Warmth and Wonder for The Paper Players

It’s Sunday, and time to play with The Paper Players! This week, the talented Anne Marie is hosting a beautiful color challenge:  Pink Pirouette, Old Olive, Raspberry Ripple.  On this cold, Iowa day, I opted to pull out the Warmth and Wonder Hostess Set. I am in love with the Tree and Deer images, which is why this set was a must-have for me. I hope you enjoy today’s card.

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
This finished card measures 4-1/4″ wide by 5-1/2″ long.

  •  A snowflake backdrop! The largest Festive Flurry Framelit forms a wonderful base for our image oval, especially when created from the Raspberry Ripple pattern from the Birthday Basics Designer Series Paper Collection.  A few Basic Pearls accent the details of the shape.
  • Tree-mendous! The Tree image can be used to create clean, modern cards as well as country style cards, and every style  in-between.  I can’t wait to create more cards with it!  I am thinking a country beauty is in my future!
  •  Illuminate! In real life, Illuminate Glimmer Watermark Ink adds a beautiful shimmer to the Glorious Grunge speckles. They are absolutely awesome!

I hope that all of you are staying safe, warm, and healthy.  With temperatures in the single digits, the Twins and Lexi have not wanted to play outside.  You can imagine three bouncing Boxers playing in my small living room. They throw their toys with the force of a major league pitcher.

I hope you enjoyed today’s card.  It took me all day to create it, but not because it is time-consuming.  YouTube drew me into its inner sanctum.  It started innocently enough…and I can blame it on those ornery Boxers.  They LOVE the song, “What Does the Fox Say”.  It has to be the silly cacophony of sounds, coupled with the fact I sing it with their names in place of the animals. I played the video for them.

Before you knew it, I was strolling down memory lane…or rather singing my way down memory lane.  I have such varied musical tastes.  I haven’t met a style of music I didn’t like.  I belted out the classics from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and beyond, while my captive canine audience listened. I was busted flat in Baton Rouge, waitin’ for a train. I poured some sugar on me, and then I felt it was time for a cool change.  I changed the lyrics of  Shooting Star to Rising Star, adding all sorts of Stampin’ Up! references.  I partied at the Love Shack.  I carried on like a wayward son until I was running on empty.  I was working 9 to 5, taking care of business.  Of course, in the spirit of the season, I had to croon White Christmas along with Bing. Then I had to listen to Bing and David Bowie sing The Little Drummer Boy.  Then I had to listen to Pentatonix sing their version.  One song led to another.  Yep…by the time I was done, my imaginary microphone and I had frittered away the afternoon.  But really, it wasn’t a waste.  It certainly didn’t take me long to finish this card once I started.  The creative juices were flowing.

So in ending, I do hope you enjoyed today’s card.  Won’t you let me know in today’s comment?  And never forget that if you ever have a question about the cards I create or the techniques I use, I am only an email away.  Until next time…

  10. Love your card, as always, Ann. But your songfest information is particularly awesome to read about–I can totally imagine you and the boxer-babies enjoying your eclectic mix of music. Thanks for a post that brightened my day!

  11. I didn’t get that stamp set but sure debated about it. I love that little tree and the deer too. You created a great card with the color challenge.

  12. Wild and wonderful! At first, the pink put me off; then it caught my attention. You never cease to amaze me. We are a music family as well and I can picture you having a fun-filled day. I love that hostess set. So many possibilities! Thanks for sharing your day and card. Nancy B

  13. I like the comment that is a “wild” card! I love the snowflake and your treatment with the pearls and the tree. Did you color those pearls? That pink strip is definitely an eye opener! I wanted to get this set but decided to get the envelope liners instead with my credit.

Love your story about the day! It was definitely cold yesterday. I spent the afternoon with Henry singing along with carols on the radio too while I glued some card pieces together. I need to write some short notes and get some of them mailed in the next few days. Then, start over with some other cards using some new toys I received.

  14. Oh Ann, this card is SO pretty! I love these colors together and how you showcased them and the stamp set! It definitely says Country Christmas to me! I had to have this set too so I am going to try to recreate this myself, I hope you don’t mind! I can just see you now, singing along with the music and the furbabies enjoying their mamma playing with them! It’s snowing here now but we are to get freezing rain later, not fun trying to walk on it for people or dogs! Stay warm!

  15. You are so funny! I call that a day in the sunshine! Isn’t it amazing how music just transcends everything. I can listen to music and all of a sudden, my mind starts racing with memories, or energized to do something fun, like creating. I know your babies loved it too that you had time to play with them.

Card is fantastic of course, and what a neat idea to put snowflake behind the image. I agree a wonderful stamp set.

We are in the single digits here too, a really rare even for Texas – this is our 5th day! Yikes I’m running our of groceries.

Thanks Ann for your cherry blog!

  16. LOVE IT – as always!! Sounds like you and the “kids” had a super day! (smile)

  17. Wow – that is one wild card. I love it! Sounds like you had a great day – certainly not a waste – any time spent doing what you love and being happy couldn’t be a waste!
