A Cup of Thanks for the Pals

Welcome to first Pals Paper Arts challenge of 2012.  Before we get to the challenge, we would like to say good-by to two old friends, Debbie Pierce and Barbara Chatzkel, and say hello to three new members of the design team: Sandie Conner, Cindy Hall and Dawn Tidd.  When you visit the PPA blog, you will also notice some changes with our layout and that we will be going to two challenges a month.  Plus, we have extended our deadline for linking your project to one full week.  As always, we welcome all products and players!  We can’t wait to see what you have created! And now, let the challenge begin!

Are you feeling blue?  Does the post-holiday period have you singing the blues?  Or are there blue skies smilin’ at you?  Then you need to join the Pals at Pals Paper Arts in this week’s Color Challenge PPA126:  Baja Breeze, Not Quite Navy and Very Vanilla! As for me, there is nothing like a Cup of Thanks to start the New Year off right! Enjoy!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips:   Bling and Blue

The finished card measures 4-1/4″ wide x 5-1/2″ long.

  • Razzle Dazzle! Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter adds a touch of bling to the pretty pansies decorating the Tea Cup from the Tea Shoppe set.  I used a little Tombow Adhesive, which I painted on with a paintbrush, and then I sprinkled on the glitter, knocking off the excess.

  • Texture! After randomly stamping the Very Vanilla panel, it was zipped through the Big Shot with the Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  A Blender Pen, with Not Quite Navy and Always Artichoke inks,  was used to add a needed spot of color!

  • Snip a sentiment! After stamping a sentiment, add interest by snipping a “V” in one end…creating a banner effect!
  •  Lots of Layers!  The Dotted Oval pattern from the new Twitterpated Designer Series Paper coordinates perfectly with Baja Breeze Stripes and Not Quite Navy Dots from the Patterns Designer Series Paper Stacks! Coordination…that’s the beauty of  Stampin’ Up!

Want to learn more about the method behind the madness?  Click on this “Down Home with Ann Schach” video, where I explain the thought process behind the design.  It is not a tutorial, nor is it a glossy production.  It is me doing what I love best…talking!  In case you were wondering about the absence of videos, I was needing a tripod, which arrived this Christmas courtesy of the Twins!  I promise, the quality will get better.  Practice makes perfect!

Won’t you please leave me a comment and let me know what you think of today’s card?  Your comments are important to me, and I do read each and every one.  And remember, if you ever have a question about the cards that I create or the techniques that I use, I am only an email away.  Until next time…

Brody Update:  The word of the day is benign!  Brody wants to thank everyone for the kind thoughts and prayers!  Now let’s hope that this is the end of those pesky Boxer Bumps!

    1. OH. MY. GOSH. HOW did I miss this card? I just love, love, LOVE it!!! And I think…if I pre-cut the teacup, my ladies WON’T freak out and we can do it for our “Just the Girls” class in April.

      THANK YOU!!!

    2. First of all, I need to run back and take a look at this news about Brody! OMGosh! I’m glad it turned out alright, but still, I’m such a bad blogging friend for not getting here sooner! Secondly, the card is gorgeous and I loved the video you did. Finally, speaking of the video, your nails look gorgeous! Hugs, Curt

    3. Beautiful card! Love that stamp set!
I love blues and greens best, myself. also anxious to see how you finish the other card. I really like the doily die on it. Sure it will be a winner too. Glad to hear the good news about Brady.

    4. Hooray for the word of the day!! I am so relieved to hear that. 🙂

Ann, what I love about your projects is that you place many details in a spot where I would probably stop at one. For example, you stamp, color, dry emboss, then glitter. I’d probably have stopped at stamping! But I love that you take the time to create ‘depth’ to your projects. Always beautiful!

    5. Hi Ann! I want to thank you for your video. It was very informative and fun to hear your thoughts through the creative process of your final and lovely result, and the one that didn’t make it.

I really love your final touches with the ribbon rosette and the sentiment flag (I use those often as well).

I think my favorite thing is the background you created behind the tea cup, especially with lattice square embossing. Really added so much to the final overall image. The entire card is so very lovely.

    6. Great job with the blues Ann, this card is so happy and not blue! This is one of my new favorite stamp sets! Congrats on the doggy news!

    7. Terrific card!!!! Love how you used this set – it’s one of my new favorites!

I got in your Christmas card today – thank you soooo much! Now I have one of your works of art! Wooo Hooo!

YAY for Brody!!!! Really great news!

    8. WOW! That’s it!!!!!!

Mushy kisses for Brody from Miss Daisy and a happy wagging tale to Muffy!

    9. Well you hit this color challenge out of the park, over the parking lot, across the freeway, and into the river, Ann! GORGEOUS! XOXO

    10. Beautiful card, as usual! Love the color comb0! Fantastic news about Brody!

    11. Ann, your layout works so well with the ‘blues’. Every time I look, I see more intricate detail. It is just gorgeous.
Your video was very inspiring. I will be interested to see what you end up doing with your ‘first attempt’. I could see the plate [doily] and shelf and can easily imagine the cup sitting there in all its glory.
Thank you so much for your continual inspiration.

    12. First things first – wonderful news about Brody. I’m so happy for all of you; what a great start to the new year.

Your card is beautiful. That’s a lot of blue but you married them together perfectly. Thanks for the video showing your thought process. Looking forward to some more.

    13. Ann, I couldn’t imagine what you were going to do with this card
      yesterday. It really is beautiful.
So glad to hear Brody’s lump is benign…what a blessing for the new year!
      Diane G.

    14. What a beautiful card, Ann! Love the colors and all the techniques that you used. Thanx also for the video. Kathy in AZ

    15. Great news about Brody! So glad for you all. Jess

    16. This is beautiful! I love how much detail all of your cards have.

    17. First of all, I’m so happy about Brody’s update. I’m sure you are more than relieved. Second, I like your card a lot, but I also really like the square-shpaed “rough draft” that you showed in your video. I look forward to seeing that completed at some point.

    18. OOOpppss (fat fingers) I meant to say I CAN’T wait to see your next video!
      Hugs

    19. Ann this is gorgeous! It just BLUE me away! Wow. I LOVE the color combo (blues are hard for me too) and the tea cup is .. so pretty. Love your random bling on the pansy petals and embossed BG is lovely. My favorite is that seam binding rosette…love it.

Well I have to say I LOVED your video! It was soooooooooo nice to know your thought process to create this beauty. I was amazed at how you changed your mind a few times before coming to a permanent choice. It really helps me know it’s part of the process. I just assumed that ‘fantastic’ designers such as yourself, sit down and make something the fantastic first time, and move on to the next. Let me say I have MANY carcuses on my craft table! I just LOVE your Down Home with Ann… can wait to watch the next one.

Lastly … such great news about Brody..
      Hugs

    20. It seems to me you have no trouble at all working with blues! Beautiful card! Great news about Brody too! Thanks for letting us know!

    21. Love the card and video. The Dazzling Diamonds and pearls are gorgeous on the teacup. Your seam binding rosettes always look so pretty, and this one especially so with the pearls and snip of ribbon. The Twins are so smart–they knew the perfect gift for their mom. So happy for Brody.

    22. I really like the card and think putting a teacup on the shelf would look lovely as well.

    23. Love your card, Ann! Wouldn’t it be tea-lightful to have a cup of tea together? Loved your video too, thanks for sharing the inside view. It’s comforting to know others have a “card parts” file. 🙂

Glad for the news about Brody!

    24. I really enjoy hearing you talk about the process. No one else has done that. The carcass card would be great with the 3 littler cups actually sitting up higher on the edge of the very vanilla “ledge” and the doily draped downward like they did to edge a shelf. Even making the shelf front narrower might give a different effect.

    25. What a fun video,I really liked how you explained all the details and your thought process in creating this card! As usual it is a stunning card!

    26. I am still giggling over the card carcas! I love the finished card esp the rosette with the pearls attached the banner that has just a touch of distressing! The card carcas though is precisely what I was thinking of trying to do but I didn’t have enough $$ to order the doily and the “table” part with all the other stuff I thought I had to have. But, when I sort of sketched it out, I thought the cup competed with the doily and I ended up liking the doily better than the cup! I knew you would add pearls to the flowers on the cup! Love the video though we could have used a little furry action in there esp for Brody wanting to tell us that it was benign! What gorgeous nails you have too! Thanks for sharing your creativi-tea with us! Oh, and I loved the vanilla and the blue pearls on the doily!

      Chris R. from Iowa

    27. I really enjoyed the video, hearing your voice and listening to your thought process. Blue is my favorite color; the card is fabulous. I also like the “discard” one as well. You know we are our own worst critics. The rosette is a wonderful embellishment that just brings life to the card. Dar

    28. There is nothing causing “the blues” by looking at your card — it is just gorgeous! Love the colors and the papers! As much as I love the holidays, I’m usually relieved when they are over. I do much better with normal routine…whatever that is. 🙂

    29. Serving up a cup of thanks with pearlicious style!!

    30. Wow, Ann, this is drop-dead gorgeous! Love the monochromatic scheme and the classy elegance. My favorite of your special touches is the stamped background behind the teacup.
Enjoyed the video too, I’m so glad I’m not the only one who used trail and error to get just the look I”m wanting.

    31. Ann, your card is so beautiful and I love the different blues together. I knew it, pearls just had to show up somewhere. I am happy to see that Brody’s lump is benign and hope there are no more.

    32. Ann, I am so pleased to hear Brody’s bump was benign! I can imagine your relief.

I love, love, love your cup of tea card… ditto on the contest… it is coming up soon and now you have a head start! 🙂

Great job on the video. Really liked that you shared your thought process for the card design. I am going to suggest watching it to my PPA accountability partner! BTW, I would love to peek at your card stash… bet there are some beautiful pieces in it!

    33. I am a blue person and, I love your card. Best of all is the video; it’s like visiting with you. And it helps so much to know how to create the card. I enjoyed hearing your voice. I hope you will do this a lot with your cards.

    34. Tea-rrific! I would enter it as well! And I watched your whole video while eating breakfast in my kitchen – just set the computer across from me 🙂 Great news on Brody!

    35. Gorgeous card and having the opportunity to crawl inside your head for a tour of your creating mind was something. The detail on your cards blows me away. Ditto what Mary said regarding a submission…..

This color combo is beautiful, so soft and pretty! And your card is absolutely gorgeous! I love all the little details! I wasn’t really crazy about this stamp set at first either but you have shown me once again that I really do “need” it!

    49. Gorgeous, Ann! What a fun color combination; I hope I can find time to play along.

I’m so glad to see the good news about Brody! YAY!

    50. Love this card is all I can say!! The colors are lovely and the flower! Wow!
In the fav box this one goes!
Give Brody a big hug from us over here! (Muffy too…we wouldn’t want her left out)

    51. Wow! Beautiful!
I must say that this set did not strike me as being my “cup of tea”, LOL, but now you have turned into a “must have”. You have that effect on me 🙂

    52. Wow, wow, wow! I thought you said you struggled with this one. The composition is perfection….just the right amount of glitz, and those layers! This card is precisely my cup of tea! Oh, and I love the little cascade of pearls on the posy. Just wonderful, Ann! And so happy to hear the good news about Brody….I wish we could stamp together for an afternoon. I’d make the tea. :o)
