Contempo Waffle for The Paper Players

Every Sunday, The Paper Players reveal their newest challenge, and this week is no different! Are you ready for Clean and Simple? Clean and Simple is hardly ever simple for me. I usually tend to over-analyze things, and my cards are no different. However, today’s card can be created in a relatively short amount of time. Plus, it showcases Stampin’ Up!’s new Waffle Paper and the delightful Contempo Christmas stamp set. Enjoy a “Contempo Waffle” this morning!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips:

  • Add texture in no time at all! It literally take less than a minute to zip a Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and card stock through the Big Shot. For this card, Very Vanilla card stock and Petals-a-Plenty were paired together!
  • Shapes add interest to your image mat! Once again, Mr. Big Shot was my friend as I quickly popped out an oval using the Ovals Originals Die.
  • Heat embossing doesn’t have to be “hate” embossing! Clean-up is a snap when you use the Powder Pals! I just brushed over the surface of my card stock with an Embossing Buddy, stamped my Contempo Christmas “tree” image in VersaMark ink, positioned my card stock over the Powder Pal, and sprinkled a little Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder over the image. The excess powder was funnelled directly from the Powder Pal back into the original container. Hint: Before using the Heat Tool, remember to move your jar of embossing powder out of harm’s way!
  • Perk it up with Pearls! How easy it is to “glam” up the tree with Basic Pearls! I wish I could decorate my own tree this quickly!
  • New Product! Waffles aren’t just for eating! A strip of Gold Waffle Paper makes an instant ruffle around the oval image. I simply adhered it to the back of card stock with SNAIL Adhesive.
  • Icing on the Cake! Very Vanilla Satin Ribbon, like all of Stampin’ Up!’s satin ribbons, makes a fabulous bow!

Waffle Paper certainly adds a different aspect to this card. And the nice thing is that it is quick to apply. My biggest problem with it was keeping my ruffle even…I don’t see straight, and that is a problem for a card maker! But that is my problem…not a problem with the paper itself!

I hope that you enjoyed my second attempt at Clean and Simple this week! Please leave me a comment to let me know what you think. And please…don’t hesitate to email me if you have questions about the cards that I create or the techniques that I use. And a special message to my fellow Iowan Chris…please send me your email address and I will send you instructions. Until next time…

The Paper Players Sneak Peak

A new Paper Players challenge will go live this Sunday. But there is still time to play in this week’s “Anything Goes” challenge. You have until 6:00 PST today (Saturday) to upload ANY of your favorite paper projects whether they be 3D, a scrapbook page or a card…”Anything Goes!” However, your project does need to be something newly created during this week…and can be a project for another challenge…such as the Pals Paper Arts “Clean and Simple Pearl Challenge”! How is that for supporting both of my Design Teams! I am truly blessed to be creating alongside such talented stampers…they inspire the best in all of us!

Of course with my sneak peek you get a glimpse of almost every element on the card! How is that for a peek!

Puppy Gift

A special thank you goes to my stampin’ friend, Shirley! Although Shirley and I have never met face to face, rarely a week goes by that we don’t email several times. Shirley followed the story of our beloved Missy the Boxer, and knew that the Schachs would someday accept a new little one into our midst. Just as soon as she knew we were expecting “Muffy”, she sent her this little welcoming gift! Isn’t it just too cute?

Shirley’s daughter teaches an obedience class for the Paducah (KY) Kennel Club. Shirley whipped these up for each of the “graduates”. It will actually hold four medium Milk Bones. I think that Shirley did a “grrrrrrrreat” job! Something tells me that little “Muffy the Boxer” could possibly get a wee bit spoiled. We’ll see!

Join me next time for The Paper Players challenge! I know that you will love it! And remember, don’t hesitate to email me if you have any questions about the cards that I make or the techniques that I use! Until next time…

My Attempts at Brayering

When one thinks of brayering, the name Michelle Zindorf immediately comes to mind. In my opinion, no one does it better. That is why, when I found out that she would be offering her brayering workshop relatively close-by, I knew I had to attend. Michelle is an excellent instructor, and both the morning and afternoon sessions just flew by! She took us through what we needed to do step-by-step, and demonstrated each technique. We completed six cards during that time, and I learned that with brayering there is a distinct learning curve, and practice is definitely needed! And don’t you just love the trees from the Plant Hope stamp set? I was thrilled that it was one of the stamp sets we used.

In the card above, we practiced our masking techniques using Post-It Notes. A white Signo gel pen was used to delineate the cliff. The unique size of this card allows it to fit perfectly into a business size envelope!

In this card, we practiced placing the moon’s reflection into water. I would never have thought to use Melon Mambo for a water scene, yet it works for Michelle’s design. For more information about brayering, workshops, and tips, check out Michelle’s blog. I guarantee that you will be amazed! And if you have the opportunity to attend one of her classes, you will not be disappointed.

Play at the PPA
Don’t forget the Clean and Simple “Add a Pearl” challenge at Pals Paper Arts! So far the entries have been inspiring! I love seeing all of the different ways you can use pearls on a design!

One Day Left—The Bling is On Me!
Everyone knows I love to add bling to my cards! In celebration of the Holiday Mini, anyone placing a $75 on-line order (before shipping and taxes),will receive a package of Basic Pearls. Well, dear readers, I am glad that I learned some brayering basics. I must say I am looking forward to putting my own spin on the these techniques. I think a little texture and some spritzing could be in order. And perhaps some bling and some smooching. And oh…I don’t want to forget my color spritzer tool! I can’t wait! Until next time…
