It’s Thursday, and time to play with the Pals at Pals Paper Arts! This week is our monthly color challenge, and what a challenge it was for me: Certainly Celery, Bashful Blue and Marina Mist. I had to put on my thinking cap for this one, and then it ended up taking me three tries to come up with this card. Part of my problem was that I wanted to do something that was not floral, because I have done so many paper snipped floral cards lately. Plus, I didn’t want to do a baby boy card. But in the end, because these colors were outside of my comfort zone, I ended up using a stamp set with which I felt comfortable…Field Flowers. I was right back to making a paper snipped floral card…again. And to top it all off, I could not get the colors to photograph correctly. But as Scarlett O’Hara said in Gone with the Wind, “…Tomorrow is another day…”
The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
This card measures 4-1/4″ wide by 5-1/2″ long.
- Make it glittery! Adding glitter to any card is a breeze! Use Stampin’ Up!’s Two Way Glue Pen to add adhesive, spoon on a little Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter, and shake off the excess. I think it looks extra yummy on these Bashful Blue Field Flower blossoms, which have been overstamped with Marina Mist. Five pearls in the corner are the pearl-fect touch!
- “Make it work!” That’s what Tim Gunn of Project Runway would say to his designers faced with a design challenge. So I was determined to make these colors work for me. I unified with a common design element…circles and dots! And really…this is not Lucky Limeade. It truly is Certainly Celery! (In the true spirit of the scientist I once was, I discovered that if I place my laptop screen straight up, it does look truer to color.)
- Make your own background paper! I took 1/2″ strips of Marina Mist and Bashful Blue designer paper patterns and created my own herringbone design. Although most of it is covered up, I like the way the snippets of it look, peeking from behind the other mats.
I wish all of you could see this card up close and personal. The colors really are pretty together. Does anyone else ever have problems with colors not photographing correctly? I know I had problems with my Paper Player card from Sunday, but I blamed it on the dark Early Espresso next to the white.
What do you think of this color combination? Won’t you let me know in today’s comment? As always, your comments are important to me. And remember…if you ever have a comment about the cards I create or the techniques I use, I am only an email away. Until next time…
Another beautiful card, Ann! Great job with the challenge colors!
you definitely “made it work!” love the dazzle in the flower centers and your stunning bouquet!
Ann your snipped bunch of flowers is gorgeous, although I do have to admit this color combo is not what I think of when I think “Ann Schach”, but you certainly made it work….as if there was a doubt about that!
love the pieced background too, reminds me of a comfy blanket. Now about those photos… do I really have to say how I struggle with photos…Not. I ALWAYS struggle with photos. I really must break down and buy a light box! hugs.
What a beautiful card! I love how you did the background. Very creative. The colors go together well, too.
Ann,
This card is beautiful, I have the stamp set and will now use more. I love the way you pieced the background. I love, love, love it. Your work is always wonderful and you are so talented.
Fabulous card!!! The backgrounds behind the flowers are wonderful – love blues…and the flowers are amazing! TFS!
I love, love, love it!!! What a great idea to make your own background with strips of paper. I did something similar years ago but nothing this beautiful. Such a neat color combination!
Beautiful, Ann. Love the 3D effect you’ve achieved.
Mike
Ann! This is gorgeous. Love the bargello and all of your pretty accents.
Stunning card!
Stunning card!
Beautiful, Ann! Love the color combo and the combination of polka dots with the flowers is great.
What a fun card! I like blue and green together. Maybe that is one reason I love the new little pad of paper from the spring mini – I have used most of those colored sheets out of it! I love the polka dots! We never tire of your amazing florals! This is a fun touch with the glitz and glamour mixed in there. Just a fun card with lots of cool details! Plus, the pearls!

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
I am wild about this color combination! Blues and greens are my favorites, and I love them together also. So, this card is really special to me.
I am so impressed with the herringbone background that I hardly notice the flowers. Wow!
I love the cluster of flowers! Glad you decided to snip some out!
As stunning as I imagined it would be based on the peek yesterday! What a lovely herringbone background you made with the paper strips; such a clever idea! The glitter flowers are very lovely as well.
I have more trouble with lighting than with colors being true, so I’ve been thinking about stepping up my photo editing program. That might help for the color issues you’re experiencing?? That aside, the card still looks lovely!
This is one of my favorite cards that you have created. Why you ask?–you used my favorite stamp set, some awesome colors, great details with the embellishments and created such a wonderful background. The glam on this card just speaks to me too. Dar
I like the color combo. Your flowers are beautiful. Love the glittery centers.
I sure will miss Bashful Blue and Certainly Celery (and Pretty in Pink).
This is just lovely! I LOVE blues & greens together! And I would never get tired of your floral creations!
Do you have a tool for neutral backgrounds in your photo editing program? I use Picasa, and that little tool they have is so helpful in bringing the background to white and “truing” up all the other colors as well!
Ann this card is absolutely gorgeous and the design elements are amazing. Stay true to who you are since it all comes together so delightfully! I’m a flower girl too and I love snipping. Field Flowers happens to be one of my comfort stamps. Power to the flower! LOL !
Beautiful!
Love this color combo…really Springy…
This card is so pretty. My favorite part is how you used the 1/2 inch strips of paper to create the background! I tend to save lots of scraps and this is a wonderful way to use them up! Great card and idea!
Oh Ann, you can never make too many floral cards for me! I love these colors and you’ve put them together so beautifully! That herringbone background is just awesome, you always think of the most unique things! Love the glitter in the flower centers too, really adds a touch of elegance, along with those pearls! What a gorgeous card!
This is a beautiful card. I see, however, that certainly celery, and bashful blue will be gone in July. I think that ALL demonstrators and customers should contact Stampin’Up to KEEP these colors. There are very few greens
that work with everything, like Certainky Celery.
Ann, I love all the pretty details you’ve added like the glitter, lace tape , pearls…all of them add up to one spectacular card!
As always, Ann, your work is beautiful! I think you hit this one out of the park.
Wow, what a breathtaking card, in the true sense of the word – I gasped when I saw it. First, if I have to have blue, I do like it with green. Second, we all know I love polka dots. This card is both modern, retro, and sort of shabby chic all in one. I’m impressed!! I have trouble photographing anything, so can’t go by me. Funny story – back in the 60s I had a trapeze dress that was blue and green, loved it, got caught in the rain on the way to work, didn’t know it would shrink – not the “trapeze” part, but it shrunk UP and it was already short. Had to take a cab home from Philly to South Jersey because I was actually indecent. And yet I still love green and blue together : )
Gorgeous card, Wonderful color combination and do love them flowers
Your creation is stunning! And since I’m a flower lover you can never make too many flower cards as far as I’m concerned. I especially like your herringbone background…it really adds that extra, extra element that makes the card so special. Thanks so much for sharing.
What a beauty, Ann. Love the glitter in the center…I think it really makes this card!
I completely understand your frustration with the colors not looking true. So many times the camera and/or the computer screen distort the real color. Thank goodness we can post the recipe and people know what colors were used whether it looks like it or not!
Don’t sweat the small stuff, Friend!
I love those colors – looks like Spring is coming to your house! Thanks Ann – just gorgeous
Fabulous card Ann!
Lovely card Ann. I have this stamp set and I love it!! This flowers always come up great, no matter what color you use. The touch of glitter in their centers look really pretty and this color combination works great. Thank you for sharing.
The card is beautiful. Love these flowers and the herringbone. It all goes together to make such a pretty card. I don’t think I would have put those colors together but they really do look great.
