Plant Hope for the PPA

It’s time for the Pals Paper Arts Celebrity Color Challenge. This week our guest designer is none other than the talented Silke Ledlow! If you could not tell from my card, this week’s colors are Daffodil Delight, Basic Gray, and Poppy Parade. Daffodil Delight and Poppy Parade are two colors that I equate more with summer than fall, yet I was pleasantly surprised at how well they worked with my favorite fall set from the Holiday Mini….French Foliage. Don’t have these exact three colors in your arsenal? Don’t fret! Feel free to substitute with any colors of similar hue. The important thing is to have fun playing along with the Pals!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips:

  • In a pickle about how to combine brights and neutrals? Try using the neutral as your card base and as an accent! With this card, I used a Basic Gray card base, while the “Aspen Leaf” from French Foliage image was inked and stamped in Basic Gray.
  • Want to add interest to a simple layout? Try texture! After randomly stamping the leaves from French Foliage onto Very Vanilla card stock, I zipped it through the Big Shot along with the Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.
  • Tired of ho-hum sentiments? Layer the labels! The sentiment from Plant Hope was inked in Basic Gray, stamped onto Very Vanilla, and punched out with the Decorative Label Punch. A second Decorative Label was punched from Poppy Parade. After cutting it horizontally, it was adhered to the back of the sentiment. Quick and easy!
  • It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that bling! Three Poppy Parade Glimmer Brads in the lower right corner helps to anchor the card, and adds just the right amount of bling.
I will be the first to tell you that I found these colors challenging at this time of the year! However, it was fun to stray away from my usual vintage and distressed style, and produce something a little more classic. I hope that you enjoyed it for a change. I do think it is important that as card makers, we stretch ourselves.
Those crazy puppies are running me ragged! The house looks like a war zone, and I find very little “me” time…It’s always Muffy and Brody time! The two have to be separated until Muffy heals from her crate accident, so I have temporarily divided the house into half. Regardless of which half of the house I am in, it’s the wrong half according to the other puppy! However, they are the best little “snuggle bunnies”, and love to sleep in the big bed with mom and dad. They take turns, and tonight is Muffy’s night.
Thanks for bearing with me while I struggle to get back into my routine. I miss my daily stamping and blogging. But as they say…they are only little once! And they are growing up so quickly! As always, your comments are important to me, so please let me know what you think of today’s card. And remember, if you ever have any questions about the cards that I create or the techniques that I use, I am only an email away! Until next time…

Christmas Balloon for The Paper Players

It’s “Anything Goes” this week at The Paper Players! Since it is the 5th week of the month, we encourage you to share ANY of your favorite paper projects…scrapbook pages, tags, three dimensional items…and yes, even cards. As I said, “Anything Goes”! However, your project does need to be something newly created during this week…and it can even be a project for another challenge. The main rule here is to have fun and to challenge yourself! I opted for a Christmas card which showcases the Deck the Hall Designer Series Paper! I hope that you enjoy my “Christmas Balloon”!The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips:

  • Punch Power! Balloons are so easy to create with the 2″ x 1-3/8″ Oval Punch. I simply punched five ovals using various patterns from Deck the Halls. To add depth and dimension, the top three were adhered to ovals punched from the cardboard that comes with the paper! After adhering to the cardboard, the edges were rounded with a Sanding Block and distressed with Soft Suede ink.
  • Layer your Top Notes! The Top Note Die and Big Shot were used to create two die cuts, one from Deck the Halls Designer Paper, the second from Soft Suede card stock. Paper Snips were used to trim the patterned Top Note at the perforation lines.
  • Snip! Snip! The “Balloon Gondola” from Sweet Centers was stamped in VersaMark and heat embossed using Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. It was then snipped out with Paper Snips and adhered to the Top Note base.
  • It all in the details! Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding is adorned with three Basic Pearls. An Antique Brad accents the Fan-Fold Flower.
  • Finish with a kiss! Gold Glow Smooch Spritz adds a beautiful patina to the entire card!

The inspiration for this card was a card that I originally created for the Splitcoaststampers Dirty Dozen. It was my favorite for the “Up in the Air” gallery. I will be sharing this card with you soon. I can hardly wait to see what you create for this week’s challenge…and don’t forget…”Anything Goes”! Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think about today’s card. And as always, if you ever have any questions about the cards that I create or the techniques that I use, I am only an email away! Until next time…
