From Me to You…Quick and Easy Vintage with Step-by-Step Instructions

It has been awhile since I have posted a “From Me to You” card, and I have had several requests to do one again.  In case you have forgotten, a “From Me to You” card can be completed in 45 minutes or less.  I also provide you with the steps to recreate the card, including dimensions.  This card clocked in at 42 minutes.  Of course, you can always add more or do more if you have the time!  To jump-start today’s card, I began with a great sketch…this time from Freshly Made Sketches.  Of course, since it is not a “clean” card, I will not be entering it into their challenge.  I just had to add the distressing!

Step-by-Step Tutorial:  Quick and Easy Vintage

The finished dimensions are 4-1/4″ wide x 5-1/2″ long.

  • Cut a card base from Crumb Cake and zip the front of it through the Big Shot with the Finial Press Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. Tip:  For a vintage card, use a vintage pattern.  Using a Brayer, lightly roll Crumb Cake ink over the embossing.  Using a Sponge Dauber, distress the edges with Crumb Cake. Tip:  Use tone-on-tone for a more subtle effect.
  •  Cut a 2-3/8″ wide by 4-3/8″ long panel from Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper.  Mat onto Poppy Parade card stock, leaving 1/16″ borders on all sides. Tip:  Look for vintage patterns to add instant vintage style to a card quickly!
  • Using Naturals Ivory card stock, cut your image panel at 2-3/4″ square.  Ink up the image from the Fresh Vintage stamp set using Poppy Parade, Lucky Limeade, and Pool Party Stampin’ Write Markers, and stamp onto the image panel.  Using the Seven Sided Tool from the Cutter Kit, distress the edges. Shade using Crumb Cake ink and a Sponge Dauber.  Mat onto Poppy Parade card stock, leaving 1/16″ border on all sides.  Tip: Naturals Ivory card stock contains subtle flecks…no need to use the Color Spritzer Tool!
  • Add a ribbon and bow made from Lucky Limeade and Calypso Coral Ruffled Ribbon. Tip:  The Ruffled Ribbon adds vintage flair in seconds!
  • Create a Poppy Parade Butterfly using the Beautiful Wings Embosslit.  Add Basic Pearls and spritz with Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz.
  • Assemble your card as shown in the sketch.  Add Basic Pearls to the flowers.

I hope you enjoyed your step-by-step tutorial, and that you will try to create your own Quick and Easy Vintage card.  Just remember…a few touches, like selecting a vintage designer paper and vintage embossing folder…conveys a vintage feel quickly and easily!

As always, I appreciate your comments and your emails. I do read each and every one of them.  And don’t forget, I LOVE answering any questions that you may have about the cards that I create or the techniques that I use. I am only an email away! Until next time…

Clean and Elegant Spring for The Players

It’s Sunday and time to play with The Paper Players.  This week the talented Jaydee is hosting a theme challenge:  Spring!  And what says Spring better than Butterflies and Blooms! I hope you enjoy my clean and elegant Spring card!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips:  Clean and Elegant

The finished dimensions of this card are 4-1/4″  wide x 5-1/2″ long.

  • Razzle Dazzle! Rich Razzleberry Field Flowers sparkle with the addition of Dazzling Diamond centers! I love adding glitter with Stampin’ Up!’s Two Way Glue Pen.  It’s my favorite way to glitterize!

  • Pearlicious Papillons! What better way to add elegance to butterflies than with Basic Pearls!
  • It’s Bow Time! A beautiful bow is the perfect finishing touch to a clean and elegant card.  Satin Ribbon works best for adding a touch of class, and is easy to work with!
  • Less is More!  Look at the difference between my first card, with three butterflies, and my finished card, with two.  Although the third butterfly is gorgeous in itself, it is too large and throws off the balance.  In this case, less is certainly more!
The large butterfly overpowers the design
The design is now opened up
  • What’s Your Angle?  Look at the difference changing the angle of the larger of the two butterflies makes! Once again, it is all about the balance!
Before
After changing the angle

This card will be winging its way to Jasmin Arakawa, Brady Schach‘s accompanist.  Jasmin is extremely talented, as you will see if you check out her website.  And speaking of Brady, he did a fabulous job Friday evening performing the Jolivet Concertino with the Western Illinois University Orchestra.  To top off the evening, Brady was the featured soloist during the Orchestra’s performance of  selections from Bizet’s Carmen.  I hope to have a recording available later.  In the meantime, I would love to share Brady’s publicity photo, which was taken by KimAnne Photography.  She does excellent work!

I hope you enjoyed today’s card, and that you will check out the rest of what the design team has created for you.  As always, I do appreciate your comments!  Of course, if you ever have any questions about the cards that I create or the techniques that I use, I am only an email away! Until next time…

Today Is Your Day (with apologies to Dr. Seuss)

Photo courtesy of Sugar Bee Crafts

Today is Dr. Seuss’s birthday.  I remember reading Dr. Seuss books when I was little, and I remember reading them to Brady when he was little.  When Brady graduated from high school, one of the graduation gifts I purchased for him was a copy of  Oh the Places You Will Go.  There are so many words of wisdom in that book.

So today, in honor of Dr. Seuss, here is a little Seussian poem for those of you who may be thinking about becoming a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator and taking advantage of the Starter Kit special, which you can read about HERE.  (Thanks to John Sanpietro for the idea of creating our own poem.)
