It’s Sunday, and time to play with The Paper Players! This week we are hosting a “Tic-Tac-Toe” challenge. Of course, I just had to select “Pearls” as one of my items. I did step out of my comfort zone, however, and decided to do a little brayering. And boy, did these colors put me outside of “the zone”, too. I know it’s quite different for me, but I hope that you enjoy today’s card.
The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
This finished card measures 4-1/4″ wide by 5-1/2″ long.
- “Mask”-erade! When brayering or sponging, Post It notes make the best masks. I used a Circle Punch to punch out my sun from a Post It note and placed it into position on the card stock. I then brayered right over the top of it. Make sure to punch from the section that has the “sticky” on it!
- Colorific! From top to bottom, I used Marina Mist, Calypso Coral, So Saffron and Old Olive inks to achieve this array of colors.
- Banner basics! Instead of curling one end of this birthday banner, both ends were notched using the Hexagon Punch. The result presents a more tailored look that fits the image better.
I was fortunate a few years ago to be able to take two brayering classes from Michelle Zindorf. Michelle’s brayering is beyond compare, and her tutorials on brayering are fabulous! While I was very happy with my results, brayering is still one of those techniques that definitely takes me out of my “zone”. How about you? What takes you out of your Comfort Zone? Won’t you let me know in today’s comment? Your comments are important to me. And remember, if you ever have questions about the cards I create, or the techniques I use, I am only an email away. Until next time…

Just beautiful, Ann!
Ann, this is stunning! I just love the richness of the colors. You really rocked that stamp set, too. 🙂
Ann this is FABulous! love your colors and it would make a perfect masculine card. I love that set and now I like even better using the brayer technique… I love that too! hugs.
I have a few zones that aren’t always comfy. I see something I love and then I “think”it looks easy ….then it’s NOT! Hugs
You really keep on rockin this stamp set!! I think that is why its was on the backorder list! lol
Love and Hugs
Fabulous brayering, Ann! Such a pretty setting for this stamp. I love how you pulled all the colors together in the matting. Gorgeous!
What a stunning card!!! I just got this stamp set a few days ago but have not had the time to play with it. Think I will try to fashion one similarly but not the brayering…I too am out of my comfort as well…but what a great card! Guess I need to find a brayering class….TFS!
Oh my goodness, Ann, but this is a work of art! The color palette is rich and lifelike, and the stamping is perfection. Wow….this is one of my all time faves!
Ann, your card is awesome! Love the colors!!! I’m so happy that I got to meet you and sit next to you for those two classes. I haven’t made very good use of what I learned though.
Wow,this is amazing, Ann! Using a brayer takes me waaay out of my comfort zone but you did a fantastic job! Fabulous colors, too.
Ann, you should go out of your comfort zone more often, this card is absolutely beautiful. I love it and you could never tell that you werent in your comfort zone. Thanks so much for sharing this beautiful card.
Wowsers, another brilliant card! SO glad that I finally ordered this stamp set! All because of your beautiful cards! You should frame this one!! 🙂 Jennifer, Calgary
Absolutely stunning, Ann. One of my favorite cards of yours ever!! You rocked the technique, despite being out of your comfort zone.
Ann, this is a work of art, suitable for framing! You definitely aced this technique; it’s hard to believe that braying is outside of your zone! You should be doing more of this!!
Wonderful scene you’ve created here, Ann! You are lucky to have learned from the brayering “master”!! I love the rustic fall colors…a real masterpiece!
This may be out of your comfort zone but you sure rocked whatever zone you were in . This is a beautiful card – the colors are stunning.
Love, love, love it!!! Absolutely stunning!
Absolutely gorgeous!!!
Love it!!!!
Crap, my comment didn’t take. Anyway, I love this card! Oh, how I wish this was my birthday and the card was winging it’s way to me! Love the colors and that goose is so lifelike! Love the tip about the post a note – punching the sticky part of it. I did that once and was in a hurry and the back didn’t have any sticky on it and it took me quite awhile to realize what I had done. This card is just totally amazing with it’s color and depth! Love the touch of the pearl!

I really like your card and this is one of my favorite SU! stamp sets so I appreciate your directions. Once I tried brayering and was not successful but using a makeup sponge works pretty well.

Lovely! I had the opportunity to take one of Zindorf’s classes as well and found it valuable. I think your card is a gorgeous example of brayering. Hope all is well w/you and your crew.
Beautiful card – I love Michelle’s brayering – wish I had an opportunity to attend one of her classes…I wind up using sponges for this effect – feel like I have more control…gorgeous card!

Your card is gorgeous! Water-coloring takes me out of my comfort zone. Shading, shadowing, light-handedness — ugh, but I do try. Clean and simple is a challenge too. I love vintage and your works of art. Thanks for giving us a look into your “Zindorf” work. She is awesome as well. Hope the dogs are well! Nancy B
Ann, this is beautiful, a real work of art! Thanks for sharing.
Love it. I was fortunate to take Michelle’s class also. This set is perhaps my favorite in the whole catty. Have to give your card a try.
Beautiful card, colors, and technique are spectacular. Thanks for sharing and the inspiration to get out of our comfort zone.
LOVE the card. Doesn’t look like you had any problems brayering to me..lol
Thanks for sharing your wonderful talent.
I haven’t tried this technique as yet but looking at your beautifly made card it’s a must to try. Here’s hoping my cards look as good as this one. Thanks for sharing.
Do you stamp the bird first or after brayer? Great card!
Wow! Ann, this is gorgeous! your brayering is fantastic!
Wow!!! The brayered background is beautiful. Love the color combination. Glad you went out of your ‘zone.’ You sure did a lot better with Michelle’s class than I did!
You are definitely IN the zone with this one, Ann! Love your choice of colors. Beautiful card!
What a beautiful card – this is a technique I do not do very often and each time I find a blog sharing this technique I wonder why I do not play with it once in a while.
What a stunning card, Ann. I have not attempted any brayering yet ~ way too intimidating for me!

OMG, this card is absolutely awesome! The colors are fabulous and your brayering is beautiful! You could teach a class in it yourself! I have to say, brayering is probably top on my list of things that take me out of my comfort zone, along with the shabby chic look (even though I love it)! Thanks for sharing such a gorgeous card with us today!
Wow Ann, what a beautiful card. The colors are gorgeous – perfect for this time of year.

Love he brayering…….looks fabulous!
I meant brayering, sorry. Oh, and what takes me out of my comfort zone…brayering more than one color, cas designs with lots of white space, and coloring images with markers (I’m ok with coloring the stamp and applying to paper though). I’m sure I can think of a few more but I’ll leave it at that. Have a wonderful Sunday!
Ann, this is gorgeous! I love all the colors of the braying. Boy, I haven’t done this technique in ages! You’ve matted this beautifully and Mr. Goose just pops off the page. I like the addition of the white gel pen too. My son and I just saw a flock of low flying geese overhead yesterday. He wished them a good flight and hopes they stayed safe. ; )
STUNNING card Ann! Love it 🙂
Holy Moly what a surprise – very well done. Love the colors. Thanks for sharing.
Wonderful card! Thanks for the design info and tips. Your colors are sensational. Well done!
Zowie – that card jumped right out and punched me in the eyes – in a good way, a very good way! Love the colors, the image, your usual wonderful attention to detail, like the tailored banner. All in all a stunning card. Lots of things take me out of my comfort zone – vintage, anything blue, anything very “girly”, anything I don’t particularly love but I know the recipient does….you name it : )
