The Paper Players are back from a holiday break with a fun challenge to start the new year off right: Clean Slate…Projects Using the Chalkboard Technique. I opted to frame my “chalkboard” with a gold-embossed ornate frame from Papaya Collage, and selected the romantic sentiment from Follow My Heart. I hope you enjoy my first card of 2014!
The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips: The Chalkboard Technique
This finished card measures 4-1/4″ wide by 5-1/2″ long.
- As easy as 1 -2 -3! The chalkboard technique that I employed was: 1) Ink sentiment with VersaMark and stamp onto Basic Black cardstock; 2) Heat emboss using White Stampin’ Emboss Powder; 3) Add “chalkdust” using an Embossing Buddy. How easy is that!
- The “Midas” touch! Gold Foil cardstock and gold embossing add a touch of elegance, contrasting beautifully with the black cardstock. The hearts are courtesy of the Fashionable Hearts Embosslits, while the banners were created in the wink of an eye using the the new Banners Framelits.
- Sophisticated! Cherry Cobbler and Basic Black, when paired with gold, make a sophisticated statement, perfect for framing the Eiffel Tower image from Follow My Heart!
I hope you enjoyed today’s card. I can’t wait to give it to my husband for Valentine’s Day! It’s not masculine, but I know he will love the sentiment.
I don’t know what the weather is like in your neck of the woods, but it is bitterly cold here in SE Iowa. According to our weather forecast, “a reinforcing shot of Arctic air will arrive on Sunday afternoon and bring dangerously cold wind chills of 35 to 45 below with some wind chills around 50 below zero late Sunday night and Monday morning.” Even though Muffy looks snuggly in her plaid coat with hood, with temperatures like that, the Twins and Lexi will be doing their “jobs” on paper in the garage.
It’s a perfect day to stay inside, stay warm and stamp away! Until next time…

Oh my goodness, Ann! I love the little hearts embossed on gold foil–they really pop. Love the gilded frame for your chalkboard–perfect! Thanks for rockin’ the clean slate challenge!
LOVE your card and know that your sweetheart will as well…who would not love receiving a card from you – especially your hubby and family! I am so in love with our foil papers! Love the picture of Muffy in her plaid outfit. Stay safe and warm and happy the pups have a warm place to do their jobs!
Ann, this is fabulous! I love the red/gold/black combo and the embossing adds so much beautiful shine. Great card for the chalkboard technique and I love how you thought out of the box. Muffy looks adorable in her plaid coat. It’s frigid here in NY too, only 6 degrees today! Keep warm!
‘Jobs on paper in the garage’…that made me laugh! You’re right, the cold, cold weather is not fit for man or beast. Stay warm!
LOVE this card. The gold embossed frame and those scrumptious gold hearts make *my* heart go pitter patter!
Happy New Year, Ann!
Amazing, Ann! Just amazing! Love this!
Just gorgeous, Ann! I love the touch of gold – perfection! Love Muffy’s flannel – hope you guys are doing well with this cold blast! We bought booties for Lexi to use when she has to go out. Much to our surprise, she took to them like a duck to water. She actually runs in them when she goes out – weird!!
I love the card, and I actually thought it looked masculine. I am enjoying all the new projects with silver and gold paired with a solid cardstock.
Wow!!! Beyond stunning. The colors and embossing are beautiful. Your hubby will love it.
I love it a LOT!!!! wow!!! I’m on it in creating something!!! THANKS!!
Super cool! Yeah, both the card and the temps! Muffy looks so cute in her coat. The gold hearts just make this card shine. Love that! For some strange reason I associate pin dots with french designs so the Eiffel Tower looks so appropriate here! Love the colors you used too. Great use of the chalk board technique. Plus, a wonderful valentine for Kim!
Chris R. from Iowa

Beautiful, Ann! What a perfect sentiment to use for this technique. It is COLD here too..had to cancel my hostess appreciation party until next week! Stay warm and snuggle with your pups…they look plenty warm!

Wow, this is absolutely stunning! So elegant with the gold and red! I didn’t realize the chalkboard technique was so easy, I am definitely going to have to try it soon!
Love Muffy’s coat, it looks so warm! We are expecting a blast of frigid air again starting tomorrow with a high of only 12 on Tuesday! Very rare for this part of MD! Stay warm, it’s definitely a good time to stay in and stamp!
Very classy and beautiful card. Love the colors really makes everything pop!
Absolutely love this card. We’re freezing up here in Maine too…perfect weather to squirrel away and stamp!
Stunning card and that red really makes it pop with color. So rich and classy looking.
Muffy sure does look warm all bundled up in her Sunday best.
Stay warm.
The gold adds such richness! And I love the foil embossed!
Great card. The chalk board is super. I have never tried it. Guess it is time. Love the pop of cherry cobbler.
Try to stay warm. It is cold here but for a couple of days we may be getting a heat wave of 40. Should melt some snow.
Oh, I totally agree with B, this card is so elegant and so beautiful. It takes someone like you to make a card like this one. I’m so happy I’m taking your class Ann, I can’t wait.
This is a real beauty, Ann! I love that regal color combo, and the chalkboard stamping is just beautiful. Those gold foil hearts and embossed red Eiffel Tower are the perfect embellishments. Love every little detail, yes, I do! Stay warm!!!
Oh my dear, only YOU could make a chalkboard elegant!! Gorgeous. Stay warm, be careful.
Ann, I love the color combo of the red and gold on the chalkboard. Fabulous card!
