Freshly Made Sketches has a fabulous sketch this week which is just perfect for several masculine thank-you cards that I need to have completed by this weekend. Because of the time constraint, this was also the perfect scenario for another episode of “From Me to You”, where I design a card which can be completed in less than forty-five minutes! Today’s prototype was completed in thirty-two minutes. I am confident that I will be able to mass produce several more in less time than that, since it is the design process which takes me so much time. As with all “From Me to You” posts, I will provide you with the step-by-step instructions. I hope you enjoy “You’re My Type, Thank You”!
Finished dimensions: 5-1/2″ wide by 4-1/4″ long.
- Cut one 5-1/8″ wide and 3-7/8″ long piece of First Edition Specialty Designer Series Paper and mat onto Basic Black card stock, leaving a 1/16″ border all the way around. Adhere this to a card base created from Naturals Ivory card stock.
- Ink the Typewriter from Just My Type with Jet Black StazOn and stamp onto a 2-5/8″ wide by 3″ piece of Very Vanilla card stock. Mat this onto Basic Black card stock, leaving a 1/16″ border on all four sides.
- Ink the Typewriter again, and stamp onto a snippet of First Edition DSP. Paper snip out the sheet of paper section, and adhere onto the first stamped image.
- Run a strip of Cherry Cobbler card stock through the Big Shot with the Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. Cut it into a 5-1/8″ x 1-1/4″ strip. Adhere to the card.
- Using the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch, punch a 5-1/8″ strip from Basic Black card stock. Adhere to the Cherry Cobbler embossed piece.
- Ink the “thank you” stamp from You’re My Type with Cherry Cobbler and stamp a strip of “thank yous” onto Naturals Ivory card stock. Cut to 5-1/8″ long by 1/4″ wide. Adhere to the Basic Black scalloped ribbon border.
- As your final step, adhere the Typewriter mat using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
I did keep today’s card quick and easy! And did you notice…no pearls were used in the making of this card! I would have loved to add some distressing, but in keeping with the spirit of the Freshly Made Sketches challenge, I kept it fresh and “clean”! These “Thank You” cards will be heading off to school with Brady to give to the professors who wrote letters of recommendation for him to submit with his graduate school applications. And speaking of Brady…he received an Honorable Mention in last weekend’s competition. He played beautifully, and I am so happy that I was able to hear him compete…even if it did set me behind three days. But you know what…I would not trade that experience for anything! He is now waiting to hear if he advanced in the National Trumpet Competition.
Let me know what you thought of today’s “From Me to You” card in your comment today. And of course, I am always available to answer any questions about the cards that I make and the techniques that I use. I am only an email away! Until next time…
(And thank all of you who emailed me the past two days, checking to see if I was OK. That was so sweet of you, and I truly appreciate it! Of course, the truth is I am fine. I am just trying to get caught up after my trip to Michigan, and trying to get my design team cards and blog posts written before I leave for Leadership next week. Yikes! Will I get everything done???)
Ann, I love this card and thank you for the great step by step tutorial. I’m sure you are having a blast at leadership

Great man-card Ann! And we all know how difficult those can be. I really like how you paper pieced the paper that is in the typewriter. It looks so authentic! Thanks for playing along with us this week at Freshly Made Sketches!
I like this! This would be perfect for a guy, but I think it would also be perfect for some English teacher friends of mine.
Great idea using newsprint type upon newsprint background! Really great look!
Firstly, thank you for sharing the video of Brody’s Performance of Jolivet’s Cocertino. He is a brilliant musicain. My goodness I had no idea that your son was blessed with that much talent. He wil go far with his musical career for sure. Oh and what a handsome looking young man he is. The ladies must be calling him often. 🙂 You must be so very proud of him Ann. I know that I would be.
Onto your fantastic masculine card. I have looked at this stamp set and for the life of me could not figure out what I would do with it. It is perfect for creating men and women cards. I love that you paper pieced the sheet of paper in the typewriter. Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent with us as well. 🙂

Ann, I noticed immediately that there were no pearls on this! Love the textiness of it though. And congrats to Brady!
Hi Ann! Yes, it’s me again. I’m sorry, I totally forgot to tell you how proud of Brady you must be. What an accomplishment! It is so cool that you travel to hear him play. That must mean the world to him too. Best of luck to him as he continues on. Very exciting! Keep us posted please on the next round.
Ann, this is a perfect masculine card. I love the paper piecing on the typewriter.
Love this masculine card, Ann! It is perfect in everyday! Kathy in AZ
Awesome, Ann! Love the paper in the typewriter!
Would you believe I ordered the typewriter without the DSP??? I have to get it as it is so appropriate. I really like the “clean look” of your card. Thanks!
Diane G.
Here I was thinking that I didn’t need this set. The paper in the typewriter really is brilliant! So glad you joined us this week at Freshly Made Sketches!
What a great masculine card! I actually learned how to type on a typewriter similar to this – so that tells you how old I am! :)))))
Woof, wobbly woof (went to have my teeth cleaned and am still a bit wobbly from anesthetic!) Hey you two puppies – do have enough to eat? Sometimes, like yesterday – they were starving me to death and then took me away to see a NEW doctor I didn’t know and then when I came home, not much food! By the way, I didn’t bite the new doctor. Brody – she’s kinda cute! Muffy – you and I need to talk!!!!!!!
Another duh moment, I was wondering how you did the piece coming out of the typewriter! The colors are really great too. No pearls, oh my, what will the world come to? Anyway, love the card and that texture really kicks it up a notch! Great job!
Speaking of great job, way to go Brady! I am so glad you were able to hear him play.
Of course, now I have to get this set and DP to see just how many hours it takes me to make it! Thirty-two minutes – yeah, sure! I wonder if the typewriter is the same size as the one in the Punny set – I bet this one is bigger. I think I could have a lot of fun with this. I did use it for a swap once with “you are my type” on the inside.
Chris R. from Iowa
Very clever with the newspaper print coming out of the typewriter–love it! Congrats on going to leadership! Hope you can enjoy some warmer weather. It is blowing snow here and only 23–lower with that wind chill factor. Dar
What a fun card. Love how you used the DSP.
Congrats to Brady and best of luck on his next level of recognition.
Fabulous masculine card, what a great idea to paper piece.
Awesome card Ann. I love the colors of the red, black and white. I make more of those colors then anything, of which I need to really get away from and move onto other colors as well.
Congratulations Brady on yuor Honorable Mention
ColleenB.
Ann, love your card and your treatment of the the newsprint in the typewriter. I am glad I’m not the only one who takes a long time to make a card lol.
I have missed you, but your time away was well spent. Your fans will always wait on you to return when you can. I like this design and card. And, as always, continued good luck to Brady.
Can’t wait to see you Roomie! Love the dsp paper in the typewriter – clever touch! Give yourself a break – do you really need to do it all???
Great paper for paper piecing on the typewriter! Love the card!

Canada canada I see Canada!!!! in that typewriter…and for what it is worth…I liked my selectric MUCH better than computers! haha. Ann this is an AMAZING card! I absolutely love it. Everything about it. When I opened it, it screamed YES! I can see it going to anyone, yes a man, but to anyone – someone who works in an office, steno pool etc. and that they would love it – to a writer etc. Great job. 35 min????? omgosh you ARE amazing. p.s. haven’t heard from you – are you ok? love and a hug for the New Year. Samara
Genius move putting the piece of typed paper “in” the typewriter!~ And Congrats to Brody – so exciting! See you soon 🙂

Your card is refreshing. Love the newspaper print!
Yay Brady!!! We sure was thinking of all of you. I couldn’t stand it waiting to hear.I knew you were busy so I didn’t write you. I know you have had a plate full lately.
What, no pearls, bling or spritzing??? This is a beautiful card Anne. It’s clean and simple but elegant at the same time.
Glad everything is okay. I was a little worried about Brody when I didn’t see a post from you for a couple of days.
Congratulations to Brady! Glad you were able to be there. Great card. I didn’t buy this set. Maybe I will have to. I learned to type on a typewriter similar to this! Man that was a long time ago. Good luck on getting everything done before you leave for leadership!
LOVE it! The pieced first edition paper scrolling from the typewriter is genius and I love the repeated sentiment too. Kudos to Brady–woohoo–for a job well done. You must be one proud mama! 🙂
Ooooh! This is just ADORABLE!!! And if I hadn’t cut out 20 typewriters last week for a Leadership swap, I’d probably CASE it. Maybe later…
