It’s Sunday and time to play with The Paper Players! This week’s Theme Challenge, selected by the talented LeAnne Pugliese, is right up my alley: Music! According to LeAnne, your creation can be inspired by musical notes, a favorite song, or even a tune that gets stuck in your head…like the theme from The Brady Bunch! I had so many ideas, it was difficult to chose just one…but I decided to create a Christmas card. My son has called dibs on this one. It is earmarked for his trumpet professor!
This card measures 5-1/4″ x 5-1/4″.
- Black, White, and a touch of Gold! Color conveys so much feeling when it comes to design. For elegance, traditional black and white does the trick. For an extra “pop” of color, add a layer of Brushed Gold!
- Mute the Music! The Music Notes wheel was used to create the background layer. To keep the notes from competing with the focal image, two sheets of White Vellum paper were layered over the top!
- The heat is on! Mimic the look of expensive engraving by embossing! Simply ink the image with VersaMark, sprinkle with Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder, shake off the excess, and heat!
- Embellish with a bow! Create perfect bows every time with 5/8″ Satin Ribbon and the VIDEO found in THIS post!
- Finish with Pearls! A trio of Basic Pearls is the “pearl-fect” touch!
I hope you enjoyed today’s card, and I hope that Dr. Briney will, too! He has been Brady’s trumpet instructor since Brady was in sixth grade. After eleven years, they know each other well. After graduation this coming spring, Brady will certainly miss him!
Your comments are very important to me, and I do read each and every one of them. And remember, I LOVE answering your questions about the techniques that I use and the cards that I create. Never hesitate to email me! Until next time…

Ann – this is definitely a stunner of a card! So very elegant and I love the tip about two layers of vellum!
That’s a great card for a trumpet professor! I like the spare lines and monochromatic look. And the vellum!
How elegant and beautiful, Ann! I love the vellum background…gorgeous! XOXO
Oh wow, this is fabulous, Ann. I love how the vellum mutes the music in the background so that the singers are so sharp. Beautiful card.
It goes without saying, I LOVE everything you do, but this one is extra-special. I would BUY this card. Especially love the touch of gold. This scene reminds me of the Dickens Festivals in my little hometown of Holly, MI. TFS!
Ann I am sure Dr. Briney will love this! How wonderful that you are making a card for Brady to give to him. Eleven years…Omgosh! The card really is gorgeous. I particularly like the look of the vellum over the wheel of music. A really nice romantic french look. And it is true, it does look like engraving. You do a really good job with the descriptions.
Ann this is GORGEOUS! I LOVE how you muted the music notes with vellum. How stinkin’ clever you are! Very cool. The black/white with a touch of gold is FAB and those pearls are the icing on the cake. Love it! and I know your son will love this one for his teacher.
Hugs.
What a great design! Made me think of the movie “A Christmas Carol”.

Beautiful card Ann…love the velum and the embossed image. So elegant!
This is the epitomy of pure class and elegance! I personally don’t think it gets any better than black and white. While I have not experimented much with vellum – mostly do to lack of time – I absolutely need to break it out after seeing your amazine creation!
The simplicity, but brilliance of this card is lovely! Great job.
Marnie
Ann, What a lovely card. I can see why your son has called dibs on it. I just love the vellum layered over the notes. And that bow is just fantastic! The pearl jewels for the perfect finishing touch for this fabulous creation.
What a beautiful card…this one just might be one I’d do for my family Christmas cards! Understated but oh, so lovely. Thanks for sharing.

Ann, this is just gorgeous! What a clever idea to layer the vellum over the music notes. It gives such a nice soft look. The embossing was the perfect finishing touch.
Would love to know how you attached the vellum on this beautiful card. I don’t see any tell tale dots of adhesive or even anything like brads covering the adhesive. Did you by chance wrap it around the sides and attach it on the back? And two layers no less… Just wondered how you did this one.
Ann, this is so….CAS!!!! I love it!
I love it! That’s it…love it!
Perfect! Love the soft bg created with vellum and the black bow and pearls–so sophisticated! Thanks!
What a perfect card for Brady’s professor!! Love the vellum layers to create a soft background. I, too, would like to know how you layered the vellum, please. The black ribbon and pearls are the perfect finishing touch of elegance! Good job, Ann! Hugs, Pauline

Brady’s trumpet instructor will love and treasure this card.
The black and white is very elegant along with the gold and embossing. Love the idea of the vellum over the musical note paper.
Lovely, lovely card, Ann!
Love the elegance of this, Ann! I see why Brady dibbed this card quickly…perfect for his teacher and a real eye catcher!
So pretty! I love the richness of the black & white with a touch of gold. The vellum over the musical notes is a great idea to give it a bit of a softer tone. It also helps set off the musical centerpiece. The musical theme is such a fun idea.
Love it! All the perfect details! I, too, want to know about how you attached the vellum. A perfect card for Brady to give to his teacher/mentor. Stunning!!!!

Just lovely, Ann! I love the vellum; it gives such a soft feel to the card, and I love that you chose a mostly monochromatic color palette as well. VERY elegant! Thanks for making such a great card using my musical theme!
Very, very pretty. Great use of the vellum to tone down the card and give it such an old world feel to match the carolers. Dar
Beautiful!! Very Elegant! I love the vellum idea to make the focal image really stand out! Thanks for the idea!!
Wow what a stunner! Love the use of vellum, softens the music and really makes the main image pop. Very elegant, and makes me think of A Christmas Carol 🙂
Such a beautiful and elegant card, Ann. You are certainly the master of embellishment. Thanx for making my Sunday!

What a beautiful, elegant and classy card! Love the touch of gold and the vellum over the background is stunning! I’m also interested to know how you attached it withouth the adhesive showing.
Have a great Sunday!
Gorgeous, Ann! I love that you used the vellum to soften the background; such a good idea and adds so much richness to the card too! I can’t wait to hear all the answers to the vellum questions you’ve had (pretty please post on your blog); it would be nice to learn how to use it! I’m going to have to go watch that video again because that bow is spectacular!
Love that vellum overlay in the background – very nice effect! Perfect card for the professor!
This really is gorgeous and I like the tip about muting the background with vellum. 🙂
Thx for sharing the velumn tip.
This card is so elegant! I never think to use vellum because I’m not always sure how to attach it and also not crinkle it. How did you attach it?
Thank you for all your hard work to post the beautiful creations. It’s appreciated!
Have a great week!
The very first thing that came to mind was Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Funny when I saw the supply list … that’s the name of the stamp set! Love your card. It’s absolutely beautiful.
Such an elegant card Ann! The color combination is rich and the vellum overlay is gorgeous and oh-so-clever! Beautiful card!
I did not think that I liked this stamp, but now that I see what you have done…it is very pretty. Love the ribbon and of course, the pearls..you always manage to find a place for them.
Beautiful and elegant! Perfect card for Brady’s music teacher. I saw a couple of questions regarding attaching the vellum. I would be interested to know what you used also. Enjoy your Sunday.
Happy Sunday Ann! It’s raining here so I get to blog surf today! Another beauty and I’m positive your son’s professor will love it.
Love this card Ann! How nice of Brady to think of his teacher with such kindness.
Amzing he had the same teacher for so many years.
Totally agree; it’s a very beautiful and classy card.
Great design and layout.
I wondered also how you secured your vellum. Did you use a special type of glue that dries clear?
ColleenB.
Sooooo elegant!! Of course….it’s yours! I hope to play along this week too. My knee is going to hurt no matter what I do…might as well stamp, right?
This is so beautiful Ann! What a classy and elegant Christmas card. The embossed image really brings the musicians to the forefront and I love the vellum over the base images.
I am wondering if you could share the differences between vellum paper and card stock. Also, I understand there are issues with adhesives showing and wondered what you used on your card here. Thanks for sharing any pointers on this great product!
