A Paper Players Color Challenge

It’s Sunday, and time to play with The Paper Players! The talented Sandy Mathis has a trio of gorgeous colors for us this week:  Calypso Coral, Pear Pizzazz, So Saffron.  I decided to ink up a stamp from the Occasions catalog, So Very Grateful.  I hope you enjoy today’s fun and fresh card.

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
This finished card measures 4-1/4″ wide by 5-1/2″ long.

  •  Painted posies! The Floral Spray from So Very Grateful was watercolored using Blender Pens and inks.  The image was stamped a second time, and two fronds of leaves and the center blossom were colored and snipped out.  To add depth, they were popped up on dimensionals.  Pearls bedeck the centers of the flowers for a sweet touch.
  • Tempting texture! The Calypso Coral banner was passed through the Big Shot with the Decorative Dots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  It pairs great with the polka dots, don’t you think?
  • Dotty about dots! I love this Calypso Coral polka dotted paper from the I am Me Designer Series Paper Collection.  It’s a fun pattern.  I will be sad to see it go.  However, I know I will find a paper from the new catalog to take its place!  Of course, the “thank you” sentiment could very easily be replaced with a “birthday” or “thinking of you” sentiment, if desired.

I hope those of you who are celebrating Mother’s Day have a lovely one.  I will spend extra time snuggling with the furbabies today.  Brady is gearing up for his jury and orals, and is not able to come home.  In fact, it will be a few weeks before I get to see him.  After graduation, he is heading to Italy with the University of Missouri Wind Ensemble. Not only will he play, he will also get time for sight-seeing. How awesome!  I’m a little sad that he will not be with me today, but we’ll make certain to celebrate when he does come back. In the meantime, I can reminisce about the earlier years!

As always, your comments are important to me.  Won’t you let me know what you think about today’s card? And remember, if you ever have a question about the cards I create or the techniques I use, I am only an email away.  Until next time…

Hello, Sailor! Meet Sea Street and Work of Art

It’s Thursday, and time to play with the Pals at Pals Paper Arts.  This week’s color challenge features a regal duo and a neutral:  Cajun Craze, Night of Navy, Very Vanilla.  When I saw these three colors together, I thought it looked a little nautical, and immediately thought of using the Open Sea stamp set.  But then a little voice said,  “Hey, Ann!  Why not create something fun and humorous, instead of your typical vintage card!”  And then another voice was saying, “Ann, why not use one of those cute sets and papers you got in the preorder?”  Since I am not one to argue with the voices in my head, I did just that.  I pulled out the new Work of Art set, the new Sea Street set and paired them up with a set from the Occasions catalog:  Hello, Sailor. I hope you enjoy today’s creation!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
This card measures 4-1/4″ wide by 5-1/2″ long.

  • Cheery Octopus!  This little eight-armed cephalopod is such a cutie-patootie! Who can resist that smile?  I fussy cut around the tentacles…and although Temptation raised her head, I did not add a single pearl to the little guy!  And what about that little bit of new Maritime Designer Series Paper peeking out from behind the image panel? Isn’t it awesome?
  • Speckles and chevrons!  What a fabulous combination the Chevron image from Work of Art and the Speckles image from Glorious Grunge make!  The Chevrons pack a visual punch, and are great for filling up “white space”.  Work of Art definitely made my list of Top Ten Stamp Sets from the new catalog!
  • Hello, Word Bubble! A word bubble was cut using the Word Bubble Framelits.  It’s the perfect way to frame the “Hello Sailor” saying.

Although I set out to create something a little different, this card still “feels” like me.  Maybe it’s the banners…or perhaps it’s the speckles.  And although I did not use pearls, there are candy dots.  Isn’t it funny how some things just ingrain themselves into our designs.  What about you?  Is there something that always seems to find itself on a card you create?  Won’t you let me know in today’s comment? Your comments are important to me, and I do enjoy reading them!  As always, if you ever have a question about the cards I create or the techniques I use, I am only an email away.  Until next time…
