Wrapped in Warmth for The Paper Players

The Paper Players is one of my favorite challenges.  So when I had a few minutes free today, I seized upon the opportunity to play along.  This week, the talented LeAnne Pugliese has a fun Tic-Tac-Toe challenge for us.

pp319I was able to fill up three of the rows: Red – Glitter – Snowflakes; Red – Washi Tape – Ribbon; Diecut – Pine – Ribbon.  I did take the liberty of counting Clear Wink of Stella as “glitter”, and Cherry Cobbler Baker’s Twine as ribbon.  However, this was still a challenge which took me time to plan out.  Originally, I was going to use the Steam Engine from Christmas Magic.  Suffice it to say, I have a water colored locomotive to use on another card, another day.  Do you ever have days like that? In the end, I used the sentiment from Wrapped in Warmth, and combined it with some Gold Foil pine diecuts from the Pretty Pines Thinlits Dies collection.  I hope you enjoy today’s effort!

Gold paired with Cherry Cobbler is one of my favorite color combinations for the holidays. I love the elegance of Gold Foil and the warmth of Cherry Cobbler.

I adore this sentiment from Wrapped in Warmth! I used Stampin’ Markers to selectively color it.  Of course, I gave the stamp a good “huffing” after inking it up, to make certain the inks transferred easily to the paper.

Soft Sky Snowflakes, from the stamp set Peace This Christmas, were outline with Clear Wink of Stella and adorned with Pearls.

A Cherry Cobbler Baker’s Twine bow and loops of Gold Baker’s Twine gracefully accent the Gold Foil Pine Cones.

img_0784I hope whomever receives this card for Christmas will be pleased with it.  And, as a bonus, I have a great start on another card…as soon as I figure out what to do with a water colored Christmas Express!

A Vintage Father Christmas

When the Holiday Catalog was released this year, there was one stamp set which grabbed my attention immediately:  Father Christmas.  Now this is not a set which will appeal to everyone, but the vintage vibes it was putting out spoke strongly to me.  So of course, I had to have it. I thought it was a perfect candidate for the emboss resist technique.

It has been a long time since I have used this technique.  I used to use it all the time.  In fact some of my all-time favorite cards were created with the emboss resist technique, such as this one from way back in 2010.

It’s a technique that used to be all the vogue, but which is seldom seen today.  But that aside, I decided to make today’s card a yummy vintage confection.  I hope you enjoy it!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
This finished card measures 4-1/4″ wide x 5-1/2″ long when folded.

To create the focal image, I stamped Father Christmas in VersaMark ink onto Very Vanilla card stock.  I then heat embossed it using White Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  After that, I distressed the image using Crumb Cake ink and a Stamping Sponge, wiping away the excess ink with a tissue.  I added a little Cherry Cobbler ink to his robes, and Always Artichoke to the tree.

I distressed around the edges of the oval with Crumb Cake ink.  A few Crumb Cake holly sprigs, stamped off before stamping onto the oval, and a few speckles, courtesy of the Gorgeous Grunge set, finish the oval.

The Christmas Greetings header and the bottom border were completed in the same method.  To add some shimmer and shine, I used Clear and Gold Wink of Stella pens along the line work.  Although you can’t see the shimmer, you can see where the gold was added.

Holly Sprigs frame the oval.  They were stamped in Soft Suede, and very lightly colored using Blender Pens. Of course, no card is complete without the addition of a few Pearls, here and there!

father-christmas-basement-006I did create another version of this card in which Father Christmas and the Holly Sprigs are accented with Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter.  I adjusted the lighting and color in the picture below so you can see the sparkle!

You can even create rectangles like the one pictured above.  Here’s how:

Line up the framelit on your paper so one end of the framelit and the paper are off the platform. You only want to cut three sides of the square. Run it through the Big Shot.  Rotate your paper and carefully line up the framelit with the cuts of the first run.  Make sure that one end of the framelit and paper are off the platform, so it doesn’t cut a line down the middle of your rectangle. Then run it through the Big Shot.

Circles:  1-3/8″, 1-7/8″, 2-3/8″, 2-7/8″
