It’s another snowy day with bitterly cold temperatures. I refer to this as “stampin’ weather”. It’s also perfect weather for making candy and baking. So what better time is there than to share with you one of my favorite holiday candy recipe. It’s easy and delicious, and one that gets my husband involved, too. It’s a candy that is in high demand among family and friends, and one that I am always asked if I am bringing to festivities. I’ve shared it before, and I will share it again in case you have missed it. Yep! It’s Momma’s Candy. So if you are in need of a quick and easy candy to share with family and friends, continue reading!
Momma’s Candy

My mother was an excellent cook, baker and candy maker. Although I inherited all of her recipes, I did not inherit her baking and candy prowess. Her pies were legendary. And although she has been gone over 41 years, family members talk about them to this very day. I have never tasted anything like her cakes either. German Chocolate and Red Velvet were made from scratch, using recipes from the Jewel T cookbook, along with her own special added touches. Breads and rolls were set atop the cook stove to rise. I never tackled her divine divinity or her fabulous fudge. But I do make this wonderful peanut butter confection. Her original recipe was written on a scrap of paper, a bank deposit slip if I remember correctly. But before she passed away, she was in the process of recopying many of them. My recipe files are a mish-mash of index cards, scraps of paper, and clippings. This particular recipe had no other name except “Candy”, so in her honor, my family calls it “Momma’s Candy”. I hope you’ll try it and enjoy it as much as my family does.

1 Package Almond Bark
2 Cups of Super Chunky Peanut Butter
2 Cups of Dry Roasted Peanuts
2 Cups of Miniature Marshmallows
2 Cups of Rice Krispies
Melt the Almond Bark according to package directions. (I use the microwave). When melted, mix in the Peanut Butter. Then add the dry ingredients, and thoroughly coat. Drop by spoonfuls (I use a tablespoon) onto cookie sheets. (I cover mine with wax paper to make clean-up easier.) Chill in the refrigerator. (I place mine out on the back porch to set.) This makes a large batch of candy, and is easy-peasy! I ended up with 72 pieces, not counting the ones I tested for quality control. While I use the Vanilla Almond Bark, my stampin’ friend Vicki has tried the Chocolate Almond Bark, and says it tastes like crunchy peanut clusters! I can’t wait to try it!

My mother would have been 107 on December 28th. She was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. Not a day passes that I do not remember her in some way. I know her spirit will be embracing us this Christmas, as we enjoy the traditional Christmas Eve soup she always prepared and nibble on “Momma’s Candy”.

A Card From Nueve

Yep! I am that kind of Dog Mom. When Nueve told me he wanted a special card to give to HIS stamping friends and his obedience and trick dog teachers, I did exactly what he wanted. Mr Handsome Pants is a wee bit spoiled. Using an adorable Spellbinders bundle (Deck the Paws die set and stamps) and Stampin’ Up! cardstock, I created a festive Boxer dog which looks like just like him.

With the cold weather, the kids have been wearing their coats outside. Nueve has almost outgrown his. Can you believe it? It was his favorite coat, too. However, he does have a hand-me-down puffer jacket from Uncle Jackie he can put on when the -25 windchills arrive later this evening.

Both Sixxy and Uncle Q wear hand-me-downs from Great Aunt Muffy and Great Uncle Brody.

And yep, after snapping these pictures, I did get all of the backyard scooped off.

I’m off to the races. I have candy to make, a cake to bake, and maybe a batch of cookies, too. Plus, Nueve and I have Tricks to practice, as test night is this Monday.
I hope you have enjoyed today’s post, and that you’ll give Momma’s Candy a try. If candy isn’t “your piece of cake” as they say, maybe you’ll enjoy Momma’s Old Fashioned Oatmeal Cake. Thanks for sharing your mother’s recipes. Love seeing the boys, they are so handsome. Give them a hug for me. I still miss my Molly. She was a Springer Spaniel. A lively girl. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year!
I love your boxer babies……Thank you for sharing pictures.
Many years ago, We had boxers …..They are the best very loyal and intuitive
We miss them every day. Hopefully we will have more.
Hello Ann–I am in Canada. I want to try your mom’s recipe. What size package of almond bark do you use? Your card is adorable and it does look just like Nueve
Thx for sharing your recipe-and your mom is beautiful. That’s when ladies knew how to wear lipstick!
Our weenie dog had a corduroy coat that looked like a British admiral’s uniform. He loved wearing it because we made such a big fuss over him! Merry Christmas!
Yummmmm, my friend, it’s so nice to see the boys ,they’re so BEAUITFUL, Marry Christmas to u all, going to try this candy, looks D ….
That recipe sounds amazing, I’ll have to try it. My mom doesn’t particularly like to cook or bake, but I do! My personal cookbooks are two binders I put together where I typed up the recipes and printed them on fun letterhead paper (blue border with flowers) and I put them in sheet protectors, which means I don’t have to worry about getting stains on the recipes as I am a rather messy baker. I have a few recipes from my mom and lots of others that I picked up online or from friends. Last year my dad asked me to make a pecan pie with my maternal grandmother’s recipe for Thanksgiving, he was so excited about that (and he said it turned out just like he remembered it!). My mom remembers her mother making a cherry pie every year for Washington’s birthday with a hatchet shape cut into the top pie crust.
Merry Christmas to you and Nueve and the rest of your family!
Heartwarming post! Your Momma looks like a movie star! Nueve’s card is extraordinary! Thanks so much for sharing.
AnnI loved reading about your Mom and all her great baking goodies! I just recently lost my Mom and Christmas won’t be the same as my sons reminded me. I have a lot of her hand written recipes too and the only thing I can’t master is her pie crust. Nor my mother in laws either. So frustrating as I love to bake and cook. I absolutely love Nueve’s xmas card!!!! Anyone who is lucky enough to receive one should frame it. Priceless. Good luck too on the trick testing! Cheering you on and wishing you both good luck!
Merry Christmas from our home to yours. I pulled out my fav stamp set Lovely as a Tree and made 50 cards!!! I will send you a pic . Best, Kelli
Ann, I had to let you know that I have been making your “Mama’s Candy” recipe for several years and it is one of the favorites and always requested. Thank you for sharing the recipe!
Very cute card by the way!
What a sweet (no pun intended) walk down memory lane! I love the photos of your mom, and I love her penmanship. Remember when that was actually a thing to be proud of?! (Especially the way she made her t’s!) The candy sounds pretty good, although we are more of a cookies-for-Christmas family than candy! I am interested in the cake! And of course, the card is adorable…..I think they might have made those dies just for you & your pups!
I love the oics, and recipes, and as always, Neuve’s comments! My Mom would have been 109 in July. Yes, i think of her often. I have tried your Mom’s candy. Very tasty. My Mom made candied orange peel at Christmas. I have the recipe, but not the patience to make it. It is a long process. I do miss it, and her Nanamo bars at Christmas.
Hi, Ann, thanks for the recipe. Your Mom was beautiful.
Have a Merry Christmas.
Ann I thoroughly enjoyed the look back regarding your Mom! Can’t wait to try the recipe and look forward to the oatmeal cake recipe. It has been a very tough fall for me. Both my oldest sister and my youngest sister had strokes in October. My middle sister had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital on Thanksgiving because she had double pneumonia and Rhino virus. So I am way behind with any Christmas prep. loved Neuve’s card. Adorable just like him!❤️
tell nueve his card his cute!
and your momma’s candy i will definitely be trying
Such a cute card!! I’m sure all of Nueve’s friends will be very pleased!!
Your mom is beautiful!! It is fun to carry on their traditional recipes. My mom made a delicious oatmeal cake, one of my favorites. She doubled the topping. Yum!! Looking forward to seeing if they are the same. She also made a prune cake with cream cheese frosting, also a favorite. And the famous WWII chocolate Wacky Cake with fudge frosting. The women created this recipe because of the shortage of supplies and rationing.
Hugs and wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas!
Snow just stopped here and the sun is peeking through the gray clouds. I ordered Bernie a coat and he won’t stand still long enough for us to put it on. No walk today anyway.
I love Nueve’s card. So cute. I wanted to work on cards but is watching some documentary on TV while reading the Storm Lake Times to me. He enjoys a couple of columnists that are in that paper. Bernie is now half in my lap snoozing. I guess I can fold my score lines on 30 treat boxes I am making. I guess I only cut 20 for now. Folding them up doesn’t take too much concentration. I don’t need to bake stuff because I don’t need to eat it, my glucose #s are better but I get my blood drawn next week for my A1C.
Bernie has some treats to give Elvis, a dog down the street. He has a new basset friend that lives by the big windmill but we haven’t seen Snoopy (black and white basset) who has other dogs in the house to play with.
Well, Bernie moved to the floor. Maybe I will go upstairs and watch a YouTube video on the computer.
Happy holidays.
