Jar of Cheer and Momma’s Candy

A few days ago I posted a quick an easy holiday card featuring the Snowman from Jar of Cheer.  I mentioned I had created companion cards using other images from this set. Several of you have emailed me, asking to see them.  As with the Snowman card, which I discussed in this post, I used Blender Pens, inks and Stampin’ Up!’s Note Cards,  which are perfect for these small images.  If you are in need of a last minute, quick and easy card, search for a smaller holiday image and stamp away! While Jar of Cheer works perfectly, there are many other sets in your stash which will fill the bill!

And if you are in need of a quick and easy candy to share with family and friends, continue reading!

Momma’s Candy

My mother was an excellent cook, baker and candy maker.  Although I inherited all of her recipes, I did not inherit her baking and candy making genes.  Her pies were legendary.  And although she has been gone nearly 34 years, my sister and I talk about them to this very day.  I have never tasted anything like her cakes either.  German Chocolate and Red Velvet were made from scratch, using recipes from the Jewel T cook book, along with her own special added touches.  Breads and rolls were set atop the cook stove to rise.   My cakes come from boxes.  My pies from Marie Callender.  My homemade bread is made in a bread making machine.  I never tackled her divine divinity or her fabulous fudge. But I do make this wonderful peanut butter confection.  Her original recipe was written on a scrap of paper, a bank deposit slip if I remember correctly.  But before she passed away, she was in the process of recopying many of them.  My recipe files are a mish-mash of index cards, scraps of paper, and clippings.  This particular recipe had no other name except “Candy”, so in her honor, my family calls it “Momma’s Candy”.  I hope you’ll try it, and enjoy it as much as my family does.

1 Package Almond Bark
2 Cups of Super Chunky Peanut Butter
2 Cups of Dry Roasted Peanuts
2 Cups of Miniature Marshmallows
2 Cups of Rice Krispies

Melt the Almond Bark according to package directions. (I use the microwave).  When melted, mix in the Peanut Butter.  Then add the dry ingredients, and thoroughly coat.  Drop by spoonfuls (I use a tablespoon) onto cookie sheets. (I cover mine with wax paper to make clean-up easier.)  Chill in the refrigerator.  (I place mine out on the back porch to set.)  This makes a large batch of candy, and is easy-peasy! I ended up with 72 pieces, not counting the ones I tested for quality control.  While I use the Vanilla Almond Bark, my stampin’ friend Vicki has tried the Chocolate Almond Bark, and says it tastes like crunchy peanut clusters! I can’t wait to try it!

My mother would have been 98 on December 28th. She was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside.  Not a day passes that I do not remember her in some way.  And I know her spirit will be embracing us this Christmas, as we enjoy the traditional Christmas Eve soup she always prepared and nibble on “Momma’s Candy”.

May peace fill your hearts during this holiday season.  Until next time…

Jar of Cheer and Muffy the Boxer

Inspiration comes in many forms. In this case, it was in the form of an adorable card from a fellow dog lover and downline member,  Bonnielee.  I will admit that I was in a panic.  As usual, I had started my holiday cards way too late. How would I ever get them all done in time?  Sure, I had a few that I had created for challenges, and I also had the Stitched with Cheer cards, which I loved,  but I was quite short of the number I needed.  Was this going to be another year where I was sending out Christmas cards in February? And then Bonnielee’s card arrived in the mail.  It was too cute! I knew I could find in my stash of stamp sets a cute image that I could stamp into the corner of a note card. Jar of Cheer was just the ticket! Not only was there a snowman in this set, but I could also use the candle image, the tree, and the ornaments.  A day of despair turned into a day of cheer and a family affair! I stamped the images and did most of the coloring. My husband, Kim, did the embossing, because he loves using the Big Shot.  My son, Brady, helped with the coloring and placed the completed cards into envelopes.  Here is the source of my inspiration:

Thank you, Bonnie, for your inspiration and your friendship!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
For this design, I used Stampin’ Up!’s Note Cards and Envelopes.  The completed card measures 5″ x 3-1/2″ when folded.

What could be cuter than a snowman in a Santa hat! This little fellow was inked in Archival Basic Black ink.  I used Blender Pens and inks to add color.  His hat is Cherry Cobbler,  his nose is Pumpkin Pie, and his scarf is Garden Green.  The snow is shaded with Soft Sky, while Clear Wink of Stella adds a beautiful sheen.

After coloring, the card was embossed using the Softly Falling Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  A few Rhinestones were added for a touch of bling, while a Cherry Cobbler Baker’s Twine bow completes the look.  Now to be truly honest, Brady did have trouble stuffing the cards into the envelopes with the twine on them.  To make it easier for him, not everyone received a card with the bow.  But it is still cute even without it!

The Boxers

While Jackie and Kia relish romping in the snow, the older Twins prefer snuggling up in front of the space heater. Black masks have faded to silver, but they still have hearts of gold. It’s hard to believe they will be 7 their next birthday.  It seems like yesterday I was posting about bouncing puppies. In fact, as I was traveling down memory lane, I looked up my first Muffy post.  Many of you were on that journey with me.  Here is the original post:

You are looking at the reason I have no card to post today! “Muffy the Boxer” arrived at her forever home late Tuesday afternoon. It was a bittersweet day of sorts, as this marks the end of the “Missy the Boxer” era. But, Missy will live forever in my heart.

Muffy really has beautiful brown eyes…but I don’t have a “Doggie Blue-Eye” Fixer!

It is amazing how we canonize our pets after they are gone. Monday evening, as we reminisced about Missy, I remembered her as a natural at leash training. My husband reminded me that she used to drag me down the street when we first started out. I remembered Missy as a “snuggle-bunny” in bed, and once again my husband reminded me of how more than once we woke up freezing because a certain “somedog” had managed to weasel all of the covers during our bitterly cold Iowa winter nights! I remember the wonderful car rides, and seemed to forget the trips we made where I ended up with 55-pounds of Boxer butt on my lap. I remember a well-mannered lady, who never tore up a thing…except for Brady’s Homecoming King crown! But I attributed that to sibling rivalry!

As I write this short post, I have another sweet lady on my lap, and am typing this post with one hand. Obviously this will have to change, but for this evening I wouldn’t change a thing. Muffy is everything for which I could have asked. She’s an adorable, “puppy-kisses-in-the-face” type of baby. She’s “swassy”…both sweet and sassy. In the eight hours that we have had her, she has pottied outside five times with NO mistakes! She is training me well! She has learned to sit already, and stands quietly to have her “necklace” put on…we don’t call them collars at the Schach house! And she has done an amazing job at walking on the leash.

I can already tell that she is going to be another Velcro dog, and I am just fine with that! She will be my muse, just as another Boxer was for so many years. I had always promised Missy that we would have so much fun when I retired…now I will have to keep that promise with Muffy!”  End of original post.

Here is my beautiful baby when she was showing for her grand champion title:

And my beautiful silver lady tonight:

She did indeed turn into my constant companion. My friend. My muse. She owns my heart.

Carousel Birthday for Freshly Made Sketches

Yikes! I can’t believe Christmas is upon us! In the hectic rush of the past few days, I managed to make and address all of my holiday cards, as well as shop for loved ones, and take care of five furry monsters in this dangerous cold we have had here in Southeast Iowa.  Before heading into the next round of holiday preparations, I decided to take a break and play along with the talented designers at Freshly Made Sketches.  I felt JenT’s sketch was perfect for showcasing the Carousel Horse from the upcoming Occasions Catalog stamp set, Carousel Birthday.  I hope you enjoy today’s card as much as I have enjoyed sharing it with you!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
This finished card measures 4-1/4″ wide x 5-1/2″ long when folded.

I fell in love with the Carousel Horse the moment I laid eyes on this set! I colored sections of it with Bermuda Bay, Calypso Coral and Daffodil Delight Watercolor Pencils from Stampin’ Up!  I used a Blender Pen to activate the color.  It was so easy!

If you look closely, you can see in the following photo the shimmer added with a Clear Wink of Stella pen. It adorns the mane and tail, as well as the pole.

To add to the bling, I couldn’t resist adding rhinestones to the pennant border, which was snipped from Cupcakes & Carousels  Designer Series Paper.

From this angle, you can see I snipped out the horse, and popped him up on Stampin’ Dimensionals:

Isn’t this paper gorgeous? It is just one of the many patterns which will be offered in my annual Occasions Catalog Product Shares (paper, ribbons, embellies, I Want It All).  I will be sharing details with you right here on the blog later this week.  If you want to secure a spot in the shares, I can tell you that the “I Want It All Share” will be $45, shipping included!  Just email me if interested!

Time is ticking away for me to get my card uploaded to the challenge, but I will be back this week with Product Share Information (or you can email me for a link to the information), a quick and easy last minute Christmas card, Boxer Pictures, my famous “Momma’s Candy” recipe and more.  If you do not have an affiliation with a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, and need an Occasions Catalog and Sale-a-bration brochure, just let me know! I can drop one in the mail for you pronto.  If you are already my customer, yours are in the mail! As always, if you have any questions about the cards I create or the techniques I use, I am only an email away! Until next time…
