A Color Switch and Blog Candy

In yesterday’s post, I mentioned that I wanted to switch out the Lucky Limeade Chevron mat on my Paper Players’ card for a Pool Party mat.  Here is the before:

And here is the after:

But I will admit that I still was not satisfied.  So I carefully removed the stamped sentiment mat and switched out the Lucky Limeade stripes for Pool Party ones.

  1. Funny how the addition of one color can make such a dramatic difference in your card. I like both cards but for some reason my eye is drawn to the green background. But, I truly would be happy to find either one of these beauties in my mailbox. 🙂

  2. I Like them ALL! BUT – I think the last one with all pool party is my fav! Now that surprises me b/c I LOVE greens!!! go figure! Everything you do is great!!! Thanks for your inspiration! This would be a great idea to use for a Card Club …. ummmm ….

  3. I’m somewhat obsessed with green of almost any shade, so your original version is my preference, but I do like the 2nd alternate version. Yes, somewhat retro. Reminds me of my childhood bedroom colors from the 60’s. Fun! TFS!

  4. The first card is my favorite. Go green 🙂

  5. beautiful card – either way!

  6. Great cards – all of them but I do like the last one the best. Thanks for a chance to win the great blog candy and so glad it is calorie free!!!

  7. I like the pool party better. But honestly all your cards are gorgeous.
TFS and for th chance to win.

  8. I love the way the Pool Party makes the Calypso Coral pop! The third card is my choice. Great work!!

  9. I love the way the Pool Party makes the Calypso Coral pop! The third card is my choice. Great work!!

  10. They are all pretty, but my favorite is the lucky limeade. Give your fur babies a pat for me!

  11. My favorite is the Lucky Limeade but they are both beautiful. Didn’t think the LL & PP did much together but the Pool Party looked better when you changed both the chevron background and stripes. Perhaps I’m anal that way but I think your flowers really “pop” with the LL.

  12. I actually liked the middle one best. Sort of a nice mixture of all the different colors. But all of them do look great!

  13. Wow! That is such a surprising change, isn’t it? It had to grow on me, but now, I think I love it even more. As a child of the 60’s, it really does have that retro “feel” about it. 😉

  14. 78 ways to enjoy beauty with no calories! Wow! I like all 3 cards, but I think my favorite is the third one. I also really miss hearing about and seeing updates of the dogs. I have a Golden Retriever service dog and we watch your pictures and updates and really enjoy them. Take Care.

  15. I love both cards, but am amazed how just changing colors changes the while vibe of the card! I love the Pool Party!

  16. Colorado Crafter

I like the card with either all Limeade or all Pool Party better than the middle one with the mixture. As much as I like greens of all shades, for this one, my very favorite is the last one with all the Pool Party.

  17. Love the card(s) Ann. Great choice of colors and elements, but I think i like the 1st one best.
    ThANKS for sharing,
    Karen

  18. These are absolutely gorgeous and it’s amazing to see the difference that the colour change makes! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog 🙂

  19. Both cards are great. But I actually like the original better!

  20. Ann, both cards look wonderful. I love it with either color. The design you created is beautiful.

  21. Both of your cards are gorgeous but the one with green is the one I like best. Of course it is my favorite color 🙂

  22. Crap, I can’t totally decide but I think I really like the original version the best. Then, I thought the last card was my 2nd choice but then I looked at the stripes and still like the green. Maybe I had better just stick with the first original card and be done with my choice before I go crazy!

  23. I really like your card and agree the change of pool party for the chevrons is a great improvement. It was Toooo green before. But I like the Limeade DSP stripes better.

  24. I really like your card and agree the change of pool party for the chevrons is a great improvement. It was Toooo green before. But I like the Limeade DSP stripes better.

  25. I think it’s great to experiment with cards you’ve already completed. I would say I really love Pool Party, it’s one of my favorite colors… but I like your original card best. It would be fun to see/make a different kind of card with Pool Party, Calypso Coral and Daffodil Delight 🙂 Thanks again for the chance to win some yummy blog candy!

  26. Awesome cards as usual, but I have to admit I like the Lucky limeade, but I love the retro version in all Pool Party the best. It puts a smile on my face, it reminds me of my mom. Thanks Ann

  27. Switching to the Pool Party striped paper made a big difference in the look of the card. It is a fun color combo.

  28. I will vote on the 3rd card. In the first one, the colors are a little overpowering. In the second card, there are too many colors competing with each other, but the third card is just right, and the Pool Party cools down the vivid yellows and oranges. Thanks for showing a contrast.

  29. This card caught my eye the first time you made it. It is just lovely, and I have been practicing the new (to me) technique of double stamping…Gotta master that one. For me I still like the original colors. The white touches on the flowers are so intriguing. Just amazing stamping!

  30. Green is my favorite color, so I go with the original. It’s a beautiful card regardless of the colors.

  31. Liking the Chevron EF the more I see cards using it. Beautiful card.

  32. Wow, I really like both of the cards. Beautiful happy colours! I would be over the moon to recieve either of these cards as they are such a work of love! Thanks for sharing all that you do!

  33. While I like both cards, I REALLY like the first one with Lucky Limeade BEST!! I do love green, but I also think it just flows better with the Lucky Limeade. XO

I think all the cards are pretty, but I do really like the Pool Party card the best. The little changes made all the cards look so different. debbieanng@yahoo.com

  35. I love the card with the pool party also. It does have a retro feel. Pool Party & Calypso Coral are 2 of my favorite colors together. Not sure which one I like best. They’re both very pretty.

  36. Ann you never cease to amaze. I like them both, but must admit I would not have thought to add the pool party… how cool is that.
I DO feel it gives a retro feel, but I think that’s because in the 60’s there was that turquiose, yellow thing going on in our kitchen! Hugs.

  37. Pool Party is such a wonderful shade of blue that it is another one of my favorite colors. I think your roses pop more against the blue shade. All 3 cards are stunning and sure to please the recipient. It is a great design. D

  38. Very pretty card! I agree, it has a very retro feel, something about those flowers! Love it!

  39. What a difference changing the background color makes! It got brighter and brighter and does have a bit of a retro feel.

  40. Both cards are pretty, but I like the last card with Pool Party best. Thanks for sharing and thanks for the chance to win your awesome blog candy.

  41. I really like the last card with pool party the best. It is amazing how just a little change can make the card look so different. It is a beautiful card.

  42. I was sure I was going to prefer the Pool Party to the Lucky Limeade, but now am not sure! I really like both cards. I’d go with what Gale said and use the recipient’s personality in deciding which color to go with. Also, agree that the middle card with the mix of colors is not as dynamic as the others. But you have created some really, really great cards!!

  43. Beautiful cards, I like them all!

  45. I think the Lucky Limeade card is an in your face type of card. The Pool Party is more serene and relaxing. I would use the recipent’s personality in deciding which one to send. I like them both, but not the middle one with the mixture of colors. Thanks for the opportunity to win and thanks for your wonderful cards!

  46. Both are amazing! I like Lucky Limeaide a little more as it is so bright and pops the coral and yellow more! 🙂

  47. Both are amazing! I like Lucky Limeaide a little more as it is so bright and pops the coral and yellow more! 🙂

  48. Amazing what changing colors around does! It is fun to see – I am a Pool Party fan – with a splash of Limeade 🙂

  49. They’re BOTH gorgeous (DUH!), but I do prefer the Pool Party one best!

  50. I Love the pool party one but thing the lucky limeade is beautiful…something about green…just makes it all pop. And the pearls…what a surprise…not! Just pretty.

  51. Wow, what a difference color can make. The third card all with Pool Party is softer on the eyes and doesn’t pop as much as the 2nd card with both Pool Party and Lucky Limeade. So can’t say which one I like best since they feed different emotions. 🙂

  52. Amazing what the change made, and the color swap really popped the colors in the card. Lucky Limade is one of my favorite colors, but Pool Party really makes the card look beautiful. Awesome card!

  53. GORGEOUS! Beautiful colors. Love it. It is hard to choose bit I LOVE pool party so I guess I would choose the green one but I also LOVE this one. You make this too hard, lol.
Blessings to you and the furry family members.

  54. What a change the blue makes. I think I like it the best….but then shades of blue have always been my favorite.

  55. My vote is for the last version based on the online views, but in person I might change my mind. Your creations on your blog have inspired me to make more elegant cards. Thank you for sharing your beautiful inspirations! I always look forward to your posts!

  56. They all look so different. Amazing how just a change or two can make such a difference. Not sure which one I like best.

  57. I didn’t care for the card when it had all that green in it; it looked old fashioned, so, yes, pool party definitely! Thanks for the chance to win some yummy blog candy, too!

  58. I like both of the revised versions. The addition of Pool Party gives it less of an “in your face” vibe that all of the Lucky Limeade can sometimes do. Don’t get me wrong…I love Lucky Limeade and use it a lot. But in this instance, I really like the cooler addition of Pool Party. But, Ann, I love all of your creations!!

  59. I think I like the lucky limeaid (green) background the best. The pool party isn’t bad and I would have loved it if I had not seen it in the green first, lol. I love how the green pops the flower. either way though, this card is fabulous!

  60. They are all beautiful but when you put them side by side, I like the pool party background with the lucky limeade sentiment panel the best. Thanks for sharing!

  61. It’s amazing how different the look is with a color change, but I have to say that I like the lucky limeade.
Thanks for sharing & for a chance to win some “calorie free” blog candy!

  62. Mary Frances Adams

I like all of the cards, but the pool party combo is my favorite…I like the brightness for summer…looks cool and refreshing! Your cards are always just beautiful…thanks for the inspiration!

  63. Maybe it’s just my love of all things green, but I prefer the original. I do love seeing the different versions. Great post!

  64. I love the pool party chevron and stripes! It looks fantastic. Pool party is one of my new favorites. It coordinates so wel with so many of our colors. TFS!

  65. Hi Ann! Gosh, this is hard. I like all three. I think the middle one with the contrast of blue and green makes the center panel pop though. They are all elegant and would make the recipent very happy to receive one. I loved this comparision Ann. Stretched my mind this morning before the coffee kicked in. lol!

  66. This comment has been removed by the author.

  67. I guess the saying “to each his own” holds true – you’ve already gotten votes for all three versions! 🙂 I like the changes you made, adding pool party to both places. The softer background color allows my eye to focus on the flowers and sentiment, rather than being overwhelmed by color. And not that it changed on the new card, but I love the stamped-off flower behind the sentiment! TFS! 🙂

  68. I love how different all three cards are, they are all beautiful! My favorite is still the first one though, there’s just something about all the Lucky Limeade that is so striking!

  69. I actually like the middle version best. That pop of Limeade really does it for me!

  70. As much as I love green and don’t love blue, I must say, the second and third tries ARE better than the first – imagine that. No wonder my grandmother always said to try it, you might like it. I like 2 and 3 equally, I think. There is some retro there for me because the colors remind me of Howard Johnsons.

  71. Ann, WOW! All of the cards are gorgeous and love how you demonstrated the color change. It does change the card look with the Pool Party and hard to say which one I like more but would say the first one and second card for the contrast with Pool Party for the Chevrons.

  72. I have to go with the Lucky Limeade card this time. Both are beautiful and would truly be a gift for anyone receiving them. Love your blog and your work is always the best.

  73. It is amazing in changing paper of each card made a total different effect. I really like the last one the best. But all of the cards are beautiful. It would be great to receive any one of them. Thanks for sharing with us.

  74. I’m so happy I still have a chance to win some Blog Candy! I missed out on Saturday’s post. Congratulations on your trip! 🙂

I love your first card but I also love your third card with the Pool Party Chevron and Pool Party Stripes!! If I really had to choose one, I’d have to stick with the first one! As usual, GREAT job Ann!

  75. I like the softness and contrast of Pool Party, although the Limeaid was nicely matching.

  76. WOW Ann! Your cards are gorgeous. I love all of the cards and I think anyone receiving them would be delighted. I enjoyed looking at all three to see how the colors change the mood of the card. I’m voting for pool party and the retro feel.

  77. I like how you changed this up to use the Pool Party for the Chevrons and the mat. This allows me to focus more on the floral images and the sentiment. I agree that this looks a little bit retro. It’s a great card!

  78. they are both beautiful but I think I’m with you, if I had to choose only one then it would be the pool party version. I wonder if the green is just a little too strong and maybe certainly celery might work?

  79. All of them are gorgeous but I’ve always been a big fan of Pool Party! I have to say that is my favorite!

  80. Of all three, I like the last one the best. The Pool Party gives the other colors a nice contrast. But you could give any of them and the recipient would enjoy it. I love your blog.

  81. WOW! I really like both of them. It makes me want that stamp set, some sets i just look at and think NO, not for me, but then someone makes it up into lovely cards, or maybe it’s the color scheme they choose, they makes it say yes, I gotta have that set. Thanks for sharing. Both are beautiful cards.

  82. I really like the card with the Lucky Limeade! There is just something about it that draws me to that one over the Pool Party.

  83. I think all your cards are lovely, but I must admit I like your first revision the most. I feel that the green combined with the Pool Party makes a striking contrast.

  84. It is amazing how changing a color makes such a difference. I have to say I like the Lucky Limeade the best. Both are beautiful cards though.

  85. Although you prefer the Pool Party card, I prefer the Lucky Limeade card because it picks up the color in the leaves. Perhaps I am not as adventurous when it comes to the use of a variety of colors! Your flowers are gorgeous…I can see them on a background of Daffodil Delight, too.
Thanks for offering such slimming blog candy!

  86. I think they are both lovely! Amazing what effect a color change can have! I think I prefer the Lucky Limeade but I can’t say why…

  87. I agree that that the lucky limeade card works better. I love how you stamped the flowers and the cut with the die. I need to try that this week! Hope your enjoying your summer.

  88. I like the Pool Party for the chevrons but think the Lucky Limeade is better for the stripes. I like the two tone contrast. Interesting how just those changes make such a difference!

  89. The color change makes the card look totally different. I love the color Pool Party. It is one of my favorite colors. I seem to like the green card better…kinda funny isn’t it,since I love Pool Party.

  90. I really think both cards look great but must say, I really do like what you had done in changing color of your card. The colors go so well together. Sure did make a big difference.
    ColleenB.
