Brayered Wetlands for The Paper Players

It’s Sunday, and time to play with The Paper Players!  This week we are hosting a “Tic-Tac-Toe” challenge.  Of course, I just had to select “Pearls” as one of my items.  I did step out of my comfort zone, however, and decided to do a little brayering.  And boy, did these colors put me outside of “the zone”, too.  I know it’s quite different for me, but I hope that you enjoy today’s card.

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
This finished card measures 4-1/4″ wide by 5-1/2″ long.

  • “Mask”-erade! When brayering or sponging, Post It notes make the best masks. I used a Circle Punch to punch out my sun from a Post It note and placed it into position on the card stock. I then brayered right over the top of it.  Make sure to punch from the section that has the “sticky” on it!
  • Colorific! From top to bottom, I used Marina Mist, Calypso Coral, So Saffron and Old Olive inks to achieve this array of colors.
  • Banner basics!  Instead of curling one end of this birthday banner,  both ends were notched using the Hexagon Punch. The result presents a more tailored look that fits the image better.

I was fortunate a few years ago to be able to take two brayering classes from Michelle Zindorf.  Michelle’s brayering is beyond compare, and her tutorials on brayering are fabulous!  While I was very happy with my results, brayering is still one of those techniques that definitely takes me out of my “zone”.  How about you? What takes you out of your Comfort Zone? Won’t you let me know in today’s comment?  Your comments are important to me.  And remember, if you ever have questions about the cards I create, or the techniques I use, I am only an email away.  Until next time…

Santa’s List for Pals Paper Arts

It’s Thursday, and time to play with the Pals at Pals Paper Arts.  This week we are hosting a sketch challenge. This is an awesome sketch designed by our resident sketch artist, Nicole Watt. I decided to add to my small stash of holiday cards, and pulled out the new Santa’s List stamp set from the Holiday Catalog.  Enjoy!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
This finished card measures 5-1/4″ square.

  • Textures and patterns!  A classic, traditional Santa image, such as the one from Santa’s List, cried out for traditional colors.  It just so happens that the Season of Style Designer Series Paper collection was able to come to the rescue.  Old Olive and Cherry Cobbler are the perfect traditional duo, while nothing beats the Petals-a-Plenty Embossing Folder for adding traditional texture.
  • Paper piecing!  Santa was stamped once in Cherry Cobbler, and a second time in Smoky Slate. The Smoky Slate fur trim was then snipped out and adhered for contrast.
  • The list!  Our Santa is sporting a custom made list!  The original list was simply elongated and curled at the end.  At The Stampin’ Schach, no list would be complete without the names of three good dogs…Muffy, Lexi, and Brody, so I made sure to add them.

I loved creating the list and slipping it behind Santa’s hand.  The cool thing is that this could be customized for any recipient. What do you think of today’s card? A Calm Christmas for The Paper Players

It’s Sunday, and time to play with The Paper Players! This week the talented Sandy has an awesome sketch challenge for us. I gave the sketch just a little twist, and used the same pattern for both panels. The result is clean and elegant.  I hope you enjoy today’s card.

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
This finished card measures 4-1/4″ wide by 5-1/2″ long.

  • Sparkle plenty! After stamping the Dove from Calm Christmas in Island Indigo, it was snipped out and popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals. Rhinestones and pearls add a touch of glam and sparkle!
  • Selective inking!  Using an Island Indigo Stampin’ Write Marker, only the word Peace was inked from the Peace on Earth sentiment.  Stamping onto textured card stock makes it look as if it were stamped onto canvas.
  • Argentum accent!  Stampin’ Up!’s new Silver Foil adds an awesome shine…especially when enhanced with rhinestones.

This is one of those cards that is so much prettier in person. I have always had a problem photographing rhinestones. However, it was very simple to make. I would like to create it again, using different colors and a different embossing folder. I am thinking Very Vanilla, Gold Foil, and only pearls.  Any suggestions on an ink color? Won’t you let me know in today’s comment? Your comments are important to me, and I do read each and every one. Of course, if you have any questions about the cards I create and the techniques I use, I am only an email away.  Until next time…
