A Peek at The Players and Free Pearls

It’s Saturday and time to take a peek at this week’s The Paper Players inspiration card.  I hope you enjoy this peek, and that you will join me for the reveal tomorrow.  In the meantime, please check to see who the Design Team designated as their Cuts Above and Headliner!

Remember, your comments on today’s peek and Friday’s Buried Treasure post could earn you free pearls! I will use a random number generator to select one person from all who left comments on these two posts.  The name of the lucky winner will be posted Monday.

Twin Update

As I mentioned in an earlier post, the Twins are showing this weekend.  I do have the results from Thursday, and Muffy Lin won the Champion class.  Here is a picture of her pretty ribbon!

I will hopefully have more happy results to report later.  Until next time…

Buried Treasure and Free Pearls

It’s been a hectic few days here at The Stampin’ Schach.  The Twins are showing four days, beginning yesterday through Sunday and Brady the Boy has two concerts, Friday and Sunday.  Yikes!  What’s a mother to do! I guess share a little Buried Treasure!

“Buried Treasure” is a weekly Friday feature here at The Stampin’ Schach. What are “Buried Treasures”? They are cards from my archives which are deserving of a revisit. Whether it’s a layout, a technique, or maybe just an underused stamp set, these cards are like a pirate’s booty of ideas worth a second look. Today’s card first appeared on The Stampin’ Schach on November 26,  2009.  Click HERE  to see the original post with all of the delicious details!

Layout: This card has a layout that is perfect for showcasing Stampin’ Up!’s variety of larger image stamp sets.  For the upcoming holiday season, how about A Christmas Carol, Frostwood Lodge, Tidings of Joy,  or Come to Bethlehem.  You can even make a collage of ornaments in the image area.  Non-holiday choices could include: Countryside, In Wilderness, Farm Life, Nature’s Silhouettes, Zoo Review.  Or fill the space with flowers and leaves.  Paisley Petals, Creative Elements, Falling Leaves and French Foliage would be viable choices. Of course for winter,  you just can’t beat snowflakes or snowmen!

Technique:  I can never pass up the opportunity to use Stampin’ Up!’s Textured Impressions Embossing Folders.  Think how yummy texture would look behind the image.  And of course,  Designer Series Paper is always an option.  This is a perfect opportunity to create your own background paper, and employ techniques such as faux silk or embedded embossing. This is also a perfect layout to highlight the emboss resist technique for the image.
Embellishments:  If I were making this card today, I would change the border and add pearls. Depending on what image I was using,  I might add satin ribbon and a fabulous bow.

Free Pearls…Anyone?

Remember, your comments are important to me, and I do read each and every one of them.  So please, won’t you leave me a comment and let me know what you think about today’s Buried Treasure.  From all comments left on this post and Saturday’s post, I will randomly select one lucky person to receive free pearls.  With the holiday season approaching, I don’t want you to be without my favorite embellishment!

Of course, if you have a question about the cards that I create, or the techniques that I use, please EMAIL me.  Until next time…

Spooky for the Pals

It’s Thursday…and time to play at the PPA! Pals Paper Arts has conjured up a trio of colors for you this week for Challenge #114…A Color Challenge! As for me, I have conjured up a spooky bookmark card.  The bookmark pops right off the base for future use.  This over-sized card (4-3/4″ wide x 6″ long) will be hand-delivered to one of my son’s friends, who loves gothic horror/mystery/romance novels.  Although the PPA Design Team uses Stampin’ Up! products, we welcome anyone and everyone to join our challenges…regardless of what type of product you use.  So…won’t you join in the fun this week?

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips:  Designing Over-Sized Cards

  •  Emboss resist! The Skeleton from Piece of Poison was inked in VersaMark and stamped onto Naturals Ivory card stock.  It was then heat embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  Crumb Cake was sponged over the image to accent the look.

  • Distress! The Seven Sided Tool from the Cutter Kit was used to distress the edges of the book mark.  Soft Suede ink was then applied with a Sponge Dauber!
  • Spritz! The Color Spritzer Tool and a Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker adds instant speckles!
  • Limeberry Pie! A trio of large scallops in the challenge colors, created with the Tasteful Trim Die,  separates the two patterns from  Pick Your Poison Designer Series Paper.  A punched Scallop Ribbon Border, complete with Linen Thread cross stitch, was added to the top of the scallops.  With over-sized cards, large scallops add balance and fill up space.

  • A touch of romance! A piece Sticky Strip was adhered to the side of the bookmark, and Very Vanilla Seam Binding was finger-pleated and held in place with Mini Glue Dots.

  • Smooch a flower!  A Scallop Circle flower with an Antique Brad center adds interest and draws the eye to the orange Basic PearlsVanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz adds so much sparkle in real life.
  • Spooky! The sentiment from Wicked Cool was inked in Soft Suede and stamped onto Very Vanilla.  The Spider Web from the same set was inked in Crumb Cake and overstamped onto the sentiment.  This was then punched with the Large Oval Punch and matted onto a Rich Razzleberry Scalloped Oval.

  • The finishing touch! An orange permanent marker was used to transform ordinary Basic Pearls into Pumpkin pearl drops!

There is so much going on with this card! Larger cards can handle more details, so I piled them on!  The little gal who is going to receive this card is such a sweetie. I hope she likes her bookmark. As always, I do appreciate your comments, and look forward to reading each and every one.   And remember, if you ever have any questions about the cards that I create or the techniques I use, I am only an email away.  Until next time…
