ink and stamped onto Very Vanilla card stock.  A Riding Hood Red Stampin’ Write Marker was used to decorate him, as were Basic Pearls.
  • Mmm…Mmm…What a Mug! The snowflake pattern on the Riding Hood Red Mug cried out for pearls.  How could I resist.  And the hot chocolate?  It is courtesy of a Chocolate Chip Stampin’ Write Marker!
  • My mistakes!  This card took me forever to complete.  My original concept was to create my own Designer Series Paper with an array of Mittens from Make a Mitten.  So I stamped.  And I snipped.  And I embossed. And I adhered.  And I photographed.  And I was unhappy.  The moment I took everything apart and substituted the Riding Hood Red pattern from the Fan Fair collection, I knew I had made the right decision.

Muffy Sparkles and Lexi is Another Story

Since so many of you have emailed, wondering how the girls did at the Sioux Falls, SD show this past weekend, I decided to give you a quick update.  I know Muffy Lin is just itching to get her paws on the computer and give you the full story.  Therefore,  I will keep it brief.  Muffy did a fabulous job and showed her very best. She won her classes. Her biggest win was Reserve Winners, which once again was quite an accomplishment, since this was a “major” show.  She absolutely sparkles when she is in the ring.  But little Lexi Lou was quite a different story.  The judges all agreed that she was adorable, and that she put on quite a show.  The more the judges and her handler laughed at her antics in the ring, the more she “performed”.  We are in for quite the journey with this wild child.  I hope you will join me for the ride!

My Thoughts Are with You

My thoughts are with my stamping friends out east who are dealing directly or indirectly with the devastation wrought by Sandy.  Several of you have checked in with me to let me know that you are safe.  I will keep you in my thoughts.  If there is anything that I can do from across the miles, remember that I am here for you,

As always, your comments are important to me.  Won’t you please let me know what you think of today’s card?  Which version did you prefer…mittens or DSP?  Of course, if you ever have any questions about the cards I create or the techniques that I use, I am only an email away.  Until next time…

  1. Loving this! Feels just right on a crisp day like today. Quick question, did you use a die for the RHR scallop circle behind the textured 3″ circle? If so, which one? Thank you 🙂

  2. Dear Ann.. I know, many MANY have said it before. But I so love this card. What a beauty. You have such a talent. Love all your work.
    Inky hugs, Pauline

  3. Just love the DSP version! It’s perfect. I love how you embossed the vanilla circle. I love how you layered the mugs with the gingerbread man. The pearls… etc. This card really spoke to me. Thanks for the update on the girls.

  4. Adorable card Ann! The mittens are a good idea but maybe a little lighter. I like the DSP better. Cute, cute card.

  5. brilliant use of vellum for the steam. your card is a masterpiece, right down to the red stitching on the gingerbread man!

  6. Ann, you are killing me! I’m gonna need that sentiment stamp!! 🙂

  7. That addition of the steam on the vellum had me swooning from the moment I saw it! You are indeed amazing with the things you come up with!

  8. I know I say this alot, but this might be one of my fav stamps this year. 🙂

  9. Love this….how did I miss it? So warm & inviting!

  10. That card is adorable! Love the parchment “steam”..

  11. HELLO Ann!!!!! I haven’t visited in forever (sorry!!), but I want to thank you for remembering us on the East Coast and praying for us. I am alittle disappointed SU hasn’t remembered us in the wake of this horrible disaster! My family and I are safe, just feeling alot of ‘survivors guilt’, but again thank you for your thoughts!
Gorgeous cards as always!! Miss you!

Miss you!

  13. Ann, everything about this card has absolutely delighted me. The stamping on the vellum is the zinger, for sure, but every element about the design is so carefully chosen. Wow! Thanks for this card.

  14. Love the card, perfect for those cold winter days ahead

  15. I absolutely love your card. I had to pop over to tell you. You obviously put tons of work into it with the embellishments and the paper pieces, the vellum for the steam!!! and the square lattice embossing folder has never looked good to me on anything until this card! FANTASTIC!

  16. This is a gorgeous card! I like both versions. Thanks for sharing how the girls did. Congrats to Muffy! I am sure it was quite a sight to watch Miss Lexi. 🙂

  17. It’s a fact that cookies decorated with pearls are always better! I love this, Ann! Congrats to Muffy and sounds like Lexi had a fun time, too!

  18. Love this card Ann. Love the clever way you added the “steam”. And I really like the designer paper over the mittens. So happy that Muffy is doing so well. Would love to see Lexi in the ring!!

  19. Two totally ‘yummy’ cards. Hot chocolate and cookies during a cold winter night 🙂

The DSP version really made me think of hot chocolate. The mitten version is so cute and reminds me of childhood.

Congrats to Miss Muffy! Lexi, I’m certain you were just darling in the ring.

We were lucky and survived Sandy relatively unscathed. The damage in NY & NJ is unbelieveable.

  20. Hello Ann. 🙂 I have missed coming here to see your amazing creations, and see what’s new with you.

I see Lexi is still being an imp, and a cute one at that. 😉

Your card is adorable! I prefer the first version better, because the background paper is very muted, letting those steaming mugs take center stage.

I escaped unscathed from Hurricane Sandy. I’m 50 miles from the South Jersey shoreline, and we expected far worse here. We’re counting our blessings.

  21. I love your card!! I have made several cards using this stamp set-but I love the vellium for the steam!! I can almost taste the hot chocolate!! Beautiful card……

  22. Super cute and I love all the details!

  23. I absolutely loved your card today, with the vellum steam and the darling gingerbread boy. Wonderful news about Muffy, she’s such a seasoned hand now. Sounds like little Lexi was the entertainment for a moment, no doubt she will be the star one day!

  24. What a great card and idea. I have this set and need to get started using it. Thanks again for your help the other day. Congrats to Muffy. Lexi sounds so much like my son–always a great show, but into mischief all the time–lol.Dar

  25. Warm and cozy and oh so cute! Love the pearls on the gingerbread man!

  26. Very pretty card. The steam on vellum is a great idea and I do like that you changed to the Fan Fair designer paper.

  27. Sweet card! Love the gingerbread, mittens, and vellum for the steam! Big congrats to Muffy!

  28. Love the colours, your creation is beautiful. I love the idea of your own background paper made with the mittens but do think that it makes the card look a bit busy. The DSP from the Fan Fair collection is just perfect. And the best news, I have everything I need to make my own – yay!!

  29. This card is hot stuff! I simply love it! This is one of my favorite sets. As much as I love mittens, I think I do like the fanfare paper better as it isn’t so bold but complements the mugs and little gingerbread guy. Use the mittens background on something else though! I was thinking about coloring the pearls black for the gingerbread man though. Wonderful card!

As far as the girls, well Lexi is just being a bit independent I guess. Way to go Muffy!

    Chris R. from Iowa

  30. Love the layout and those cute cups of hot cocoa! Great thinking on the steam. I love the card you showcased, but I totally understand about taking a card apart and making it different. We are our own worse critics!

Congrats to Muffy, she is on her way, I am sure Lexie will be there soon.

  31. Oh my Ann, that is such a gorgeous card. Love them colors

  32. Ann Love love love this card.I really love to tuck the steam in the cup, but YOU putting it on vellum is super amazing! Love that.
Love your pearl button/eyes on the gingerman too. I love how your card turned out but I think both were just fine. Sometimes you get too close to the work and when you don’t like it, you just don’t like it.

  33. Two great cards! Love how you used the vellum for the “steam”. I prefer the DSP card only because it’s a cleaner look, I think the mittens compete too much with the focal images.

    Congrats to Muffy!

  34. Perfect colors for the cards you made. I can’t pick a favorite….love them both!

Congratulations to Muffy and every family has to have a “wild child”. Would love to have seen Lexi Lou “performing”. 🙂

My thoughts are sure with those who live in those hard hit areas in the East. It’s terrible what they are going through. So much loss!

  35. I like the mittens best, but the ds paper does give a cleaner look. I love how you did the steam! And hearing about the girls. Yes, Lexi is the child who will make you laugh and throw up your hands at the same time. What’s a mother to do?

  36. The “steam” made from vellum is genius. Looks almost real. Love the pearls on the gingerbread man; makes him adorable. Although I like the idea of mittens in the background, they compete with the focal point for attention. Maybe if they were in a more neutral, or lighter, colour… The card with the DSP is absolute perfection. I’ve been resisting getting this stamp set with the framelits but this card has got me rethinking. And it’s your vellum “steam” and pearly gingerbread man that may ultimately push me off the fence. 🙂 Doris

  37. I like them both, but I see “fighting” over that one Gingerbread cookie!! Very clever steam rising, too, Ann!

  38. Your card is lovely. Would be hard to choose any single card you have done as a favourite. I love them all. Thanks so much for jotting down the supplies and numbers for future reference.

  39. Love it, love it, love it!

  40. Wait, where is Muffy’s post?

  41. I love your card. I like the mitten background but I would not take that much time to do it. I like the dsp background also. Congrats to Muffy but will be waiting for Lexi stories.

  42. Wow just amazing. How can you be so creative? Love the cards.

  43. Mmmmm cookies and cocoa – I will be right over! Very cozy card – love it! And I knew the Gingerbread Man would have pearls!

  44. Okay, now I feel the need to start baking, especially with the cooler temps! Your card is so cute and I love the pearls on the Gingerbread “man”!

  45. Very cute! Awesome layout and I love the steam stamped on vellum.

  46. I love this card as is the case with all your cards. I have been stamping the gingerbread boy in a darker ink but really like your version better. As a new stamper, your cards challenge me and I think I am going to give the vellum steam a try. Appreciate the how to’s.

  47. Ann, without a doubt, that is the prettiest Christmas card I have seen so far!! Well done, love everything about it!

  48. Wonderful card. Appreciate the “how to” info. Thanks for sharing your talent!

  49. Oh my goodness, this is the most beautiful card I’ve seen in a long time (and I see a lot of beautiful cards every day between Splitcoast Stampers and blogs)! I love your vellum steam…marvelous. Great job creating your own background paper with the mittens. It’s great but I think I like the other card the best. The smaller pattern allows the mugs and gingerbread man to stand out better. Both are adorable…thanks for sharing! Yay to the Boxer babies!

  50. I’ve never commented before but I have to tell you that you blow me away with your cards. They are always beautiful. I have cased some of them. I like the one with DSP but the other one is cute to. Just a little to busy for me. Thanks for all the cards that you post.

  51. This card has a warm and cozy feel. The mittens were a cute idea… but do make the card very busy. Maybe they could be in crumb cake as the background? The velum steam was a good choice for sure! Thanks for all the ideas.

  52. Absolutely adorable card! I love it!!!!! I will now have to buy everything to make it…sigh.
Wow way to go Muffy! She is quite the girl. So Lexi has a little growing up to do I would say. Brody was that way too. I don’t remember Muffy being like that…was she?
Anyway thanks for sharing.I just love your card and of course the updates on your show girls.

  53. They are both delightful! I am actually really impressed with the handmade DSP..I think it’s beautiful. Love the way the scalloped circle echoes the circles in the design paper…and the sweet mugs of cocoa with the vellum steam coming out of them…fabulous!

  54. I love your card. Can’t wait to case it. Congrats to Muffy. Loved your story about Lexi. She will do fine. You have to be young when you can be. We don’t have any power but all are good and that is the main thing. I am in PA where I do have heat and power. I may not be able to go home for a week or more. None of my children have power either but they are all safe. My son and his family are here in PA with us. My prayers are with all those who lost so much more than power.

  55. Delightful! Love it! Hot cocoa and gingerbread cookies sounds like a nice treat. Love how you put the steam on vellum .

    Congrats to Muffy!
