Gratitude for the Pals…A Pearl Challenge

Happy Thanksgiving to those of you who celebrate this holiday! I hope that in addition to carving the turkey, you will be able to carve some time out of your busy holiday schedule to play along at Pals Paper Arts in our Clean and Simple Elements of Style:  Pearls Challenge! Oh my gosh…you read it correctly!  Pearls! Whether it’s a single pearl or an entire package, we encourage you to join us in this clean and simple challenge. And I will confess…I totally missed the “Clean and Simple” part until I had already completed the emboss resist technique.  So enjoy my “Distressed and Simple”, or DAS, card!

The Stampin’ Up! Design Tips:  Distressed and Simple

This card measures 5-1/4″ x 5-1/4″.

  • Nothing but net! The Netting background stamp was inked with Early Espresso Craft Ink and stamped onto Naturals Ivory card stock.  It was allowed to partially dry before overstamping with the Hello Doily background stamp, which had been inked with VersaMarkWhite Stampin’ Emboss Powder was applied over the doily image and the excess was removed, which left a light dusting on parts of the Netting image.  Heat embossing followed.

    • Emboss resist!  The image from Day of Gratitude was inked with VersaMark and stamped onto Naturals Ivory card stock.  It was then heat embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  Crumb Cake ink was applied with a Stamping Sponge.  The same technique was used with the Hello Doily background stamp.

    • Distress! The Seven Sided Tool from the Cutter Kit was used to distress the edges of the Doily image mat.  Crumb Cake ink was applied with a Sponge Dauber.

    • Flag the sentiment!  After inking it up with Early Espresso, the “Grateful” sentiment from the Always Thankful set was stamped onto Whisper White card stock.  The ends were snipped with Paper Snips, and the edges were distressed with Crumb Cake.  A few Crumb Cake Watermarks (French Foliage) and speckles made with the Color Spritzer Tool complete the look.

    • Scrunch! Crumb Cake Seam Binding was shirred and layered over Chocolate Chip Satin Ribbon for added interest.

    • Pearls for Pizzazz! A honey brown permanent marker was used to color Basic Pearls and add contrast!

I hope that you enjoyed today’s card.  Won’t you let me know in your comment today?  Your comments are very important to me, and I do read each and every one of them! And remember…if you ever have any questions about the cards that I create or the techniques that I use, I am only an email away! Until next time…

    2. I more then enjoyed looking at your photo Ann. I could not keep my eyes off of it. With out a doubt you are an artist when it comes to creating cards. Your monochromatic distressed, simple but very elegant card is stunning! It is easy to see thatyou put a lot of love into making this card. I do have a question for you. Omn the upper left hand side of your card you have layers of card-stock that is curled under.Did you seperate the card-stock or are they layers of card-stock or that you curled? Either way your card is gorgeous. 🙂

    26. Wow! I knew you would not disappoint with today’s reveal. I just got the netting background stamp and thanks to you – the grateful greetings. Woohoo! Now I have ther perfect inspiration. I am grateful for your inspiration each and every day.

    27. OK, now did you PAY them to have PEARLS for Pearly Ann? lol Ann, I continually say “this is my fav” but seriously now, THIS is my fav! I have written down every deet and off I go to order. I have a question tho. What is the silver “net” at the very background? I get the doily and the stamp but can’t figure out the net. Also you put in the deets a few word stamps (maybe) but only one word. Did I miss something…I WANT IT ALL!!!!!! This card is beyond outstanding. It is spectaculous. I love how you describe your cards, show the up close and I wish I was there as a fly on your shoulder asking you every single question saying “wait Ann but…” This is the ONLY way I am going to REALLY learn the Pearly Ann way, or become American. Hmmm. Could be worth it Just for this!!!! Divine Love…more Divine Love because Ann God sits right on top of this artistic creation!!!! (always does but this one caught me with “da shivers!!!!” Your friend, Samara

    33. The colored pearls are wonderful – and I am glad to see all of the spritzing and distressing as well because it just works perfectly!

    34. I missed the CAS part too, and I’m the featured artist!! LOL!! Beautiful, Ann. Pearls are definitely a crafter’s best friend!

    35. LOL, another “CAS-misser”! That’s me! Well, it’s worth the miss, because this is stunning! I love that Netting background….I have resisted it so far, but boy, is it pretty here. You enabler, you! The pearls are pearliffic, too! Love the color…a perfect Thanksgiving card! Have a happy!

    36. Oh. My. SQUEEEEEE! I just knew I would love it! This is just GORGEOUS!!!

What marker do you use to colour your pearls? I can’t seem to get them that deep red that you do.

Wishing you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving.

    37. This is absolutely gorgeous. Every single card you make is stunning. You take many of the same techniques: pearls, spritzer, ribbon, embossing, sponging, distressing, and that mighty special watermark and create a completely different gorgeous card every single time. My doily and netting stamps will be here Tuesday. I am very much looking forward to creating something similar. This is awesome!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. I am grateful for you along with so many other talented stampers who so unselfishly share what they love every day. You are a blessing in my days.
