Shabby Faux Cloisonne for The Paper Players

It’s Sunday…and do you know what that means? It’s time to play with The Paper Players! This week the incomparable Nance Leedy has quite the challenge for us:  Use a repurposed or recycled item on your project.  I decided to re-purpose some magazine pages while using the “Faux Cloisonne” technique.  I can’t wait to see what YOU repurpose or recycle!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips: Faux Cloisonne
This finished card measures 4-1/4″ wide by 5-1/2″ long.

  • Faux Cloisonne is as easy as 1-2-3! 1.  Stamp the image with VersaMark onto a magazine page.  I find that fashion magazines like Harper’s Bazaar or Vogue are filled with artsy images in a myriad of colors.  2Heat and emboss.   3.  Snip!
  • How cool is the result?  The leaves were punched using the Bird Builder Punch…once again from magazine pages.  A Floral Trim flower, tinted Rose Red was added to the middle. Need a refresher on how to tint these flowers?  Click HERE to watch the video.

  • Emboss with dies! After seeing this technique on Lisa Eisner’s blog, Crafting with Princess Lisa, I had to give it a try.  Once again, it’s as easy as pie.  Ink the flat side of  framelets (I used the Labels Collection) with VersaMark, and position as shown, with the cutting edge facing up…away from the paper…and zip it through the Big Shot.
  • Don’t you love the look?
  •   I snipped it out with paper snips, and added a piece of lace from the Artisan Embellishment collection.
  • Brayer a layer! Crumb Cake ink, brayered onto a Paper Doily, looks much more subtle than plain white.

What a mess I ended up with! I just had to snap a picture of it.  I usually put things away as I go, but not this time.  Yikes!

Then I couldn’t decide if I wanted to keep the second blossom on, but as you can see at the top of the page, I removed it.  Here is the one with the extra flower:

Which one do you like the best…one flower or two?  Won’t you let me know in today’s comment?  Your comments are important to me, and I do read each and every one of them.  Of course, if you have any questions about the cards I create, or the techniques I use, I am only an email away! I will be away doing “dog” business today…Brody gets evaluated to see if he can return to showing, so I will be away from the computer until evening, so be patient if you need to contact me.  And don’t forget…

Stampin’ Up! is offering FREE SHIPPING April 6th, 7th, and 8th. There are still two days to take advantage of this amazing opportunity! Until next time…

  8. I don’t comment, but I read a few of the comments on this page “Shabby Faux Cloisonne for The Paper Players”. I actually do have 2 questions for you if it’s
allright. Could it be only me or does it look like like a few of the responses appear like they are left
by brain dead folks? 😛 And, if you are writing at
other online social sites, I would like to keep up with you.
Would you make a list of the complete urls of your social networking sites like your Facebook page, twitter feed, or linkedin

  9. Beautiful card and I really like the look you got with the dies. I prefer the one-flower card. And I can certainly identify with your work space in the photo. The only problem is my looks like most of the time!! Good luck to Brody.

  10. Very cool embossing idea! Love the card and I think I like both flowers, but then I love flowers on the cards. 🙂

  11. Ann your card is so pretty and I do like the single flower version. I also love you little tip about using versamark on the framelits. I’ll be sure to give that a try soon. hugs.

  12. What a lovely card…I’ve not tried that cloisonne technique, but it looks like fun! I like the one with the single flower the best, I guess! And Lisa’s embossing technique is wonderful! TFS!

  13. Very cool technque, Ann! Ican’t wait to try that out with my dies. I hate when you ask which card is better. Seriously? They are both beautiful and full of Shach-tastic style! 🙂 (I’m cracking up at Nance’s comment above! Tee hee!)

  14. i love the final version, with one flower, love your card very ‘artsy’.TFS

  15. One flower. I have never heard or seen Faux Cloissone, but it is beautiful!

  16. this card turned out fabulous Ann-love the single flower one-the faux cloisonne technique is awesome-and the die embossing really sets everything off-another beauty

  17. Gosh…I was so stunned by your card, I forgot to answer your question. I like the one flower better. I think it makes it look more clean with the one flower and keeps the attraction on the center focal point of interest. It’s like every time I see one of your cards I am in awe. This just screams, “Holy buckets of gorgeousness”! Again, thank you so much for sharing. You are awesome!

  18. Oh my goodness..Wow…..Stunning!!! You should display in an Art Gallery. Thank you so much for sharing! Awesome job!!!

  19. I guess I am in the minority, but I love the two flowers, especially the second flower that you took off the first card.

    Marlene

  20. Beautiful technique that I had totally forgotten about. Your results are just stunning. I like the one flower personally. I agree with the designers who believe that working with odd numbers has the best eye appeal. Gorgeous use of the paper doily and the lace together. Dar

  21. I think I like the one flower the best. BUT all your cards are great, and thanks for keeping it real and showing the mess, lol.

    Shirley

  22. Thanks for the interesting new techniques to try! I am glad you included the two flower card… it is easier to see how the cloissonne effect can work on that flower. Depending on the magazine/book you choose — your look would be entirely different. This card is so FULL of great ideas!

  23. Love that idea the way you used the dies….How creative!!! It’s a beautiful card.

  24. Great card! I like the one flower idea but I really liked the flower you didn’t use. How did it look instead of the flower you used? Probably not the pop of color. Well, you will just have to use it on another card to show us! I have never tried the faux cloisonne though I love the look of cloisonne. Guess, I need to put that on my To Do List since I had forgotten about it! Oh, and that other technique with the dies is really cool too! Let us know about Brody and looking forward to reading Muffy’s thank you note for her Easter goodies!

  25. Love the neat embossing tip and the flowers are gorgeous – so I like seeing two of them!

  26. One flower – definately – you always make the best choice. Thanks for all the great ideas you share with us.

  27. Fantastic recycling ideas here, Ann! The faux cloisonne is gorgeous and I love how you took the recycled elements and incorporated them into your own style. As AM says, it’s Schach-a-licious!

  28. Beautiful card Ann! It’s so girly and frilly…just my style. Thanks for the tip on embossing with the framelits. I like the card without the second lower the best. Thanks for sharing!

  29. What a beautiful card, Ann! I like the card with one flower better. I’ll have to try the faux cloisonne technique.

  30. so cool! I want to try both techniques now.
    Love your stuff Ann

  31. Love, love, love the embossing technique….will use that today!! The single flower card is my fave…

  32. I like the card with just one flower. It creates a beautiful focal point for your card. The second flower confuses the eye as it doesn’t know where to go. The cloissone effect is very cool! Will have to check that out! Thanks for sharing.

  33. What an elegant and stunning card! I like both of them but like the one with one flower a little better! I love how you did the cloissonne technique, just beautiful! Thanks for all the tips!

  34. Your final card is gorgeous, but it is hard for me to see what parts of the magazine page you used on the card.

  35. The single flouwer design is perfect and my question is about the flower. How did you do that – not the rose but the one that is the dark color with the white edges? Also I love the softness of the two ribbons, as it gives it a nice contrast from the classic look of the dark flower. Does this make sense? I don’t have the stamp set, but I believe I have a retired set that will work just as well, and I plan to try it soon. Thanks so much for your creativity and for sharing with us.

  36. I like the one with one flower better. The single flower rose on top of the embossed flower really makes the card pop. Thanks for the tutorials. I plan to try all of them. You do such amazing work. I love it.

  37. I like both cards! great idea! I like the cloissonne effect too! and the technique with the framelits, over the top! Thanks for sharing, I will have to try this.

  38. I like them both but prefer the one flower. THanks for sharing.

  39. Wow – that embossing technique with the dies is amazing. Never would have thought of that! My preference would be to have just the one blossom OR to put that bigger one under the smaller one. Just seems to my eye to take away from the rest of the card when it’s up in that right corner. Thanks for the tips!
