The Stamp Review Crew: Amazing Birthday Edition

Welcome back for another round of inspiration from the Stamp Review Crew!  This week we are featuring Amazing Birthday. I am #10 on the hop. You may have just left stop #9: the absolutely amazing Wendy Weixler. If so, you are in the right spot.  I hope you enjoy today’s hop! 

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips: Bright and Cheery
This finished card measures 4-1/4″ by 5-1/2″ long.

  • Bright and cheery colors! Instead of selectively inking the sentiment, I stamped it 4 times, once in each of the following colors:  Bermuda Bay, Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry, Garden Green.  I then snipped out the various sections, and overlayed them onto the Bermuda Bay image.  I will use the leftover parts to create more of this style card.
  • Rosette! To add to the festive feel of this card, I added a rosette at the bottom of the banner.  Crafted from the Crushed Curry pattern from the Park Lane Designer Series Paper collection, this little rosette is topped with the Cake image, which has been stamped in Garden Green.
  • Bright in Bermuda! Confetti Celebration’s cheerful Bermuda Bay pattern works perfectly behind the banner.  It’s adds such a cheerful punch of color, don’t you think?

I’ll be the first to admit,  I THOUGHT this set was not my style.  It has sat in my pantry (remember…no studio for me…I stamp in my kitchen), since I received it free last year.  But you know what? I really had fun with this card.  This little gem will be winging its way to Missouri for Brady’s upcoming birthday.  It will be like sending sunshine in a card!

Stippled Blossoms for The Paper Players

It’s Sunday, and time to play with The Paper Players. This week we are hosting a “Clean and Simple Thank You” challenge.  Although my card did not end up looking so clean and simple, it was when I designed it in my head.  I probably should not have scored the bottom…but at least I did not add pearls, as I would have loved to have done.  Then we have the matter of the top panel.  Maybe I should not have randomly stamped the Stippled image.  And what about that bow…perhaps something a little more tailored would have been in order.  But in the end, the card is what it is.  Which brings us to an important caveat:  If it is clean and simple to you, it is clean and simple to us.  At the Paper Players, we are all about the fun.

  • “Bow”-dacious!  Early Espresso Seam Binding was spritzed with rubbing alcohol and then crumpled into a ball.  When it was dry, it was carefully uncrumpled and tied into a bow.  Strands of Gold Sequins provide a touch of elegance.
  • Faintly floral! One of my favorite backgrounds is crafted using the Stippled image.  For this card it was inked with Soft Suede, stamped off twice, and randomly stamped over Very Vanilla Polka Dot paper, from the Neutrals Collection Designer Series Paper Stack.

  • Feather! For a touch of whimsy plus elegance, a gold embossed Feather from the Four Feathers stamp set was added. The addition of the feather certainly took away from the “clean with lots of white space” aspect.  But I loved the organic feel it imparted to the overall design, so I left it on.

As they say, hindsight is twenty-twenty.  Remove the feather, substitute a simpler bow without the sequins, skip the random stamping, and delete the scoring…and there you have my clean and simple card!   As always, your comments are so very important to me.  Won’t you let me know what you think of today’s card?  And remember, if you ever have a question about the cards I create or the techniques I use, I am only an email away!  Until next time…
