Vintage Regional Card and Card Winner

A few days ago, I mentioned that I would love to create a vintage version of the San Antonio Regionals card.  Well…here it is! I used a similar layout, but I also distressed, spritzed, and added all of those touches which scream vintage.  I hope you enjoy this vintage twist on a clean and cute favorite!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips:  Those Vintage Touches

The finished dimensions of this card are 4-1/4″ wide x 5-1/2″ long.

  • Paper!  One of the easiest ways to create a vintage card is to begin with the paper.  What could be better than these fabulous patterns from the Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper Collection! They remind me so much of the patterns in my grandmother’s aprons when I was young.  As an added plus, this paper is one of the FREE products you can choose with a $50 purchase (not including tax and shipping) during Sale-A-Bration.  Shop with  me, and earn “Shop with Schach” Reward Points.

  • Texture! A Textured Impressions Embossing Folder can add to the vintage experience.  Finial Press was my folder of choice.  I brayered on a little Crumb Cake ink to enhance the pattern.  Tip:  Go tone-on-tone when brayering on ink for texture enhancement.  You want the contrast to be subtle, not overwhelming!
  • Lace and Curls! Never underestimate the power of lace and corner curls in creating a vintage feel!   Create curls in a jiffy by curling the corner of your paper around a round file.  My favorite…the perfectly sized round file from the Distressing Essential Kit.
  • Scallops and Pearls! The Scallop Trim Border is the perfect foundation for pearl placement!
  • Flower Power! Distressing is often a hallmark of a vintage card.  The edges of the punched flower were distressed using Crumb Cake ink.  One of Stampin’ Up!’s new Large Basic Pearls graces its center.
  • Dream! Flagged and curled, the “Dream” sentiment from the Loving Thoughts stamp set received instant speckles, courtesy of the Color Spritzer Tool and a Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker!
  • Side by side! Isn’t it amazing how different the two cards look?  Yet…the layout is similar and the focal point of each is a flower created with the Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer Punch!

Winner, Winner

A big “Thank You” to all of you who left comments on the Everything Eleanor card.  Random.org has spoken and the Winner of the Everything Eleanor card is:  #67 Stephanie.

The Paper Players Meet Eleanor

Everything Eleanor is a new Stampin’ Up! set which will be available this June in the 2012 – 2013 Catalog.  With its fabulous flourish and fantastic flowers, it is a vintage lover’s delight! However, there is no reason why clean and elegant designers will not be enamored with it, too! I took the vintage look to the max, with distressing, spritzing, lace, glitter…and of course…pearls! I hope you enjoy making Eleanor’s acquaintance…and I hope that you will join The Paper Players this week  for an awesome sketch challenge created by the uber-talented Anne Marie Hile!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips: Vintage Feminine

The finished size of this card is 4-1/4″ wide by 5-1/2″ long.

  • Flourishes and Flowers!  By stamping my own background, I was able to highlight the gorgeous flourish and two of the three floral images found in the Everything Eleanor double set.  Wisteria Wonder and Blushing Bride enhance the feminine look.  A few Waterspots, courtesy of  the French Foliage set, and a liberal dose of speckles courtesy of the Color Spritzer Tool, adds to the overall vintage effect.
  • Cameo! The Oval Designer Frame provides the perfect foundation for building a cameo from the largest of the floral images.  VersaMark, combined with Stampin’ Up!’s now retired Glassy Glaze, can be used to make faux cracked glass in a matter of minutes! Tip:  Can’t wait for your glaze to harden?  Throw it in the freezer for a few minutes like I do!
  • Sparkle Plenty! Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter accents the fabulous Label from Everything Eleanor.  Arghhh!  I should have taken a picture of it before I applied the cameo.  Trust me…you will see the entire label soon. I promise!
  • With a snip-snip here…and a curl-curl there! Create a sentiment with vintage appeal by curling one end and flagging the other.  Although there are many who use a square punch to create their pennant ends, I use paper snips. Although I may obsess about other parts of my card, I never worry if my points are off a smidge! As for making the curls, nothing beats the Round File from the Distressing Essentials Kit!
  •  Oops!  Anne Marie’s sketch contained an element to the left of the central image.  To stay true to her sketch, I added a Blushing Bride Pleated Ribbon Rose! However, I carefully removed it.  I felt it detracted from the “cameo”.  What do you think?

I hope you enjoyed meeting Eleanor! I know I did…and I really liked her.  I believe I will be inviting her back to The Stampin’ Schach soon.  As promised yesterday,  one of you will be receiving this card in the mail.  I hope you like it!

I have been busy preparing for a Birthday Card Stamp-a-Stack.  Are you going to be ready to see some clean and simple, quick and easy birthday cards in a few days? In the meantime, won’t you please let me know what you think about today’s card in your comment?  Your comments are important to me, and I do read each and every one.  Of course, if you have questions about the cards that I create or the techniques that I use, I am only an email away!   I will apologize that I fell way behind in responding to your comments while I was at Leadership.  I guess I really do need to take my laptop with me when I travel.  Until next time…
