Buried Treasure…Horizontal Image Layout

It’s Buried Treasure time…a time where I revisit, for one reason or another, a card from my archives.  Today’s card first appeared on The Stampin’ Schach back on June 19,  2009 with THIS post. What drew me back to this card?  The layout.  I was looking for a layout to use with a certain stamp set, and I thought this one would be a natural.  Check back Tuesday to see my updated version.  I am so excited for you to see it!

Layout Options: This layout is perfect for cards where you wish to showcase horizontal images. This is also a perfect layout for showcasing coordinating patterns of Designer Series Paper. From the Holiday Mini, Festive and Fun is a perfect stamp set choice. From the Idea Book and Catalog, Holiday Lineup and Scaredy Cat would work well.  In addition, think of leaves and pumpkins for fall, and butterflies and flowers for spring!  And with a little tweaking, you can flip this layout for vertical images such as giraffes, lighthouses and trees, too!

Embellishment Updates:  Pearls?  Baker’s Twine? Big Designer Buttons? Border Punches? Depending on the style of your card, Vintage Trinkets, Antique Brads and lace are also great choices for creating a vintage look.
Techniques: Curl the corners of the central image and distress the edges, too! Pull out the Color Spritzer Tool! How beautiful would it be to use the Inlaid Embossing technique on the back panel or one of Stampin’ Up!’s new Textured Impressions Embossing Folders, like Houndstooth!    Just let your imagination soar!
Please join me on Tuesday to see what updates I used!
I hope you enjoyed this card from my past…even though my cardmaking past only goes back to 2009! And I hope that you take the time to examine your card making past to see what Buried Treasure you may have waiting for you. As always, your comments are important to me so let me know what you think about today’s layout…or just say “Hi!” And if you ever have any questions about the cards that I make or the techniques that I use, I am only an email away. Just give me a holler…or email if it’s easier! Until next time…
(Note to lulyg: Please email me about the retired stamp set. I don’t have your email address so I can’t contact you.  Ann)

Poison for the Pals

It’s Thursday and time to play with the Pals at Pals Paper Arts! This week our challenge is one of my favorites…Halloween!  I decided to fore go something cute in lieu of something a little more creepy.  So I inked up the “Poison” sentiment from the new set, “Piece of Poison”, found in the Holiday Mini and pulled out the Pick Your Poison Designer Series Paper with its coordinating Quick Accents. I then set to work brewing up this vintage potion.  I hope you have your antidote ready for this elixir! Enjoy “Poison for the Pals”!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips:  Vintage Halloween

  • Dazzling Details! What could be better than glitter glue to easily add sparkly details! I outlined the flourish on the Pick Your Poison Designer Series Paper with Stampin’ Up!’s new Dazzling Details.  It’s so easy!
  • Pop up the “P”!  After adding Dazzling Details and Cajun Craze highlights, the “P” in the Poison sentiment was snipped out and popped atop Stampin’ Dimensionals.

  • Pearls! The vote is in, and the “eyes” have it! I could not pass up “pearl-eyezing” the Skull, as well as the Antique Brad and card base corners.
  • Rosette! A 1″ x 12″ strip of Pick Your Poison Designer Series Paper was scored every 1/4th of an inch using the fabulous Simply Scored Tool.  A First Edition Scallop Circle, distressed and crumpled, tops it off.  (It does look like my rosette is a little crooked, and unfortunately I gave the card away and can’t fix it and re-photograph.  I hate it when that happens.  Arghhh!)
  • Vintage Touches!  Even Halloween cards can go vintage.  Curl the corners! Distress the edges! Add a snippet of tea-stained Victoria Lace! And how did I achieve such wonderful tea stains?  By using the Tea Stain Ink Spot and the Flat Stamp from the Distressing Essentials kit.
What do you think of my Halloween card?  Leave me a comment and let me know.  Of course, I can’t wait to see what Halloween cards you conjure up!  And remember, if you ever have a question about the cards that I create or the techniques that I use, I am only an email away!
