Brady found a young hummingbird on the ground Wednesday. Like his mother, Brady is a soft hearted soul. He picked it up gently, placed it into a tree, and then came inside to ask me what to do.
I prepared a sugar water solution, and filled up a syringe. Since hummingbirds are attracted to the color, I punched out a Real Red flower using the Blossom Punch and slipped it over the end.
It drank eagerly. Brady fed it several times during that first hour.
While Lexi watched from the porch with concern.
By the end of hour three, our little hummer was feeling chipper enough to fly away. Lexi laughed.
Holiday Shares
It’s once again time for my annual Holiday Catalog shares! Participating in shares allows you to sample a little bit of everything while not breaking the bank! I do the ordering, the measuring, the cutting, the packaging and the mailing, while you sit back and relax, and dream about your soon-to-be-delivered goodies!
Why should you participate in The Stampin’ Schach Shares? Here are four great reasons:
- Quick delivery! I expedite my share orders to Stampin’ Up! The sooner I receive them, the sooner you can start playing with your goodies!
- Packaging! Designer Papers are identified for you, so you don’t have to play “Which collection is this?” Ribbons are neatly coiled, not just thrown in a bag.
- Amounts! You receive 6″ x 12″ rectangles of paper, not 6″ x 6″ squares. That’s a plus for those of you who scrapbook! Plus, the 10 yard rolls of ribbon are divided into fourths, while the 5 yard rolls of ribbon are cut in half. This way you receive approximately 2-1/2 yards of ribbon…1/2 yard more than many others are offering.
- A chance to win! Everyone who purchases a Holiday Catalog share will have their names entered into a drawing for a FREE “I Want It All Bundle” from the 2014 Spring Catalog.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed your birdie story. We get hummers outside my work area all the time and I love them. This would be a great story for Stampin’ Success. thanks for sharing.
Woof woof!!!!!
Oh Ann, how sweet. You gave me a tear of happiness. Hugs,
I’m speachless! Such kindness, thoughtfulness, ingenuity! And you passed it all on to your two and four legged kids! Go you!! You’ll send this to SU won’t you???
Love it. The story and Brady and you making the red flower. AWESOME…and to Lexi…she understood.
OK… you know this makes me happy! Way to go Brady! Ann…. that red cut out is such a stunning idea. Amazing. I am so glad the little hummer felt well enough to fly away. You both rock!
Hugs
Jaydee
Wonderful photos and story! You need to submit it to SU and they need to share it with everyone! Thank goodness you didn’t take the time to do one of your fab snipping jobs on the flower and just punched it out. What a great idea! Maybe the Hawkeye would do a little article and gain some free SU advertising?!?!?! Love the Lexi photos too!
Chris R. from Iowa
What darling photos (the hummingbird and Lexi!). Yes, Brady is just like his mom.
My brother has a hummingbird feeder on the corner of his deck. They are so pretty to watch. Perhaps your little guy will come visit again.
Love this story, Ann! Lucky little hummingbird! Love the pics too! Thanks for sharing!
What a wonderful story! Heart warming with a very clever idea (the red flower)!
Thank you for sharing that. I love how creative you were with the flower punch and the hummingbird seemed to love it too. 🙂
awwwwww! Thanks for my morning maker 🙂
How sweet! Another chapter for your book, “Lexi and the Hummingbird.”
So glad you and Brady take such good care of God’s creatures. Bless you both.
Oh how sweet! Love your idea of putting the flower on the end of the syringe. You never know when an SU product will come to the rescue. I have a navy knit shirt that I love and hubby got a little wild with the bleach when my shirt was hanging in the laundry room. I now “spot treat” the bleach stains with my Night of Navy marker after each washing, ha ha!
I just love your stories. So animated and fun to read. You made my day! Thanks so much for sharing!
Oh Ann, what a wonderful experience to be able to see this amazing winged jewels up close and personal. The red flower on the improvised feeder was a stroke of genius!! I’m so happy he recovered and was able to fly away. Thank you for those amazing pictures!
Such a lovely sweet story Ann! Bless you and Brady (and little Lexi for not barking and scaring the little guy). Who knew that your cardstock could save a life! Must have been dehydrated and exhausted. Oh, just so sweet Ann! We feed the hummers here and they are my favorites. My two labs scare them away with their panting or moving too quickly. I have to move them indoors when the hummers are feeding. lol. Thanks for the touching story. Have a very blessed day.
Your hummingbird story is the absolute best! And you captured it in a photo journal! LOVE it!
Wow, now that is a use for Stampin’ Up products I’ve not heard before! What genius, Ann! You and Brady are such kind souls.
Probably my fave “paper crafting” post of yours ever, Ann. Love the kind hearted gesture of your son, and you, too. Wish more folks would care for the nature around us like this!
Hummingbirds are my absolute favorite. I love watching by hummrs feed from my screened porch.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful story.
Here’s to soft hearts! loved your happy ending story . . a wonderful start to my day.
Great pictures. What a wonderful story. I love happy endings.
Oh my….I can’t believe you were able to get pictures of this “event”! And so happy SU had Real Red CS to help you out…as well as your four-legged helper!
I just love that you added a flower to the feeder to help him out! Yea Brady! Soft hearts are a wonderful thing.
So glad your hummingbird story had a happy ending!
