Winter Post for The Paper Players

It’s Sunday, and time to play with The Paper Players.  This week Lesley has designed a fabulous sketch for you. Thinking that the Skaters from Winter Post in a Designer Frame would be a perfect choice for this layout, I armed myself with Cherry Cobbler, Early Espresso and Very Vanilla card stocks and matching inks.  After all, with such a trio of yummy colors, how could I go wrong! I hope you enjoy today’s card!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips:  Rich and Warm Cards

Finished Dimensions:  4-1/4″ wide x 5-1/2″ long

  • The Power of Texture!   The Trees image from Lovely As a Tree was inked with Early Espresso and stamped onto Very Vanilla card stock.  It is a lovely image indeed.  But in a matter of seconds, with just a few cranks of the Big Shot handle and the Square Lattice Textured Impression Embossing Folder, lovely becomes warm and rich. This is the power of texture!

  • The Poetry of Pearls! Custom tinted Basic Pearls draws the eye straight to the unique ribbon treatment.  The Cherry Cobbler color was achieved with red and brown permanent markers.

  • Mad for Plaid!  A tartan pattern from Frostwood Lodge anchors the image mat. Doesn’t plaid just exude warmth? It reminds me of my undergraduate days at Monmouth (IL) College…Home of the Fighting Scots!  And yes, we had pipers with kilts! I know there are those who will disagree…but to me, there is nothing more hauntingly beautiful than bagpipe music!
  • Fabulous Frames! Want to draw attention to your image?  What better way than to frame it! The Skaters from Winter Post were inked with Cherry Cobbler and stamped onto Very Vanilla card stock.  After a few spritzes with the Color Spritzer Tool and the addition of Dazzling Details, this portrait of wintery fun was framed in an Early Espresso frame made with the Designer Frames Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.

So what do you think of today’s card?  Won’t you please leave me a comment and let me know?  In hindsight, I would have heat embossed the Skaters with Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Emboss Powder…but hindsight is 20-20 as they say! And never forget…if you ever have any questions about the cards that I create or the techniques that I use, I am only an email away…

End Notes:   Crystal Effects and Classic Reinkers should work for custom coloring pearls…since the Crystal Effects works as a binding agent. The next time I custom color pearls, I will try it out.
And Brady wants me to thank everyone who watched his video and sent congratulations! To say he was thrilled and happy would be an understatement! If you missed it the first time, click HERE.

  5. This is truly gorgeous, Ann! I love how you paired the skating love-birds with that warm and woodsy DSP. But that ribbon treatment…*gasp*…dresses it all up beautifully. You need to write a book on all these awesome ways to use ribbon. You are so creative!

Guess who JUST opened the box containing this stamp set today? I did, I did! Two big boxes arrived from the Extravaganza sale! How did THAT happen? Haha! Thanks for the inspiration to ink it up. 🙂

  9. Ann I just LOVE winter post.. and you made it even better by giving me a few MORE tips… love the ‘touch’ of the plaid dsp. I have a terrible time using some of the dsp prints, but this is just a touch and I love it. The skaters ‘framed’ is another winner. I didn’t think you could give ‘another’ cool bow, but look at you go girl! Love the pearl ON the ribbon… so cool. Hugs.

I had the chance to listen to Brady and his performance. So, so beautiful! Such talent. There were some fingers flying from him and his pianist! Thanks for sharing. I’d love to hear some more someday!

  21. What a yummy card it is with the dessert colors (cherry cobbler with very vanillar ice cream and expresso for the beverage)! The details are amazing as usual. I just love the look of the houndstooth flannel. But, those trees make an amazing background and then textured to boot! Love the ribbon treatment and the tiny tags. Just too much fun! SU should have featured this card with the sale and I bet there would not be any of that set left! Amazing job as usual. Out of all the times I have been to Monmouth, I didn’t know that was their logo! Now I gotta look at that card again for the frame and other fun details I missed.
