The Open Sea for The Paper Players

It’s Sunday and time to play at The Paper Players.  This week we have a color challenge featuring a Terrific Trio consisting of Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler and Not Quite Navy.  Since I needed a masculine card, I reached for one of my favorite masculine sets, The Open Sea.  I also opted to try the Triple Time Stamping Technique that is quite popular now.  I hope you enjoy today’s card!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips

This finished card measures 4-1/4″ wide by 5-1/2″ long.

  • A triple treat! The trick to Triple Time Stamping is stamping three layers at one time.  Here are the dimensions of the three layers:  2″ x 3-1/4″ (mat = 2-1/4″ x 3-1/2″), 3″ x 4-1/4″ (mat = 3-1/4″ x 4-1/2″), 4″ x 5-1/4″ (mat = 4-1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5-1/2″ to form the card base).  I used Naturals Ivory card stock for the images and matted with Crumb Cake card stock.  I lightly adhered the Naturals Ivory pieces into position, and then randomly stamped the Ship image in Not Quite Navy and the Compass in Cherry Cobbler.  To add a little texture, I zipped the stack through the Big Shot with the Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  Next, I just matted the stamped images onto Crumb Cake card stock and rebuilt the stack.
  • Slip ‘n slide! To add a punch of color, Not Quite Navy Taffeta Ribbon was slipped through a Ribbon Slide and layered over Crumb Cake Seam Binding.
  • Everything goes better with Pearls! A single Basic Pearl accents the tiny sentiment tags!

At first I wasn’t quite certain if this technique would work well for a masculine card, but I think it does.  What do you think?  Won’t you let me know in today’s comment?  At any rate, I know the recipient of this card will love it.  It is headed to Brady, who left for grad school at the University of Missouri yesterday.  If  you have wondered where I have been this past week and why I was missing in action, Brady and I were getting in some quality “Mother-Son” time.  I feel so badly because I was unable to accompany him and his dad as they set up his new apartment.  However, someone had to stay home with the Twins and Lexi, and since I couldn’t drive the small moving van we rented and because I cannot help carry furniture, I had to stay home.  Of course, the dogs  knew something was up when they saw things being loaded.  But as sad as his leaving is, it is the start of a new adventure for Brady and a time of adjustment for all! Until next time…

  4. I have seen a lot of cards using this technique but this is my favourite by far! The texture you’ve added really makes the whole card pop and the combination of images and colours work together fabulously (I reached for this set too!). Thanks for the great colour challenge!

  5. I learned this technique not too long ago at a SU workshop and am so inspired by your card today. It is a fun and easy technique, but the result is impressive, as your handsome card demonstrates.

Best of luck to Brady in his new position! What a thrill it must be, yet I would imagine some sadness at seeing him gone from home. It has got to help seeing him achieve this kind of success at his age.

  6. This is an absolutely stunning card, great selection of images for this color combo and love the dimension those layers give.

  7. I’ve been wanting to try this technique and I have this stamp set, so you know what I’ll be doing this weekend. LOVE this card creation, especially the “texture” you’ve given to it.

  8. I love this card and hadn’t thought about doing this style with anything other than a flower.

It’s such a hard thing when our children fly from the nest but you’ve given him the wings to soar and trust me on this one…you will always be the wind beneath his wings.

  9. Not only does it work for this card and this set, it ROCKS! Fabulous card, my friend. Love this technique with these stamps and the lattice texture is the perfect choice. I am certain Brady loved it and we sure do!

I have been checking your blog but in too much of a hurry to leave a comment. Sorry
I love the pictures of the Twins and Lexi. My has Lexi gotten to be a big girl already.
I know you are happy and sad at the same time about Brady.
Tell him I hope he has a fun learning experience.
Hi to the Twins and Lexi from over here.

  17. Hi Ann, I love your layered masculine card. You used one of my very favorite stamps too.Your card came out beautiful and I am certain tha the man who will be recieving this card wil love it.

Congratulations to your son. This is a huge change for you, your husband and for your son, Brady. I think it is always toughest on the Mom when our children leave home to begin thier new adventures. It hit me very hard when my daughter left home and then my sone did 2 years later. I had empty nest syndrome for sure. But it got easier as each day passed. I got to enjoy thier accomplishments as young adults. You will too. Brady has a very bright future ahead of him, I’m sure.

    Mary

  18. Hold the phone! This is absolutley ANN-TASTIC, my friend! I keep wanting to try that technique but seriously, I think this is the best card I have seen with the triple layer trifecta. That ribbon slide finishes everything off perfectly. Thanks for a fabby mix of colors this week! Hope you had a great weekend! hugs! 🙂

  19. Ann, this is so nice. Really eye catching!

  20. It’s a wonderful card! Not sure how you managed to get all the images on the layers lined up but it’s perfect!

I’m sure you were sad to see Brady leave but it is probably a new adventure for him. 🙂

  21. I have this set, and I love what you have made with it. The technique is one I have been wanting to learn, also the embossing adds a lot. Thanks also for the good directions. It really makes a difference.

  22. Nice work! It’s very dramatic…and very masculine. I like the slide!

  24. I think this is a great masculine card. I like the colors and the layering technique. Great card! Thanks.

  25. MAJOR FABULOUS!!! Thanks for blessing my day! 🙂

  26. What a great card for Brady, Ann! This is one of those bitter sweet times in life, isn’t it. This triple-stamping technique creates a great effect. Love your choices! Thanks for sharing!!!

  27. Ann I think this is perfect for Brady. Ann I can certainly relate to the “off in the van” to University. That nest…omg! I am really feeling it with Jordan getting married Friday! The card is perfect and I know he will love it. I like the bitsy punched love you. I think I punched a bazillion when I got my punch because I was so in love with the micro. Now, how did you do the boats to match on all 3 layers, I looked and read and still don’t get it? Did you only put the frames on top or carefully stamp 3 times? The ribbon is a great topper. xox

  28. I really like that triple technique! Very nice card! Thanks for idea!

  29. I think this is a terrific card and a great way to give your son a nice little thought since you couldn’t be there when he moved in! I haven’t tried that technique yet….but it looks great!

  30. Wonderful masculine card. That stamp set is made for those colors. Great job!

  31. Fab masculine card. It is a triple treat–love the colors, the images, and the reason for the card. Brady will be so happy when he receives it. I wish him well as he starts Grad School.

p.s. Happy Belated Birthday to the Twins.

  32. Wow, wow, wow! Love these stamps with this technique. It looks terrific and a perfect guy card. So sorry you missed out on Brady’s move but as I’ve learned, this is a tough part of letting go. It seems they’re grown and gone before we realize it happened. Hopefully this is the start of a wonderful next step in his life. Hi to my three favorite boxers.

  33. Love this triple time stamping technique, but have only done it on non-embossed c/s! What a great idea to emboss it after stamping! This is such a great masculine card! I love your crisp clean images!

  34. This is a great masculine card! The color combo is perfect for the Open Sea stamp set. I love, love, love the layering of ribbons!! To me, that is the piece de resistance!

  35. GORGEOUS Ann! Wow! I can’t believe it! I may need to case this my friend! This is one of my favourite sets and I never thought to Triple TIme with it!!!!

  37. This is so beautiful, I love it

  38. Ahhh, RaeDeen beat me to the “smooth sailing” part. This card is really cool. I have not tried this technique yet – looks a bit imtimidating to me. Love all the details esp the texture!

I am sure the tremendous trio are glad you stayed home with them. Gives Kim some quality time with Brady too. There will be plenty of visits – Columbia is not that far away for you. We are wishing him well in his new endeavor.

  39. Great take on the Triple Stamping Technique Ann. I love this stamp set for masculine cards. You have a great attitude with respect to Brady starting his new adventure away from home. It’s hard but we always want the best for our children. Take care and have a great day.

  40. Just got home from a wonderful vacation traveling TX, OK, AR and MO. It was fun catching up with family after several decades. It is great being back home and catching up with my favorite stampers. This is such a great card and I can’t wait to try this technique. Best wishes to your son as he starts his new adventure. D

  41. You do ‘elegant masculine’ so well, Ann! The triple time technique looks awesome with this nautical set.

  42. Super masculine card! Love the layers and colors! Fab ship and compass images, too! Brady will love this card! I went through the college experience with my son a few years ago. It’s an adjustment, but it’s for the best to let them spread their wings and fly. Take care, hugs!

  43. This technique works great for a guy card! This turned out great! I just finished cutting paper to make 24 triple layered cards for tomorrow’s get together and I am over triple layering I can tell you that!

  44. Ooooh! What an AWESOME set for triple time stamping! I just LOVE IT!!!

  45. What a great idea to put this together in layers! This works very well as a masculine card. I understand the emptiness you are feeling with your son going away. I’ve been through that with both of my boys and I can say that it gets better. Now both are in their thirties and we have grandsons. Life moves on. You might have a heavy heart now, but the best is yet to come. {{HUG}}

  46. AWESOME–this is just exquisite.I will have to try this technique again.

  47. As usual, you hit this card and technique out of the ballpark! Hope your four-legged kids help fill the empty nest…a bittersweet time in a Mom’s journey.

  48. Oh Ms Ann love it , your so inspiring !!! I love EVERY THING YOU MAKE !!!!
    Tfs
    Hugs frenchie ,

  49. Ann. this is gorgeous! I’ve been seeing cards with this technique but haven’t had the chance to try it yet. You’ve done a fantastic job with it! I love how you embossed all the layers and layered the ribbon! Best wishes to Brady on his new adventure, I’m sorry you couldn’t accompany him to his new digs but glad you got to spend some quality mother-son time before he left!

  50. It happened again. I hit the wrong key on my laptop and it posted my note before I was finished. Anonymous is me! Good luck to Brady. I hope they are taking pictures of his new apt for you!

  51. This is one of my favorite techniques! Love it with Open Sea.
This month we are featuring masculine cards in my stack class so I just may case this one.

  52. Beautiful card, Ann! I love everything about it – especially the addition of the embossing folder to add MORE technique and, of course, the ribbon slide. Love this one!

  53. Ann ~ This is a perfect masculine card. Love all the details and the triple layering technique is so much fun to do. I really like how you layered the ribbons.
Congrats to Brady as he sets off on another adventure. Hope it is ‘smooth sailing’ for him!

  54. Ann, this is a brilliant masculine card. The embossing over the images adds that extra little something, and the ribbon grounds the project beautifully.

  55. Absolutely stunning! I am in love with this technique and have made a few – each one better than the last, but not nearly as nice as this. Your attention to detail, like that ribbon slide, and the tiny tags, is just amazing. Like the color combination too. Thanks for showing me what else I can do with this technique. Sorry bout Brady : (

  56. I think it works Great as a masculine card. It’s gorgeous.
When I first seen these triple layering cards, I fell in love with them and you done a great job putting it all together. Love the colors
