It’s time for another “From Me to You” card…cards which can be made in under 45 minutes! Today’s card took me 40 minutes to complete.  This 40  minutes does include design time, so I am sure that you can create it in far less time…especially with the detailed instructions I include with my “From Me to You” cards!


I have been asked several times to design something “cute”.  Even my own husband and son tell me that I don’t do very many “cute” cards.  Elegant…shabby…vintage….but not cute! When I asked my husband what he thought of today’s card…he said the one word I for which I was looking, “Cute!”  I will be anxious to hear what you think!

• Prepare a standard card base measuring 4-1/4″ wide by 5-1/2″ long from textured Whisper White card stock.
• Using Jet Black StazOn ink, stamp the “Trio of Trees” image from the Polar Party stamp set onto a piece of Whisper White card stock which measures 2-9/16″ wide by 3-1/8″ long.
• Using a Blender Pen, color the Trees–-Old Olive, the Stars—More Mustard, the Trunks—Soft Suede, and the Ornaments—Cherry Cobbler.
• Mat the Whisper White image mat onto a piece of Cherry Cobbler measuring 2-11/16″ wide and 3-1/4″ long.
• Mat this onto a piece of Lucky Limeade measuring 2-15/16″ wide and 3-1/2″ long.
• Using a red permanent marker, like a Sharpie, color 12 of the mini-Basic Pearls and adhere to the first tree.  Color 6 medium-Basic Pearls and adhere to the middle tree.
• Using Dazzling Details, add a touch of snow below the trees.

 

• “Pop” the image mat onto Stampin’ Dimensionals and adhere to the card base.
• Ink the “Happy Holidays” sentiment from Holiday Happiness using Cherry Cobbler and Lucky Limeade Stampin’ Write Markers, and stamp onto a 2-11/16″ wide by 3/4″ long piece of Whisper White card stock.  Cut a “V” from the left hand side to make a pennant.  Mat onto Cherry Cobbler and Lucky Limeade leaving a 1/16″ border all the way around on both colors.

 

• Adhere the sentiment mat below the image.

No Lucky Limeade…don’t despair! Old Olive is a suitable substitute.  And Real Red looks just as lovely as Cherry Cobbler!  And if you need a refresher on how to watercolor with Blender Pens and inks, check out THIS POST with video from my archives.


I am in the process of working up a tutorial from the Seam Binding Roses featured on Sunday’s card.  I have to wait for those pesky Twins to take a nap!

My son, Brady, received word that he has advanced to the finals of the Western Illinois University Concerto Competition, which will be held in mid-November.  And Brody the Boxer won the Breed and took a Group II this weekend, beating out his diva sister, Muffy.  Way to go, Schach Boys!

It’s Sunday and time to play with The Paper Players! This week the talented Nance Leedy is hosting a sketch challenge, and I am sure that you will agree that her design is a classic.  I hope you enjoy the Christmas card which I created using the perennial favorite stamp set, Lovely As a Tree.

• A Random Act of Stamping! The Leafless Trees from Lovely As a Tree were inked in Early Espresso and stamped onto Very Vanilla card stock.  Empty spaces were filled in with the Water Spots stamp from French Foliage and speckles from the Color Spritzer Tool.

 

• O Christmas Tree! The Pine image was inked with Always Artichoke and stamped onto Very Vanilla.  It was then overstamped with VersaMark and heat embossed with Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder.  Basic Pearls were colored with a red permanent marker, and used to adorn the tree.

 

• Snip-a-dee-do-dah!  The Christmas Banner image from Pines and Poinsettias was inked with Early Espresso and Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Write Markers, and stamped onto Naturals Ivory card stock.  The snipped out image was popped up on dimensionals.

• Ribbon Roses!  Snippets of Cherry Cobbler and Always Artichoke Seam Binding were schirred and formed into ribbon roses and leaves for instant “wow”!

 

Early Espresso and Cherry Cobbler make a “yummy” color combination, don’t you think?  And this would make a wonderful Christmas card even without the Christmas banner.  If pressed for time, this card is still “Lovely As a Tree” even without the ribbon roses! It’s Thursday and time to play at Pals Paper Arts!  This week we are hosting a fabulous sketch challenge designed by talented Pal,  Margaret Moody.  I felt the urge to distress and layer, so I pulled out one of my favorite sets from the Holiday Mini…Christmas Lodge.  This is an easy card to make.  Yes, it’s a wee bit time intensive…but it is easy.  Texture, emboss resist, snowflakes and pearls…these are a few of my favorite things…and I hope you will enjoy them, too!  

• “Roughled” edges! The Seven-Sided Tool from the Cutter Kit is perfect for roughing up the edges of card stock.  Crumb Cake ink, applied with a Sponge Dauber, accents the distressing even more.

• Speckle and spots!  The Color Spritzer Tool, paired with a Crumb Cake Stampin’ Write Marker, adds speckles in a second, while the Waterspot stamp from French Foliage ages in an instant! Simply ink it up with Crumb Cake and stamp it off once before stamping on the image!

• Don’t resist the urge to resist! The Lodge image was stamped in VersaMark onto Naturals Ivory card stock and heat embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  Crumb Cake ink was sponged over the image and the excess was removed with a tissue.

• Texture! The exquisite texture of the Snow Burst Embossing Folder is enhanced by brayering Crumb Cake over the surface.  The edges are daubed with more Crumb Cake for further definition.

• Let it snow! A flurry of Snowflakes was created in a jiffy with the Northern Frost Sizzlits Decorative Strip Die and the Big Shot.  The edges were kissed with Crumb Cake.  Pearls add a touch of elegance!

So there you have it! Each step in itself is simple, but when combined, the result looks complex.  When faced with a card with so many details, break it down into a series of smaller tasks, and you will be finished before you know it!
