It’s time to play with Pals Paper Arts! Today’s challenge is a Fashion Inspiration Challenge…Puttin’ on the Ritz! This is also our Blog Candy Blowout. One lucky participant in this week’s challenge will be showered with Mystery Blog Candy from all nine members of the PPA Design Team. To be eligible to win…you must play in this week’s challenge!
“Puttin’ on the Ritz” is a 1929 Irving Berlin song. The title was derived from an expression, inspired by the Ritz Hotel, meaning to dress very fashionably. Whenever I think of the phrase “puttin’ on the Ritz” I think of three things: the scene from the movie “Young Frankenstein”, where the “Monster” sings out “Puttin’ on da Riiiiitzzzz”; the dancing icon, Fred Astaire; and New Year’s Eve! These served as my inspiration. I wanted to re-create the glitz and glam of a formal New Year’s Eve ballroom, with men resplendent in ties and tails. So out came my stash of rhinestones, silver glimmer paper, and black and white card stock. Now you may be wondering about those lips. They represent the traditional New Year’s Eve midnight kiss! And now you know the method behind the madness!
The finished card measures 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″.
- Texture! I think Clean and Simple cards benefit from a healthy dose of texture! Textured Whisper White card stock serves as the card base, while textured Cherry Cobbler serves as matting! And if you look closely, you will see that the image mat has been passed through the Big Shot with the “Quilted” Perfect Details Texturz Plate. (Tip: To get a deeper embossing with a Texturz Plate, spritz the paper with a little water and emboss when damp!)
- Cheers! Sentiments take on an entirely different look when stamped onto textured card stock! The word “Cheers”, was selectively inked from the Delightful Dozen’s “Cheers (way to go)” stamp, using a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker. The result looks as if it were stamped on canvas!
- Bring on the Bling! Silver Glimmer Paper serves as a sparkling backdrop to the Cherry Cobbler embossed S.W.A.K. Lips!
- Yipes! Stripes! I resisted the temptation to bring out the Black Satin Ribbon, and opted to add strips of card stock for a more formal look.
- Rhinestones anyone? At every intersection of the Quilted Texturz pattern, a Basic Rhinestone was placed. Plus I colored rhinestones red with a permanent marker and placed one at each corner of a Frame It Ornate Frame. Indulgent…yes! But since this card is headed to a very special person, it was worth every single one!
Stamp Sets: S.W.A.K. (120861), Delightful Dozen (W 122650, C 122652), Frame It (W 122850, C 122852); Inks: VersaMark (102283), Jet Black StazOn (101406); Card Stock: Whisper White Textured (121078…Neutrals Collection, Textured), Whisper White Smooth (100730), Black (121045), Cherry Cobbler Textured (121076…Regals Collection, textured), Silver Glimmer (124005); Tools: Big Shot (113439), Perfect Details Texturz Plate (115962), Heat Tool (100005), Large Oval Punch (119855); Glitz and Glam: Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Emboss Powder (122949), Basic Rhinestones (119247); Other: Red Permanent Marker
This is totally cool Ann! I love this card and the “New Years Kiss” you have symbolized here! Wish my New Years Eve night could be this exciting!! Awesome!

wow Ann, this is gorgeous. Love the details on this card.
It really is puttin on the Ritz! Lots of bling here! Just tons of rhinestones. You did a super job on this one!
This is such a sweet and sassy card! Love all the glitz…..you definitely had no problem with hoarding like I do! LOL

Great card and done in my favorite colors.

How about “Ritzy Glitzy” for a term!?! I had to take a double take at this lip smacking great card! It is soooo fun! It just makes me smile looking at it! Love the stripes. I loved Young Frankenstein and have seen it several time. Maybe Mabeline or some lipstick company should sign you on for their ad compaign! That would keep you in pearls and rhinestones! Anyway, this is one fun card! You could use pink for the lips and pair it with black for Valentine’s Day to get more mileage out of the stamp! Thanks for a trip to the wild side of Ann! Talk about holding on for the ride – where else are you going to take us? Love it!!!!

I don’t know what to call it, but I love it. The Black/White/Cherry Cobbler combo is so elegant. The glitz and bling are perfect for the theme, as are the stripes. But, those lips really seal the deal!
Oooh la la, just look at this SWAK-tastic beauty! That is some serious sparkle, too! Wowza! So elegant, too. You really know how to put on the Ritz. Now I have that song stuck in my head. Muah! 🙂
Have a great day!
So funny to see the SWAK stamp, I had to giggle. I received my pre-order today and was re-organizing my stamp sets on my shelves and came across this one and thought….okay, I have to remember to use this for Valentines! I love what you did with it, so adorable!
What a FUN card! Thanks for the video clip, too!!

Ann, this card certainly is not your vintage style but you still have the pearls. I have to admit that I am not a fan of those lips. I look forward to the next”Ann” card. Kathy in AZ
VERY classy young lady! We love Fred at our house!
Woowfie, woowfie – I could send this to Brody, right! I think the lips are wrong though! Oh well – I think I could do something with my teeth if I could get a hold of that card.
Thanks for blessing my day and making Miss Daisy happy. :))))))))
WOW! This is DEFINITELY outside your comfort zone, but I love it!! Great job with the bling!
I would go with “whimsical” because the lips are blingy. It’s adorable! I love it.
Well Ann, YOU sure know how to put on the RITZ !! BLING,BLING!!LOVE IT !!!!!!
Susan B.
this is a perfect card for a “puttin on the ritz” challenge-love the color combo and your textured bg and the rhinestones are such an elegant touch-the cs strips look great instead of ribbon -the lips-well what can I say but fabulous-this is really a great card Ann
Woq, I love this card!!! It’s gorgeous… I would call this card “Kiss Me”
Hugs,
Martha H.
SWAK!!! Love it – so glitzy and glam – and it made me smile! Love the stripes – such a great effect! And thanks for the video – just watched the whole thing! This one, Gene Singing in the Rain and Jimmy Cagney in Yankee Doodle Dandy are my 3 favorite dance routines from “long ago 🙂
OMGoodness, I love all of the rhinestones & those red lips. Perfect way to put on the ritz!
Hugs, M
It has an “Uptown Girl” look, doesn’t it? I especially like the frame with the kiss. So romantic! You did a great job.
Great card, Ann! What a way to end the year…this is my favorite card! Happy Holidays!
I have to agree with others who wrote that this is a Glitz & Glam style. This is such a fun card that is not over the top, just the right amount of blitz. The red lips are like the icing on the cake. Dar
Ann, this is a real fun card full of elegance. I love the red lips and of course the glitter really makes this card fit for New Years Eve.
GORGEOUS!!!!!
Love it – Love it – LOVE IT!! Crisp, clean and BLINGY!!! And those Kissy lips are just perfect for this card. Thanks for the smiles today, Ann. Great card.
What a fun card! Everything together makes such fun statement! After checking your Sneak Peak yesterday I couldn’t wait to see what the full card looked like and it’s delightful!
This is definitely “Puttin on the Ritz” card. I love all the glitz, bling and glamour. Actually, as soon as I saw the red lips, I pictured in my mind Marilyn Monroe, the sultriness (is that a word). Beautiful card!!
No, not your usual vintage, but I LOVE IT!!! I always like to see crafters trying new techniques. Maybe that’s because that’s what I like to do. Trying something new is FUN, and you never know what else you’re going to be good at!! To me this style would be, “Glitz & Glam”! It’s the first thing that popped into my head when I first saw your card! LOVE this card!!!!
Ooooh, love it, all the bling and the red, black & white, so pretty. The silver glimmer paper is perfect with these colors. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! You must keep SU hopping with Rhinestone and Pearl purchases!! Definitely a fun card!!
OMGosh, this is too cute and funny! I love the lips … made me laugh with your awesome creativity, Ann! Be sure to add rhinestones to your next SU order … wowza they look fabulous on your card!
Wow, I had to double check to see if I was really on YOUR blog! WOOHOO! This is one awesome card, I love what you’ve done!!!This is definitely glitzy and glamorous!
WOW and double WOW! This is stunning – to say the least. This card takes me right back to last weekend when my daughter performed several dances with her dance company with songs and outfits from the Marilyn Monroe/Ethel Merman era. The look is quite spendid and simply divine!
Just love it! You are so creative! Love the glam and glitz! Soooo pretty!
Wow, look at all those rhinestones! So many great details on this card. I love it!
As soon as I saw it on the PPA blog, I came right over. It brought a big smile to my face. I LOVE IT!!! How about “glitzy” style? Your interpretation is terrific. Young Frankenstein was my first thought when you started explaining; one of our favorites. Unexpected? Yes. Anne Schach? Definitely – creative, stylish, fabulous.
Oh yeah – definitely New Orleans – aren’t they the lips of one of the chickies who swings out over the street? I don’t use this word often but that card is FABULOUS!
WOW, you used lots of my favorite things for this terrific card…. rhinestones and silver glimmer paper. And don’t you love the black, white, red and silver color combo. Fabulous card!
How fun is this card?!? Yes, it is “blingy” but it is also a really clean layout. I really like that you didn’t use ribbon, but did the layered paper border instead…that was the right choice! And the black and white ironwork frame enhances, rather than competes with the glitter paper and those ruby red lips! Love all the texture in this card. Fun, fun, fun!
Ann, this is fantastic and shows your amazing versatility! I love the glitz and glamour of your card. Hope all is well with you and the family! Lexi sends her hellos to Brody and Muffy!
Well, Ann, it is definitely not your usual style in some ways. But your style does show through with the texture and bling. And while I am not really a fan of the S.W.A.K. stamp, it does work well on this card. I like it!
