Take a Walk in the Wild with The Paper Players

It’s Sunday, and time to play with The Paper Players! This week, Jaydee is hosting a Theme Challenge:  Wildlife! This gave me an opportunity to pull out my newest set, Walk in the Wild.  This was a set which I wanted as soon as I saw it, but for some reason, I just kept moving it down the Wish List.  It wasn’t until one of my Lesson of the Month students ordered it, that I decided that I needed it to fill a void.  It is an awesome masculine set, or for anyone who loves wildlife.  I hope you enjoy today’s masculine card.

The Stampin’ Schach’s Design Tips: Masculine
This finished card measures 5-1/2″ wide by 4-1/4″ long.

  • Hokey smoke, Bullwinkle! The Moose from Walk in the Wild was lightly tinted using inks and Blender Pens.  A little Always Artichoke accents the foliage, while Soft Suede adds just a tinge of color to this majestic moose.  Of course, no faux watercoloring is complete without shadowing in Soft Sky.
  • Textile texture! Burlap Ribbon adds a touch of texture.  I trimmed off the stitched sides, and unraveled a couple of strands for more interest.
  • Barn board and pearls!  Three single Pearls, smooth and delightfully feminine, add contrast to the Naturals Ivory Woodgrain embossed panel.  Pearls are totally unexpected on a masculine card, but I love the touch of unexpected, don’t you!

The men in my house expect pearls on their cards.  They know that I love adding pearls to almost every card I make.  In researching the symbolism behind pearls, I discovered that my first name, Margaret, is derived from the Latin word, Margarita, which in turn comes from the Greek word which means…can you guess? Do I even need to say it?  Yep…”Pearl”!  How cool is that!

As always, your comments are important to me.  Won’t you please let me know what you think of today’s card?  And remember, if you ever have any questions about the cards I create, or the techniques I use, I am only an email away.  Until next time…

  14. Ann, I believe you are what the Bible refers to as “the pearl of great price.”

  15. I LOVE it!! But seldom do you create I card that I DON’T love!! You are one of my favorite places to visit, and I have gratefully and unashamedly cased TONS of your cards! I think I could spend 6 months just doing different color combos with “Field Flowers” thanks to your inspiration, Ann! This is a great “guy card” . . pearls and all!

  16. This is a great card, Ann–perfect for guy or gal who love the outdoors. Your woodgrain, burlap and plaid accents are perfect and I love the way you’ve stamped the images off the edge. Fabulous card!

“Walk in the Wild”. Thank you for sharing your techniques, your awesome card and giving me the inspiration to ink up my set.

  20. Love the card. Great choices of color and embellishments. Thanks for sharing.

  21. Love the card Pearl! And the pearls! I was anxious to see what you would do with this set & you surely did not disappoint.

  22. Gorgeous Ann! Love the coloring and all the texture. I didn’t notice the pearls until I read your post and took a 2nd look. They work beautifully with this and that is a lesson for me to try on my manly cards. Love that your name means pearl. Mine is warrior woman…go figure! lol

  23. What a beautiful masculine card, Ann! I didn’t think I needed that designer paper…guess I was wrong! Thanks for helping me change my mind. (smiles) Is it just the angle of the camera or did you use an oval framelit in the top photo and a circle framelit in the bottom photo? I just LOVE the framelits and this card could easily be created with several of them. I think we have come to the conclusion that pearls are not gender specific! They are beautiful any way you use them!

  24. Beautiful card, Ann! Love the info behind your name…who would have guessed? Speaking of, I have a another friend whose name is the same as yours, only she goes by Margaret Ann. Cool!

  25. Breathtaking!! to me the pearls were reminiscent of clouds – or if you felt silly, they could be a smoke signal from a nearby American Native : ) Everything about this card is just extraordinary. No way – your name means pearl????? too cool!

  26. Love your card. You watercolor beautifully! Thanks for the step-by-step and the inspiration.

  27. So handsome! And I didn’t even notice the pearls until you pointed them out! That’s how accustomed I am to them. My guy knows to expect pearls on his cards, too. LOL

  28. You are right Ann, what a great masculine stamp set this is and perfect for this challenge. I love the texture you added with the woodgrain background and burlap trim.
