It’s Sunday, and time to play with The Paper Players! This week the fabulous Nance has a Clean and Simple Challenge for us. The twist is that it must have Leaves. I only needed to look out of window for inspiration. We have a HUGE maple tree in our front yard, with which I have a love-hate relationship.
I LOVE it in the summer, when it shades the entire yard, and I HATE it in the fall when it drops all its leaves. Enjoy today’s card!
The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
This finished card measures 5-1/2″ wide by 4-1/4″ long.
- Pretty as a picture! The Bare Trees image from Lovely As a Tree was inked in Soft Suede and stamped onto Naturals Ivory card stock. It was then cut out using an Oval Framelit. A few Gorgeous Grunge speckles were added. The result reminds me of an antique oval picture.
- Lovely leaves! This fabulous Leaf image is from the Best of Autumn set. It was inked in Cajun Craze, Always Artichoke and Crushed Curry. Of course, a little fussy cutting was in order, as was distressing the edges with Soft Suede ink.
- Beautiful banner! This sentiment, with its fabulous font, is from the Best of Autumn. A curl and a snip is all it takes to add a bit of interest.
Lovely As a Tree is a classic stamp set. One of my friends described it as being “timeless”, and I must say that I agree. What about you? Do you have a favorite set which you feel is a timeless classic? Won’t you let me know in today’s comment? Your comments are always important to me. And remember, if you ever have a question about the cards I create or the techniques I use, I am only an email away! Until next time…
Answers to questions left in previous comments:
Mamcy E: I have no trouble with heat embossing on vellum. I just make sure to keep the heat tool moving. Plus, the Stampin’ Up! heat tool that I use has an option for a lower setting. However, I do use the high setting. Keeping it moving is critical to keep it from scorching.
Luly G: I actually stamped the image two more times…once on Crumb Cake and once on Crushed Curry. I then placed a Perfect Layer ruler on the line and used an Exacto knife to cut the strips.
Stamp sets: Best of Autumn, Gorgeous Grunge, Lovely As a Tree; Inks: Crushed Curry, Cajun Craze, Always Artichoke, Soft Suede; Card Stock: Very Vanilla, Naturals Ivory, Cajun Craze, Always Artichoke; Tools: Big Shot, Woodgrain Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Ovals Collection Framelits, Hexagon Punch, Paper Snips; Glitz and Glam: Naturals Designer Buttons, Linen Thread
Ann, you showcased the Best of Autumn set beautifully and I love the LAAT seems to work every year with every stamp set we release. Gorgeous card.

What a great combination of organic elements: trees, leaves and woodgrain! So much color and texture, but plenty of white space too. Stunning card as always, Ann!
Thanks for the answer to my question. I do think there are many sets that can be timeless. The one I use the most is Teeny Tiny Wishes.
Gorgeous…as always. I love those leaves. The sentiment ROCKS. Thanks for sharing!
Gorgeous way to combine these two stamp images, Ann! Love the leaves…so pretty! And the layout is very catchy—love the oval image. The name of the farm that my family owned was Maple Shade Farm….so I know all about those leaves. I don’t bother to rake them…there are just TOO many!!!
The colorful leaves are a pretty pop on the lovely neutral card.
Gorgeous card Ann! Our next door neighbor’s maple tree shed it’s leaves and they are all over our yard now. Love the banner and that embossed background!
Thanks for adding the comments for those two questions. I was asked about vellum and scorching. But I found out she did hold the heat tool steady and way too close. I can now tell her Ann does it this way!

A beautiful Thanksgiving/fall signature Ann card; I agree 120% with all of the above comments! We have a small tree in our front yard that sits on the border between us and our neighbor. Our grandson and the next door neighbor kept raking our leaves up and jumping in the pile. I went out to rake them up one day and the father stepped out on the porch and asked if I would mind not raking until after Halloween as they liked to pile them around their house for Halloween night. The next day they were out and had them all raked and in the container to be hauled away. Have a great day, Ann, hope the leaf fairy flies by and collects all of your leaves!
What a lovely card! I’m so glad I have that Lovely As A Tree stamp set. It’s a real keeper.
And you are lucky to have such a pretty tree in your yard. We used to mow over the leaves at my parent’s home once most of thre leaves had fallen. Raking was just too much work! 🙂
Gorgeous card Ann! Love the beautiful leaves as well as that pretty tree in your yard! My hubby cut down our only tree this year and I am so sad, but it was dying so it needed to be done.
Thanks Ann – I might need to get that ruler! Beautiful card as always!
Oh my goodness, the maple tree in your yard is breathtaking! The perfect inspiration for this lovely card. From the texture, to the colors, to the antique details…it’s all gorgeous! Thanks for rocking my challenge, Ann!
Mmmmm…I love this…everything works together so nicely from the wood-grain embossing to those gorgeous leaves and the elegant trees. So refreshing and calming.
Beautiful cluster of leaves…on your card, that is! LOL Not on your lawn. 😉
Ann, I’m in love with your card! That big maple leaf is so pretty with lovely as a tree. This is a card I’d have on my mantle through Thanksgiving!
Fabulous!
Lovely card as well as your outside maple tree. Simply gorgeous
No need to rake up the leaves; just mow over them which makes good covering /compost for your yard during the winter months.
Stunning!
