Warm Winter Mittens for The Paper Players

It’s Sunday, and time to play with The Paper Players! This week, our challenge is hosted by the oh-so-talented Nance Leedy.  What a classic sketch she has created for us! With cooler temperatures on the horizon, what could be better than a sweet little pair of “mitties” with a hint of retro-vibe.  Enjoy!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips: Retro-licious!
This finished card measures 4-1/4″ wide by 5-1/2″ long.

  • Mitties!  For a country-retro vibe, what works better than Baja Breeze and Cherry Cobbler!  A little Early Espresso reindeer adds a dose of cuteness.  Suspending them with Baker’s Twine from an over-sized retired Stampin’ Up! button seemed to be the perfect solution for attaching them to the card!
  • Scandinavian styling! The Nicely Knit Stampin’ Around Wheel adds a traditonal Scandinavian pattern.  To make this element a little wider, I added the Lines and Dots images from Make a Mitten.
  • Sentimental! What could be a better sentiment  for a warm winter mittens card than Warm Winter Wishes, from Winter Memories!

I hope you enjoyed today’s card! I don’t often say this about my cards, because I usually find some little thing that I would like to change, but I liked this one.  I think it is because it reminded me of a pair of mittens I wore half-a-century ago.  Isn’t that the way it goes sometimes?  You connect with something because it brings back pleasant memories of days done by…

So what do you think of today’s card?  Don’t you just love those little reindeer? Won’t you let me know in today’s comment?  Your comments are important to me, and I do read each and every one.  And as always, if you ever have any questions about the cards I create, or the techniques I use, I am only an email away…

  30. Now THAT is lovely…it’s not that bilious acid green everyone seems to think is lovely, and isn’t!!! I’m so sick of seeing that green everywhere!! Wonderful balance and color scheme on this one. LOVE it!

  31. Cool! I knew you were expecting that! I had mittens like those too only mine were white with red trim with a reindeer with a red nose! I remember mom bought them for me to wear on the Eagles Christmas float with a white sweatshirt, red corduroy pants and ear muffs. Luckily it wasn’t one of those colder winter days with the wind whipping off the Mississippi and down Jefferson Street!

Anyway, I love the card and all the fun elements. Even the string/twine reminds me of when mom would run the string through the coat arms so I wouldn’t lose my mittens when I took them off (esp. in kindergarden).

Hope you are having a good time and the girls are racking up some wins. Have a safe trip home.

  32. I didn’t have either of those sets on my wishlist – not because they aren’t sweet, but because I have others like it – but you have officially changed my mind! This is darling and these sets are now on my next order!

  35. Darn you Ann! I was determined not to get this set but you are making me re-think that! Such a warm and cozy card, love the colors and all the wonderful details that you are so famous for! It definitely brings back memories of playing in the snow as a kid! Absolutely adorable!

  36. Beautiful Ann! Your extended wheel pattern is wonderful as well as all the texture and patterns. They blend beautifully. This is such a cozy card and sweet with memories of years gone by. Makes me think of sledding with 3 pairs of jeans on because we didn’t have snow/ski pants. I’m surprised I could move! We’d stay out as long as we could stand and come in all wet (gloves included) and need hot cocoa. Ah, the good old days!

  37. This is such a cute card, Ann! Love how you hung the mittens from that big button.

  38. You must not make me want this set!! Oh my goodness Ann…love every detail. Your embossed layer looks like a sweater here. Awesome card!
